<DIV> <DIV>I teach histrory in real life. The period that interests me most, both professionaly and privately, is post Roman Britain during the 5th through 11th centuries; (the Dark Ages).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I was looking at my maps of the dozens of successor kingdoms which sprang up between the end of Roman rule, and the establishment of the Anglo-Saxon Heptarchy.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>There was something familiar about the map.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'll let you decide. Just coincidence I am sure.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>__________________________________________________ ______________________________________</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG><U>First shot:</U></STRONG></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The United Kingdom and Ireland.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/image_view.vm?imageId=567747#" target=_blank><IMG alt="The UK and Ireland" src="http://eq2images.station.sony.com/000/001/093/162.JPG" border=0></A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>__________________________________________________ ____________________________________</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG><U>Second shot:</U></STRONG></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>England without Ireland, Scotland, or Wales.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/image_view.vm?imageId=567748#" target=_blank><IMG alt="Britain without Ireland Scotland and Wales." src="http://eq2images.station.sony.com/000/001/093/164.JPG" border=0></A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>__________________________________________________ ____________________________________</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG><U>Third Shot:</U></STRONG></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Rotated 90 degrees.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/image_view.vm?imageId=567858#" target=_blank><IMG alt="Britain rotated 90 degrees" src="http://eq2images.station.sony.com/000/001/093/783.JPG" border=0></A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>__________________________________________________ ____________________________________</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG><U>Fourth shot:</U></STRONG></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The Faydwer in silhouette form.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/image_view.vm?imageId=567859#" target=_blank><IMG alt="Faydwer in silhouette" src="http://eq2images.station.sony.com/000/001/093/785.JPG" border=0></A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>__________________________________________________ ____________________________________</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG><U>Fifth shot:</U></STRONG></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>A side by side camparison.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/image_view.vm?imageId=567860#" target=_blank><IMG alt="Britain compared with Faydwer" src="http://eq2images.station.sony.com/000/001/093/787.JPG" border=0></A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>__________________________________________________ ____________________________________</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Actually, having quite a bit of information on these various kingdoms and their rulers and geneologies, I have made up a fan-fiction background for the Faydwer that parallels the real life model of post-Roman Britain. Only the names have been changed. (ie: The Picts become the Dwarves, Dumnonia becomes the Gnomes, etc.)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I just found it interesting.</DIV></DIV> <P><SPAN class=time_text></SPAN> </P><p>Message Edited by Mary the Prophetess on <span class=date_text>05-19-2006</span> <span class=time_text>10:56 PM</span>

That is interesting. Wouldn't surprise me if it was on purpose, but less as an easter egg and more to produce a map that felt real.Wonder what other real-life landmasses are hidden in the game like that.<div></div>

<DIV>Wow...if that is a coincidence then it is a big one...I would think myself that it is more that someone at SOE had something to do with it looking that close. But either way great eye on catching it. :smileyvery-happy:</DIV>
<DIV>Ehh, it could also look like a subsection of the US, look at the South Eastern US from the edge of Louisiana, over to the east coast and up to South Carolina or so. Coincidence, I think so. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

<DIV>Oh, I totally agree. No doubt it might resemble any number of different locations, and I am sure it is merely coincidence. Even if it were not coincidence, it would have no special significance other than to go, Hmmm.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>__________________________________________________ ____________________________________</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG><U>One last shot</U></STRONG>:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/image_view.vm?imageId=567997#" target=_blank><IMG alt="England and Faydwer with cities" src="http://eq2images.station.sony.com/000/001/093/956.JPG" border=0></A></DIV>

<DIV>lol and ya know, that the gnomes, eldarr and dwarves all migrated to Faydwer <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />, so you kinda have to travel over an ocean to get there <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

I do believe that it was originally stated that the dwarves and gnomes were placed on Feydwere, but then again the subject was never really touched upon much.

<DIV>More than likely, it's simply how the human brain works. We're always looking for patterns...and because of this we're always finding them. I could post any random fantasy map, and within minutes, I could likely have rough approximation of a real world country or state which resembles that fantasy shape - especially if I'm also allowed to ignore items such as scale, physical geography, or orientation.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<P>I personally favor the 'use what you have' theory - if I have a map handy already, and it's about the right size and shape, I'll file the serial numbers off, as it were, and reuse it after disguising it slightly (perhaps by rotating it). That way I don't have to re-invent all kinds of boring things, like how far city X is from City Y, how large the land mass is, etc. etc. Call me lazy, but if it were me there would be no mere coincidence about reusing available maps, but there would also be no more depth to it than just that - no parallels between the people and events, etc. </P>
<DIV>hey if this is true i live at dragonscale hill :smileyvery-happy:</DIV>

The citation of the city locations certainly lends further credence to this being the "base" for the continent. Fascinating to read, very nice, OP!<div></div>
