<DIV>This thread is for suggestions for the use of lore, and simple ideas for new lore, rather than detailed discussions of what the existing lore is.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I thought long and hard where to put this thread, and this forum seems the best place for it, hope it fits <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV><p>Message Edited by tawek21 on <span class=date_text>05-14-2006</span> <span class=time_text>07:53 PM</span>

<DIV>SUGGESTION</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Items with related lore to educate new players about less common classes, and about some abilities.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Intention: make new players value the ability, and either want to start the class themselves, or recruit that class to their group.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Items would come from a non-repeatible quest, and would be no-trade.  If the quest were repeatible or tradeable, some players might use the item to replace the class, and make it less desirable for a group, which is the opposite of what is wanted.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Example items:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Incense of mesmerisation (2 charges):  casts a mesmerise spell for 20 seconds.  Same as normal spell, but with a very full explanation of its power, and what its limitations are, so the new player can understand without further explanation.</DIV> <DIV>Harp of the troubador: gives group +10% attack speed, +20 str/sta, +10 per tic power regen, +10 defense, +50-100 damage on 30% of hostile spells.  Duration 5 mins.  1 charge.</DIV> <DIV>Horn of the Hero: casts Call of the Hero.  1 charge.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The quest for each item would come with a story, which the player would have to understand in order to complete.  The story would recount the past heroic use of the item, and giving an indication of how useful it could be to a group, and how heroic its use could be.  The following is a possible example:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><EM>    The Cyclops led his fellows over the slumped body of Father Gerius, unconscious on the ground.  With a single blow it stunned Regner, then struck him thrice more.  Regner called out a terrible cry and fell dead beneath the monster's feet.  The heros frooze in horror.  With their champion dead and priest bleeding on the ground, their cause was lost.  And if they failed, who else could save the peaceful land of Fallowfields from fire and slaughter?<BR>    Then forth strode Stilleye.  He rose his staff, and met the monster full in its one terrible eye.  He spake three arcane words.  None knew their meaning, but the sound was as of sunlight on clear water on a summer's day.  He waved his hand, and a miriad of lights shone out, such that all hid their eyes for the brightness.  When they looked again, lo, the monsters stood transfixed.<BR>    "Touch them not, my friends," said Stilleye. "First you must recover our priest, and he bring our leader back from the netherworld.  Then I will release but one of these creatures at a time, and you shall cleanse the land of their presence.  For, I tell you, this day, Fallowfields shall not burn.  Not this day, and not soon."</EM></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>    Quest for mesmerisation item ends in a small instance.  It requires you to wake but one monster at a time.  If more than one are woken from sleep, then the party/player is ejected from the instance as unworthy.<BR></DIV>

<P>What always struck me is the extreme lack of lore about the classes. We have racial lore, city based lore, lore surrounding the heritage items, even lore about enemy monsters!</P> <P>But we hardly have any lore about warlocks, or inquisitors. I'd have to recommend some sort of profession lore quest. Learn more about your profession. Perhaps recieve a book you can place into your house, so that others might read about your profession. Attach profession based rewards to it.</P> <P>Also, continue to integrate professions into future lore about more general topics. I.E. This hero was also a coercer.</P>
