<DIV>Remember the Pain and Suffering mob that was hidden in zones in EQLive? Well, no one had a clue what it was for...but I did have a theory. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Sometimes, players/mobs would die from Pain and Suffering in EQLive. When players/mobs got close to death, they began to lose health, like a minor DoT...like bleeding. It was my theory that the developers didn't have a way to throw in a true DoT back in the day. Instead, when low on health, the Pain and Suffering mob would "teleport" to the player/mob and attack...so you'd see the message that Pain and Suffering tries to hit/hits Soandso. This invisible NPC acted as "bleeding". However, you never SAW the Pain and Suffering letters in its name when it happened, so I don't know. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>You could see Pain and Suffering's name if you discovered its hidden location. (lavastorm had one hiding in a lava pit). If it was killed, it dropped a few copper. So yeah, I never knew if I was right, but that was the best theory I could come up with on why Pain and Suffering existed as an NPC (although hard to find).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Did anyone ever find a purpose? Was it some code thing, or did it have some lore element?</DIV><p>Message Edited by RpTheHotrod on <span class=date_text>05-14-2006</span> <span class=time_text>12:17 PM</span>

<DIV>I've never heard of Pain and Suffering being a mob in EQlive. I have on a few occasions dodged attacks from it while near-death though.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I know for a fact that they are individual mobs in the Halls of Seeing though.</DIV><p>Message Edited by Cusashorn on <span class=date_text>05-14-2006</span> <span class=time_text>02:25 PM</span>

<DIV>Wow, that's awesome <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> I've never been there, yet. What does it look like?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>In EQLive, there were Pain and Suffering mobs hidden in hard to reach places. Some underwater, some in lava pits, some high on cliffs. You could track them. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>They'd be invisible except for the name.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.rpgexpert.com/739.html" target=_blank>http://www.rpgexpert.com/739.html</A></DIV> <P>Message Edited by RpTheHotrod on <SPAN class=date_text>05-14-2006</SPAN> <SPAN class=time_text>12:29 PM</SPAN></P><p>Message Edited by RpTheHotrod on <span class=date_text>05-14-2006</span> <span class=time_text>12:33 PM</span>

<DIV>Looks like Sanctum of the Scaleborn, only full of giant golems, air elementals, and rock statues.</DIV>

<DIV>Lets see.. I didn't get a close look at Pain, but Suffering was a giant Boarman like the ones you find in Runnyeye, only it was made of Stone. Pain was the same, but I didn't get a close look at it's model. I think it was a lizardman.</DIV>

<DIV>Ah. Pain and Suffering was a single mob in EQLive. Thought maybe they were connected maybe if it was Pain and Suffering again in EQ2...but they are just 2 mobs.</DIV>

<DIV>Yep, suffering is a giant stone boarman, and Pain is a giant stone lizardman. Interesting to note, however, that Lizardman Master Strike does not work on it... Golem Master Strike does.... and a Froglok in the zone (Tolapmuj, who was found in Old Sebilis in EQ1 I believe... though there it was spelled Tolapumj I think, so maybe not the same guy), requires that you kill both of them before he'll give you a powerful artifact that will help against Venekor (hits him for about 8%). How that connects, I have no clue :smileyvery-happy:</DIV>

<P>a frog named jumpalot, a town named sonyeq. the naming convention they are fond of does make me snicker. i always suspected pain and suffering to be some sort of mobs from the combat text but never actually found it. sounds alot like the mob used in daoc. if you somehow managed to get into the non pvp parts of each realm, you would be hacked to pieces by a mob you would never see. at least i dont ever recall seeing it. seemed like it roamed also since sometimes it would take longer than others for it to find you. it always won though =).</P> <P>i agree though. it was prob added as a work around for a bleed effect at the time and since it worked, they didnt bother replacing it.</P>
