<DIV>Brothers and Sisters of the Whistling Fist Clan, rejoice! Our brethren have returned, and no doubt they seek our help. Let us pray that all of us monks, be you Silent Fist, Ashen Order, or even Swifttail, that our legendary adornments of the Robe of the Lost Circle and the Robe of the Whistling Fist will be ours to aquire once again.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Let us also pray that the legendary Whistling Fists themselves are somewhere to be found!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Monks! Rejoice!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Bruisers: Get lost. Make sure that all Monk usable armor is MONK only, and make sure bruisers get nothing out of the deal.... ok ok.... You bunch of crybabies... The whole thing revolves around them. We deserve that much. We also deserve to see the monk only Whistling Fists, Robe of the Whistling Fist, and Robe of the Lost Circle put in as Heritage quests, but this is an Adventure Pack and HQ's aren't gonna happen....</DIV>

Hah! All I have to say is, Keep your long dead ancestors outta my way, or they'll meet the business end of my fist. Who said I wanted to wear a robe, anyway? On a more serious note, however, diversity would be sweet. Bruisers, in all honesty, shouldn't wear the same garments as monks :I. <div></div>

They don't deserve to use famous weapons and armor that only us monks could use over the past 1000 years. It's time they stopped living off hand-me-downs and go out and build thier own history.

<font color="#66ff00"><font size="2"><font face="Comic Sans MS"> The Shattering caused the loss of many techiques not only to the monks, such as the Iksar's Tail Rake which can be taught to other tailed races. Disarm, Void Dance and even learned techniques that produced temporary shadow images to confuse opponents. I've heard of stuff such as the more effective illusion spells for the Illusionist, the Eye of Zomm, Levitate <i>(Just means you have to add climbable surfaces to old world zones)</i> not to mention all of the rumors of a pseudo Monk class called the Beastlords. <i>(build as a monk with a pet with no FD/Windwalk and able to use spears)</i> but I digress, the Whistling Fist Order gives Monks of the Silent Fist Order, including those of Clan Swift Tail who have come over from Freeport, and the Ashen Order(NPC) a chance to gather our knowledge to find what is still lost and what is just splitamong the Orders. <b><u>Bring back Sensei Matoko</u></b>, give him sash or headband or even shackle questlines to replace the Brawler to Monk line. </font></font></font><div></div>

<DIV>Seriously though, those bruisers need to develop thier own history now. Stop living off hand-me-downs that us monks should only be allowed to use.</DIV>
<P>You can keep your yin-yang sissy boy dresses! Hope your legs don't get tangled up in 'em during one of your fruity little spin kicks. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P>"I pity the fool who wears a dress!" -Mr. T</P> <P>Seriously though, I guess I picture bruisers coming from Ghengis Khan type lore, like Asian Barbarians vs. the Budhists influence for the monks. More of a conquer the world and make the women swoon with our mightiness, while the Monks sit in their dojos trying to catch flies with chopsticks.</P> <P>I admit that I haven't really seen any existing Bruiser lore in the game yet, if it exists. Nor am I heavy into role-playing like some of you are, but I do enjoy reading your lore posts.</P>

<div>If you go and do the newbie quests in the Sprawl you'll get dirt on the Dreadnoughts, which are basically the Freeport-sanctioned bruisers. There's also the Ashen Disciples in PoF.I think the reason there's not much lore is because bruisers are a relatively recent development. Just a bunch of monks that valued brute strength and toughness a little more than the graceful, high-technique-oriented stuff that the Ashen Order was into.</div>

<div><font face="Arial" size="2">Here is a fictional account of how the Dreadnaughts came to be. Please forgive any mistakes in lore. It was early when I wrote this. <span>:smileytongue:</span></font></div> <div> </div> <div><font face="Arial" size="2">Now it is said that sometime during Lucan's quest to secure himself as the unopposed ruler of Freeport, he had many a potential enemy "disposed" of. The monks that made their home in Freeport represented a real threat to his power grab. What is not known is how they were disposed of.</font></div> <div> </div> <div><font face="Arial" size="2">One must remember that the populous, while happy that they were saved, were not entirely behind Lucan to begin with. Food was in short supply, living conditions were meager at best. </font></div> <div> </div> <div><font face="Arial" size="2">Lucan understood that the masses needed to be distrac.... entertained. So he gave them THE PIT.</font></div> <div> </div> <div><font face="Arial" size="2">What better way to deal with his enemies and please the residents of Freeport then to put them into the Pit. The Ashen order were forced to fight any and all who Lucan put before them.</font></div> <div> </div> <div><font face="Arial" size="2">All was well until a monk named Jespar Solus began to gain favor among the people of Freeport. He seemed unstoppable. He killed with the speed and precision of the Monk masters of legend. Lucan, fearing what might happen if this monk was allowed to live, searched all over the realm for a combatant that could defeat Jespar.</font></div> <div> </div> <div><font face="Arial" size="2">Lucan went so far as to offer a title and high ranking position to anyone who could defeat this Ashen order monk. Many answered the call, and many died. Then one day a barbarian from the streets of Freeport entered the pit and faced Jespar. Grude Glaciermane wore the scars of living the hard life in Freeport and the war that took Halas. The Glacier removed his jerkin to reveal a body that appeared to be made of granite, but marbled with scars of battle.</font></div> <div> </div> <div><font face="Arial" size="2">As the two faced off, Jespar wasted no time and began to attack Grude. Blow after blow Jespar landed. Grude seemed shrug off the pain, he almost seemed to enjoy it.</font></div> <div> </div> <div><font face="Arial" size="2">Grude then launched an attack of his own. He grabbed Jespar in a bear hug and threw him to the ground. He began to stomp on his vital areas, slowing Jespar down just enough.</font></div> <div> </div> <div><font face="Arial" size="2">For what seemed an eternity the two traded blows till neither could stand. The fight was deemed a draw and the crowed cheered like never before. Such a brutal battle only served to raise the moral of the citizens of Freeport.</font></div> <div> </div> <div><font face="Arial" size="2">The combatants would have to fight again. There could be only one who would called the champion of the pit. </font></div> <div> </div> <div><font face="Arial" size="2">The two fighters were given time to heal. Over that time Grude vis<span class="577361717-04052006">i</span>ted <span class="577361717-04052006">with </span>Jespar<span class="577361717-04052006"> many times</span>. Jespar was very impressed with Grudes ability to withstand the multitude of punches and kicks that Jespar had thrown at him. Grude too was impressed with the speed and precision that Jespar employed. To say the two developed a friendship, would be an overstatement. A respect for one another would be more accurate.</font></div> <div> </div> <div><font face="Arial" size="2">Grude questioned Jespar about his technique and his ability to dodge many of Grudes devastating blow. Grude in turn told Jespar about his ability to withstand physical pain.</font></div> <div> </div> <div><font face="Arial" size="2">The day came again and the two entered the pit. The crowd loud and drunk with bloodlust. The two fighters approached and then Grude did something unexpected. He took the same stance that Jespar was in. Jespars eyes raised with uncertainty and Grudes mouth cracked a wicked smile. </font></div> <div> </div> <div><font face="Arial" size="2">Jespar raged at how foolish he had been to trust Grude thinking him of a similar spirit. Grude blocked and dodged blows that had landed with ease in the previous fight. He seemed to weave the precision of Jespar with his own savage brutality.</font></div> <div> </div> <div><font face="Arial" size="2">In the end, Jespar lay bloodied and broken on the floor of the pit. Grude standing over Jespar looked at him and simple said "The fight never ended." the jespar died.</font></div> <div> </div> <div><font face="Arial" size="2">Lucan, so impressed with Grude, did as he promised and gave him the title Lord of the Pit and tasked him to train a group of fighters in the methods that Grude had employed. And thus the Dreadnaughts of Freeport were born.</font></div><div></div>

<DIV>in the spirit of cusahorn, whats the purpose of this thread? all i see is cusahorn getting wet over the possibility of getting his monk dress again. you dont want bruisers to have it? you are nasty in just about every thread ive seen you respond to and now youre all excited. well i say down with monks and bruisers for that matter. dumbest concept ever for eq. wheres the expansion dedicated to paladins or shadowknights? or any class for that matter. im not saying the work done on this isnt going to good, i just never liked monks in eqlive and dont like them in eq2 either. not to mention they are and have always been broken. i can see why so many people play them. and back to my original point? why is this in history and lore?</DIV>

The bruisers have a history. They sprang from the Ashen Order in Freeport. But there is a mystrerious figure that played a part in the corruption of the monks. With the help of this person, the Dreadnaughts were formed and the brutal art of the bruiser came to be. We'll have to talk about this later, or maybe you will happen upon the truth.

<P> While doing the DoF questline for my Ebon Dragon title I remember your helping a faction of the Order that are starting to think differently then the rest (more about power, what I would consider a bruiser). Wish I would have sreenshotted the exact text along the quest line, but it seemed that there essentially was a Bruiser faction being created and you were helping out.</P> <P> I have always thought that this is somewhat how Bruisers came about. Basicly succombing to the wants and darker desires for power over others.</P>

<blockquote><hr>Cusashorn wrote:<div>Seriously though, those bruisers need to develop thier own history now. Stop living off hand-me-downs that us monks should only be allowed to use.</div><hr></blockquote>Actually, if you speak to Enforcer Kurdek in The Sprawl, you will realize they <i>do</i> have a history, at least the way he tells it. According to Kurdek, it is accurate to claim that the Bruiser discipline (if you will) is a direct descendant of the techniques developed by members of the Ashen Order who remained behind in Freeport, few in number though they may have been....and their corruption notwithstanding, their fighting techniques are still very 'monk-ish' in form and style. It would be a mistake, I believe, to simply think of them as leather-and-iron-shod goodfellas. Any bruiser worth his fistwraps will readily acknowledge the monkish history and heritage of the Dreadnaughts....and then will go on to explain (with their fists, at the least) how their art is now much evolved from (and therefore superior to) that of their Ashen Order forebears....and thus superior to any other in-close fighting styles. So no....the hand-me-downs are perfectly legit for a bruiser, I think. I'm sure they would agree.<div></div>

Bruisers sound like they are from the fighting style that conditions their body to take blows when need be and avoid being hit when needed. They are also up front and direct with their damage being full force with their blows being straight to the point.</P> <P>Monks are enlightened with inner peace that only fight when provoked like the Samurai of old *think thats it*. Monks are skilled martial artists using various techniques to inflict damage on different scales pacing themselves out. This way they are not easily tired opposed to the Bruisers which are like Bottle Rockets, they go off boom expend their energy then they are done.</P>
