View Full Version : What's the deal with everything turning undead in this game?

<DIV>Seriously, it is nice to see views from Age of Turmoil, or familiar names as zombie or ghost but what's the deal with all the undead figures around us? It is like whole Norrath never died all turned Undead or spirit. Is there any possible way to die normally and rest in peace?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>No, it is not flame, just looking for answers behind this.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Not just half NPC's being undead , horses, doggies, even now shields are ghost. What's going on? Maybe it's because so many people/animals/things are dying very violent and horrible deaths.. and then find it hard to rest in peace? :smileytongue:

This is a magical world and there are many forces acting upon the 'essence' of living things. Upset that balance and you can easily be trapped in one form or another. Search for Ethenere. Vhalen gave a nice summary about what goes on there and why some things just can not die. Also with Necromancy freely practiced, I'm sure some of those forces make it very hard for the essence of living things to find peace. <div></div>

Things exist. Dogs, human, shields whatever. In existence there is life and death. Just because something dies in EverQuest 2 doesn't mean it goes away like would in our world.

<P>I think it has to do with the natural energy being askew in the realm of the living and the effect of the Luclin shards that have fallen to Norrath. </P> <P>If you remember in EQ1, (some) animals actually got along peacefully with people, and more so with Druids. Now that Luclin shattered, nothing is the same. On some of the shards you can find around Norrath, undead surround it. On other shards, it's killed the land but living things surround it. </P> <P>One of Norrath's moons was destroyed. (Scientifically speaking) that has a profound effect on the planet the moon resides over. Why shouldn't it have an effect over living energy, dead or alive?</P>

All through the movie he kept trying to clue in Bruce Willis by saying, "They just don't <EM>know</EM> that they're dead."</P> <P>Perhaps, just perhaps, it is not the dead who have come back to life in this, the Land of the Living. <P>I know that the skellies, and zombies, ghosts etc. know they are dead in EQ2. </P> <P>What I was think is that maybe WE don't realize where we are. It would be an interesting twist; but you're right, it's probably a little too sophisticated for a MMORPG.</P>

Most games are cliche. How many times can you package good vs. evil and have it come out different? And if it weren't for that movie, it wouldn't be cliche. I haven't seen an MMORPG with that twist to it.

Kinda like using everquest 2 instead of callin this game Torn World or something it just helps people identify and gives the lore peeps something to chew on for fun.</P> <P>Also death is a mysterious force and has provoked the imagination of people probally since the begining. No one knows what really happens after death and we as the players would probally be fascinated to see eq2's fantasy out look on the subject as well as let us intereact with it. Look at WoW the have a playable race that are undead, thier is just too much fantasy interest not to put it in.</P> <P>To answer OP's question though i am not sure why the amount of undead beings is high in this game. But from a roleplay perspective i would say norrath went through many wars, the moon blew up, many were killed, and entire continents have been seperated. Maybe we are just seeing the leftovers from the onslaught of mayhem that has taken place in the recent past.</P>

Well perhaps we should think about what *truly* would have happened in death back in EQ1 when the gods were around. Would the dead not aspire to join thier gods in the planes? In the lore pages written for the release of EQ2 when the old monk meets Quellious, he asks her if it's his time, meaning is he dead. You could say then the undead in EQ are those brought about by necromantic means, or those who were not worthy to join thier gods in the planes. This would come into play in EQ2 that since the gods have removed themselves from the immediate sphere of influence that *no one* at all is able to ascend to the planes with thier gods and are therefore stuck on Norrath itself.<div></div>

The huge amount of undead now on Norrath makes complete sense to me. After undergoing Norrath's version of the apocalypse, it stands to reason that the restless dead would be huge in number. Mix in necromancy and the departure of the gods, and you have an atmosphere ripe for the dead not staying dead!
