So it seems that SOE are staying away from a lot of the EQ1 stuff, out of fear maybe because the original EQ is still growing and they could make big changes and cause contradictions.A case in point being the events of Darkhollow (maybe PoR, although I don't have that yet) not being reflected in the EQ2 world.DoF is set in an area of Ro that wasn't in EQ1, and KoS, Splitpaw, and Bloodlines weren't in EQ1 either. It seems to me they're skating around the edges of the old lore. Some have theorised that the text in the Words of Zeburoxuk indicates a fracture in the timeline and that EQ2 is now a seperate continuity, which if it does means they have free hands to do what they want.So what do you think? I'm an occassional viewer of the lore board so I may have missed something. The depth of the EQ lore was always one of its greatest assets, I'd really love to see updates on what happened with old EQ1 events and places... Am I way off base?

<div>Read the book, words of Zerbroux or whatever his name is. It explains, basically that Zer was screwing around and split the timeline into two, EQ1 being the linear one, and EQ2 being the offshoot.</div>

<div></div>The timeline splite between EQ1 and EQ2 occur during the Plane of Time encounter in Planes of Power. Druzzil rolled the clock back for EQ1 and reset it so the Plane of Time was never breached and Zeb was never freed. The EQ2 timeline continues with the events "as is" with the mortals breaching PoT and defeating the gods. All expansions and lore after the Plane of Time event occured in EQ1 don't nessasarily have to happen in EQ2 because of the temporal split. They are two seperate and divergent story/time-lines. Omens of War may never have occured for instance in EQ2's past for instance because those events transpired after the split... or if they did, they might have had different results.<div></div><p>Message Edited by Dreadfiend on <span class="date_text">03-27-2006</span><span class="time_text">06:31 AM</span></p>

In that case I'm wondering why they're keeping their distance from eq1 lore at the moment. I mean, I read an old Press Release that said the first Adventure pack was supposed to be about Neriak and the Dark Elves taking over the Underfoot, and I find it kind of sad that didn't happen as I find it a lot more compelling than Bloodlines...
I don't have the quote at hand, but didn't one of the developers, pretty early on, state that it was a mistake to call the game <i>EverQuest II</i>?Personally, I think there are several reasons for the "distancing":1. The devs have more artistic freedom developing completely new content rather than doing something based on well-known EverQuest lore and content.2. SOE management might want to position EQ2 as a completely different game rather than strictly a "sequel". (And it really is a completely different game)3. They might be alternating "traditional" and "all new" content for expansions. It's possible that Expansion 3 will be based more firmly on known EverQuest lore (Faydwer perhaps?) the way Desert of Flames did, and Expansion 4 will take us to new or less-known places the way Kingdom of Sky did.Keep in mind that both camps have their loyal supporters. There are at least as many people complaining about "rehashing" as there are people asking for more traditional content, and SOE has to try to keep everyone happy.<div></div>

I don't really see how they are "distancing" themselves from the original game's lore. The bulk of this expansion ties directly into one of the most famous subplots of the original Everquest -- it's the aftermath of the Sleeper's awakening. That's not tied in?<div></div>

<div>Splitpaw was most deffinitly part of EQlive. Since the very beginning. I remember leveling up my level 12 shaman there.</div><div> </div><div>It was the first zone in the game to be revamped into something more challenging and appropriate for the surrounding environment of South Karana. The Torn Ear clan of gnolls invaded Splitpaw in July of 1999 and kicked out the Splitpaw Gnolls.</div>

What I meant was, one of the developers said DoF is based in the area of Ro you can't reach in EQ1, the stuff you can see over the zone line that you can't reach. And is Splitpaw in EQ1 the same as Sundered Splitpaw? I thought it was a seperate... 'offshoot'.I didn't know about the Sleeper lore connection...
<div></div><font color="#ffff00">Been a while since i played EQ1 but I remember that in the Oasis of Mar there was a canyon that looked like a zone line just west of the Orc Highway, this would tie in with the ascent up the cliff from the docks in DoF.</font>
