Many common spells from the Age of Turmoil were lost. This could also refer to combat arts, I do wonder about the ingame reason for their loss?Lost lore off the top of my head:LevitationThe Eye of Zom: That Spell was so cool to watch (never had wizard)Shadowknight petsBeastlord ClassI'm sure there are many others. I mean this could make some interesting In game lore

Message Edited by Zabjade on 02-14-200608:05 AM

Actually, an Erudite in Starcrest explains how the Ashen Order of monks invented Combat Arts after they moved out of Freeport.

As for those lost spells, That Eye of Zomm spell wouldn't prove usefull in this game's mechanics..

You still have to explain it in game :smileyvery-happy:

Ok. All those mages got tired of having the Eye of Zomm spell nerfed over and over and over again so they decided Aww screw it.

My explanation would be that certain spells draw upon the power of Gods and other "higher" beings and became ineffective when the Gods withdrew their influence from Norrath.

In reference to Levitation, there are NPC's and indications that explain that Levitation is still possible and that nothing ever changed of it.

It's just that for EQ2, we don't have Levitate because people could exploit the game's mechanics on many levels.

I would give anything to have lev back. After 3 years on eq1 of soe, it is still weird for me to not be floating. It may be sad, but id even go back to playing my fury if theyd give me soe back =)

Basically it was the mage version of safe fall, it could never get very high in the air for very long. I always thought they might not have it because running in the air would look odd.

BUT with KoS and the Transports between the islands being clouds looks like a perfect way to do Levitate?

So we established that levitate IS in the game. Obvious as in Flying carpets the UFO in Qeynos and Lucan's tower in Freeport(Used to be the old Hall of Arcane Science) It's Just not allowed in General Public.

For in game for Eye of Zomm, Lets see. Lost art? After all, the current mage tower in South Qeynos is WAY south of precataclysm South Qeynos because the old Mage tower which used to be there is now in the ruins. Meaning that the copy there used for transcribing was lost.

For Freeport they Eye of Zomm was the reason that Lucan Kicked the mage's out of the tower so they couldn't spy on him and he collected and burned the scrolls?

the only other places on the mainland that likely sold or kept copies was Neriak(Keep an eye on those Thexians) and High Hold Keep(the remains of which is the old Island of Refuge)

Things that make you go hmmmm

Message Edited by Zabjade on 02-14-200606:30 PM

Seriously? The remains of HHK is the newbie island? I know Im a bit gullable, but that one seems a bit far out.

We forgot the biggest spells that were "lost/forgotten" Teleportation! Im hoping the reference to "refound teleportation skills" that is mentioned in regards to the spires is foreshadowing eventually getting ports back. I would also go back to the fury if they gave me that =).

Oh yah, for the record, the reason why I love spirit of eagle is *because* of the lev. Very useful, and like I mentioned earlier, extremely used to it by now. Its also crazy fast compared to eq2 run speeds.

The teleportation spells wer't so much lost as rendered usles by the gods. the only teleport spells that still work are Call of the Overlord, Call of Qeynos, Call of RO plus the Splitpaw Crystal and the Poet's Palace mirror and carpet.

When you get up there it's basically just a big, empty box. I fell in on accident once and had to gate out. :smileyhappy:

I'm sure there were more exploitive things that could be done with it

It would be exploitive to EQ2's mechanics.

Assuming that the caster doesn't just sink like a rock, they could easily place themselves up high enough to attack a mob without it attacking back, or travel over difficult terrain or fly over mobs and stuff like that.

Levitation never stayed that high for long normally and was not any more exploitive the sneak for avoiding mobs. If you stay in one area fighting you will sink into the group in a matter of time (half a minute tops). As for going on top of models there was someone in the image forum who somehow managed to climb a lot of building in Qeynos and you can see the box structures you are referring to.

Message Edited by Zabjade on 02-15-200607:54 PM

I heard an angry mob of erudites were trying to erase all memory of Al'Kabor's hideous contributions to magical science and got a little carried away. Then they staked him to the ground outside Qeynos and let a snake kick him to death.
