<DIV>I reached level 50 today, and recieved "maelstrom of dismay", the spell that stuns you, draws power from the enemy, and gives it to your group. My question is - in what situations do you use this? I would imagine that in a group it would be far too ineffective to compensate for being stunned, and it can only be used in combat. Is this useless, or am I just not seeing what makes it an effective spell?</DIV>

<DIV>I think the level 50 spells are supposed be for when things are looking mighty grim. If I'm in a long fight or a series of long fights and I'm having a hard time keeping the group standing because the scouts or mages are pulling aggro, the wards are falling off the tank before I can re-apply them and people are starting to run low on power, then I do group ward then maelstrom. At the very least it improves our chances of survival even if it pulls mobs on to me.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I will also use it if the tank is chain-pulling and looking low on power. Just means I don't need to ward for the next fight and helps keep the group's power up. Toss in manastone while it's running and the power loss to me is negligible.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The benefits to the spell are immense in my opinion the more people in your group using power and being healed, the more powerful it is. It's too bad it has a 3 min recast on it hehe.</DIV>

its just a spell that hurts the class, like the single target fear,or the auto revive, you can do a great job with your defiler without these 3 skills.they just skill that work against us on class balance

<P>Theres 2 situations in the game where i use this spell, otherwise i never ever cast it because its totally useless for the stun. WIthout using it i can do more dps, heal more, regain more and drains are totally useless. At the same time it takes me being stunned from this spell.</P> <P>Use 1: When duoing poets palace with a dirge in the golem room on the second floor. Huge encounter and the dirge is kiting it so curruption + meastrom = best dps</P> <P>Use 2: PPR raid on the infamous huge encounters in there, i cast this after all other ae spells for some more damage before the encounter dies.</P> <P>I think this spell is nr2 on the least cast spells list for me, nr1 being crystallize whatever.</P>

<div></div>The fact that you can cancel it at ANY time should not be dismissed. Sometimes I cast it and cancel it immediately. While the net power drain - cost is negative for the Defiler, its actually decent power for the rest of the party. You can't really use it in any sort of battle where time is a factor, as it does what it does rather slowly.None of the stun line spells are all that powerful for any healer (and the Inq. version is purely offensive even). Their best use is generally when grouped with another priest. With that said tho, the auto-rez and fear are certainly not spells that hurt the class as someone suggested. The auto-rez is a spell that every priest gets. If you are not using this... why not? Heck, cast it on yourself before a Named pull in case taunt is resisted and you get "Shamaggroed." Fear is so awesome for anyone that does use it that there really isn't a question for those of us who do. In my opinion, NOT utilizing the abilities your class is given just because you think its bad is what hurts your ability to play the class.<div></div><p>Message Edited by Sokolov on <span class=date_text>05-03-2006</span> <span class=time_text>01:10 PM</span>

My guild group looks mostly like this:berserker or pally as tankfury or warden as other healer3 mages (mostly 2x warlock, 1x wizard)As you can see in most cases the group doesn't have extra incombat power regen. The tank and the mages need now and then a break to get power back. In such groups I use mealstrom as much as possible: precast group ward, cast forced canni on inc and then mealstorm. Group ward + mealstorm + other healer is more then enough to keep the tank up and the group gets some power back. Oh, and the spell is extra good if you do some ring events and don't have time for a med break like the one in the Sepulcher.

It's good for soloing. Cast Bane, debuffs, dots then Maelstrom. It goes really well with Spiritual Circle.I use it on raids and let it tick 1-2 times for 150 pow for my grp.<div></div>
