Im just looking for simple explanitions on defilers class. Im going to roll a kerra, but I don't know if the mystic, or Defiler is more my style of play. Not looking for a "we are best because..."Iv'e heard defilers have good DeBuffs, how are the wards in comparison to mystic? If you've played both mytic/defiler could you give a breif synopsis of each? thanks all.<div></div>

<div></div><p>I honestly believe the best decision is to pick which starting city you like most, pick the class you like most, then go with the subclass specific to that city, unless both subclasses are available for that city. In the case of shaman, they are not. If you want to be from Freeport, you are a Defiler, and if you want to be from Qeynos, you are a Mystic.</p><p>I've tried Qeynos characters, and I just strongly prefer Freeport. To me, Qeynos is too cheerful, too well lit, and it has hobbits, and I've never believed that food should be available as a character choice. Obviously the majority of players disagree with me based on the larger population of Qeynos, but I just feel more at home when vendors insult me when I make a purchase, and guards threaten me with a beating when I ask for directions. I think what most sold me on Freeport was the dead kittens on the counter of the pet store in West Freeport.</p><p>But seriously, both subclasses have players who will tell you their subclass is better, and others who will tell you their subclass is worse, than the other subclass. Rather than add to this confusion, and in the interest of promoting peace and harmony among shaman, I'd suggest you just spend a few hours reading both the Defiler and Mystic boards, then taking to a few of each in game, before deciding. That research will probably help you decide that one of the two subclasses is best for you.</p>

<div></div><p>I originally had a kerran mystic - lvled her to 25, kinda got bored with her for some weird reason. Then said well I will try a Defiler see which one I like better. I instantly fell in love with my defiler. I don't know if it was the insults in Freeport, or the dead kittens at the pet store ( as Ixnay said ), but she just inthrawled me. I now have high lvl 60's defiler and still just loving her.</p><p>As for healing ability I have heard the wards on Defiler are a little stronger, but that is prob half a dozen one way and half a dozen the other. For your group cure we cure the poision they do elemental. Ixnay had a good suggestion - read the boards find out what peeps are hating and what they are loving and make a choise from there. Each have thier high debates ( one of our favs right now is over the defile spell you get at 65. ( personally I really like it ) ), but as a whole they are both good heals. Though I am not sure if it was the specific mystic - but when I was on my wizzy, I was in roost and we had a lvl 57 Mystic and he couldnt keep up on the heals - but when I was in there at 56 I was able to solo heal it without much of a prob except for the last named, who gave me a run for my money, but didn't lose the tank or anyone else in the group. /shrug I have ALWAYS had my wards and heals at Adept 3 or M2 ( when the M2 choices came around ) - so that may have made a difference I don't know what the Mystics heals / wards were at.</p><p>Bottom line - are you a goody tushoos or a mean and evil person - It takes a special personality to be a healer from Freeport. I got tired of all the nicities in Qeynos. Started to think - DOESN'T ANYONE GET MAD HERE? :smileyvery-happy:</p><p>Still loving my defiler even with all "issues" - but every class has them and SOE will be tweeking them all here and there.</p><p>HAPPY HUNTING!</p><p> </p>

<div>For the most part I find the two classes fairly well-balanced. Only differences I've picked up on are as follows:</div><div> </div><div>- Defiler debuffs single targets more effectively, while Mystics have more group debuffs that debuff for less intensity.</div><div>- Defiler heals seem to heal for a little more than Mystics, but that seems necessary when dealing with groups of mobs. If you can only debuff one target at a time, then the rest of the encounter will be doing more damage to your group</div><div>- Defiler and Mystic seem to have exactly the same wards. Given the same spell upgrade, they should ward for the same and cost the same amount of mana</div><div> </div><div>I'm not sure how this turns out over time, but it seems like the dev's set out to make one class better equipped for levelling while one is better equipped for raiding. As a mystic, you can probably mitigate damage from group encounters more effectively than a defiler of similar level and equipment. As a defiler, you probably can debuff and mitigate against a single raid mob more effectively than a mystic can.</div><div> </div><div>Just as an example, can someone confirm how much a mystic attack debuff slows for? My defiler spell 'Degenerate' at master1 reduces a single mob's attack speed by 24%. How does the mystic spell of the same purpose compare?</div>

<div></div><p>Plain and simple the Defiler has no advantages over Mystics, they simply have slight differences. As Ixnay stated just check the boards for info on both classes and decide in what city you want to be aligned with.</p><p>Good luck.</p>
