Has anyone else noticed that we seem to be generating even more aggro than ever before, or is it just me ?

Last night while in the Gates of Ahket Aken the mobs were running straight for me on every other encounter. It got so bad that even the Warden & Templar in the group were asking what was causing it.

I didnt have the shroud line of buffs on (I never use them if with a cleric), just Rapacity, Portent, Efflux, Countenance. Wasnt pre- warding in fact tbh after the first time wasnt doing anything on pull except standing there........but it made absolutely no difference. Saw the tanks inc message and then ..splat...

Im used to generating some aggro either on raids or in a group but absolutely nothing like this at all. It was so bad I ended up nekkid :smileysad:

Would really love to know if this is happening to anyone else cause atm am not at all a happy bunny.

Kesha..

67 Defiler

Dkhar

Please read:

(from a fury who cares) is your aggro borked?

This has been a problem for a very long time, and it is unique to defilers. In a recent mystic thread, they said this is not a problem with them at this time.

Yes, this has been a longstanding, huge problem for me. As I recall, it was worse in Ahket than probably anywhere else. I don't know what causes it, there are at least a dozen different theories about this.

Where you the first person in the zone??

There is a bug that causes this.. if you are the first one in the zone, and the tank body pulls, or a taunt gets resisted, you will automatically be the first person on the hate list..

If you weren't the first one in the zone, then something was seriously wrong.. I've never had it that bad before, and I usually keep all my buffs up, and even pre-ward on occation..

I don't care what any other Mystic tells you, it is a problem until you figure out what is going on. I died quite a few times in Akhet raids due to this mechanic. WIth that zone, it is a little easier to see what is happening.

If you are warding pre-pull, or soon after the pull, mobs that are running in from across the room likely aren't in range of that initial taunt. Thus, the tank may have agro, but anything is going to pull these other mobs off him.

First mob takes a swing at the tank & hits. That ward fires off, and now becomes a huge source of agro. Since the original mob was in range of the taunt, he will stay on the MT. However, those adds coming in from across the room? The didn't get that original taunt, so the biggest source of agro generation is your ward. They all come running right for you, eager to make some shamman crunchies.

This really isn't a problem for Druids and Clerics, since a HoT or a Reactive will only heal a set amount each tic/hit. But a ward can fire off for its entire amount in one hit, creating a huge agro spike.

The only way I found to not become a toothpick was to stop prewarding, and to make sure that every mob for that encounter was on the tank and taunted before casting that ward. A good tank should be able to take a couple hits before that ward goes up. And the HoT and reactives will help with that too.

It is easy to work around it, but it can be difficult to pinpoint the problem. Hope that this helps.

You were likely "it" in Gates. One person will usually be "it," that is - the default target of incoming mobs - usually the first person to zone in (though this changes if people drop/relog/etc). You can actually take advantage of this by having 1 or 2 tank types zone in before the rest of the raid. Park everyone up by the carpet, zone tanks in, then everyone else zone in. Works wonders, especially for the triggered snakes that love to come through the walls to hit "it."

A word about pre-warding though: while every shaman has experienced the pain of pre-ward aggro, it is actually not "massive aggro" as others have said. In fact it's rather small aggro for all heals - small enough that a single damage hit will be enough to take aggro back. Compare this to other real "huge aggro " actions such as scout debuff/damage hits, summoner pet damage spikes, etc.

A little trick: Try having the tank hold the Ae taunt until after the mobs have hit the ward and changed targets to you. I know - sounds crazy - but a taunt after the ward effect actually works better than an ae taunt before. The tank needs to have solid timing and position to do this, but it works very well. We were grouped with a lower level monk tanking in HoF, and pre-warding was really necessary for him to survive the initial hits. He saved up his ae taunt for the split second after the mobs made contact with the ward, and I had almost no problems the entire run.

I can duplicate this "bug" 100% of the time, when two boxing on my dirge and defiler:

Defiler on one side of the zone, dirge on the exact opposite side of the zone at the farthest possible distance, hundreds if not thousands of meters away. Dirge pulls and agro's a multi mob encounter. All mobs in the encounter will race across zone, away from Dirge and toward Defiler. The encounter will eventually break based on the distance between mobs and Defiler.

I'm sorry to say I've reported this bug dozens, if not a hundred or more times.

Since I've never received a response, I've come to believe it is intended as a feature, so I use it for agro free harvesting.

This has NOTHING to do with warding of any kind. My Defiler simply has extremely high innate "hate" or something that causes ALL mobs to agro on him first, either duoing, in a group, or at a raid. When the mobs spawn or are pulled, they will rush to my Defiler before any other player in the area, as can be shown by an assist on the mobs when they spawn, and until they are taunted off.

This same exact result occurs when full geared, with no gear, when fully buffed, and with no buffs of any kind, and in any combination of those situations.
