View Full Version : Very Young Defiler... how do I do it better?
<div>OK, my defiler is pretty close to 20th level. I made her to support my friends on Nagafen. My main is a templar on a PvE server, so I feel pretty comfortable being a healer, but...</div><div> </div><div>When we pull, I get the wards going and then debuff things. Since wards work so great, I am left with nothing to do after the debuffing. Of course, I start trying to do some damage. It really seems expensive mana-wise. I like to keep a little power in reserve incase some wily Qeynosian rolls up on us or a ton of heroics spawn on us.</div><div> </div><div>Is there a better M.O. for me?</div>

<div>Theres a few things i usually do when grouping and killing fairly easy stuff to make it more interesting.</div><div> </div><div>Tell the tank to pull more groups at once to use true ae's better and he takes more damage so you get to heal more.</div><div>Make sure the tank is in offensive stance so he takes some hits and i dont fall asleep.</div><div>Run around pulling stuff with my sta debuff, carefull on this if you got a bad tank hehe.</div><div>Spam HOs at the mobs.</div><div>Browse the forums :smileywink:</div><div> </div><div>On a lil side note some tanks are very very "firm" in their way of tanking and gets mad and yells at you when you tell them to go into offensive or pull mobs. In a steady group it shouldnt be a problem but sometimes in pickups it gets messy.</div>

I have a lvl 20 defiler alt, and after the group ward, I melee and toss a dot. I know I'm not trying to dps, and I'm saving mana for any heroic adds. I'm usually grouped with a 19 SHD and the two of work work nice together. I will use the dd/debuff for him instead of a dot usually.<div></div>

Hehe, sounds like you need a tougher xp spot. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<div>Yeah what these guys said. Heh heh, I am trying to remember back that far and yes I do remember some spots just being such good exp that we stayed there for awhile and things did get a bit boring with a grp that works so well together. But, getting that exp gets you to that next level and that gets you to more interesting (or should I say challenging?) spots. I know that at the level I am now, that when we are raiding or even just grouping things can go horribly wrong if I'm not paying attention (i.e. spams wards and debuffs and heals as needed). I get great joy out of using my HO's in grps, even though my measly 1000 points of damage doesn't compare much to the DPS in the grp (esp. in conjunction with an enemy mastery spell and my debuff/DoT). Oh yeah, and if I let you die, tell me to quit chit chatting in tells. :smileytongue:</div>

<div></div>Move on to some tougher stuff, 3Devious. That'll put your wards to work. Or you could start tanking with your pet when you hit 20 lol

<div>Thanks for the advice guys. Gotta keep my PSP put away and stay outta the chat because those rangers never let a girl sleep. It is cool that when I get to play my alt again, I'll get my pet and be able to get in more trouble.</div><div> </div><div>We can ward the pet, right?</div>

<div></div>At those levels? I DPSed and tanked and warded myself... usually had better gear and more aggro than most tanks at that level anyway....Oh, and also, I've found heroics can be easily duoed even into the 50s... a full group taking on heroics which aren't orange usually means Zzzzzz for the healer.<div></div><p>Message Edited by Sokolov on <span class="date_text">03-14-2006</span><span class="time_text">04:20 PM</span></p>
<div>Ward, debuff, chat <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> that's how I did it over the weekend and gained 5 lvl's (now lvl 25) Only in a bad pull did I need to be more alert or when we had adds.</div><div> </div><div>My tip, when you are in a group and have to spam wards and heals... leave the group immediately before you die too often.</div>

<div>cure dots always unless your fighting small stuff. Click examine for all the dots and see how much damage they do, usually a LOT. If you cure dots the ward stays up longer that is why I'm very strong on cures. Naturally I'm also debuffing like crazy unless we are fighting stuff too small to bother. </div><div> </div><div>Wards tend to make the tanks feel invincible until they start attacking stuff that eats through my ward too fast. When this happens I tell the tank that my ward can't cover mobs of x level so stay away. If the tank ignores my warnings warnings, I leave.</div>

I had a great group yesterday on my defiler in PoF, and the only time I had to stray from this method was when the brigand failed attemps at pick-pocketing! lol</span></div>

This thread pretty much sums up why I left EQ2 a year ago and went back to EQ1. I was playing a Templar back then and full groups meant barely being able to stay awake.Things are much better in EQ2 since the changes, but as a Defiler I still find duous or trios with DPS classes to be much more interesting than full groups. This game still needs a lot of work to make full group combat interesting.

If combat is boring anywhere it's definately in EQ1 =p<div></div>

<div>If you're bored then you need to go find something harder to fight.</div>

Boring? Definetly not...in a good full group, as a defiler even though you may not be healing much, wards and debuffs should definetly keep you busy, and the xp flies so quick.<div></div>
