Hello, I am new to EQ2 and would very much like to receive some wisdom from veteran Defilers since I am seriously considering making one myself. What has made me very interested of the class is the damage preventive method with wards, however; - I have read that the active heals “damage” the Defiler and this scares me a lot so here follows some questions I have:

1. How does the direct sacrifice healing work? Bad example: If all in the group including myself has 50% HP left and I use a group heal will everyone be healed by it? How will the “sacrifice” part play out on me? I really need a good explanation how this plays out as I don’t even know if the “healing” effect is received by the Defiler.

2. What are the key differences between the Defiler and the Mystic? Why I even ask this is because the Mystic does not receive them evil *shivers* sacrifice heals.

3. The Defiler/Mystic gets a “magic” form and I wonder if a player can cast magic “as usual” while transformed into the magic form or if there might be some limitations. I would love a URL to any pictures of the “magic forms” (if anyone has). Also, does the “magic form” scale with the race i.e. is it same size as an ogre and smaller for a gnome?

4. How good is the warding in grouping i.e. do we draw a fair share to the ant-hill with it or are we the fifth wheel under the wagon?

5. What are your personal pros and cons you see with the class?

6. If you could REMAKE your Defiler what would you do then and what would you avoid?

The very best regards!

P.S.

Please post images of your Defilers (if possible have it scaled/zoomed so you remove everything but your own avatar so they do not become so big).

1. kk first question, defiler heals cost some of our own hp. example. I cast my grp heal which heal for 1.1k, it cost me 245hp and power. The heal will heals everybody in my grp including me for 1.1k. but since i lost 245hp when i cast that heal, I really only get 855hp from it. You really shouldnt worry about this too much, defiler gets a self buff that gives us a constant regen of hp, even when i have to spam heals, my hp stays up pretty good.

2. There is little different between defiler and mystic other than some ancient teaching spells that we get at lvl 52/55/58. Defilers buff more hp making us a better shaman to have in a tank grp in raiding. Other than that, in a grp situation, a defiler is very similar to a mystic.

3. Mystic form is a bear, and Defiler form is a shadowy human figure. No the form doesnt have any negative affect, you can even do a /hide and hide the illusion. No the form doesnt take on your size, all illusions are of the same size.

4. grp ward and wards in general are extremely powerful in a grp, shaman in general really shine in grp situation since wards are very power efficient.

5. Pros with our class is that we are one of the best defensive healer, protecting the tank is our main goal and we do it extremely well, in a xp grp or in a Tank grp in raid. We have some of the best debuffs in the game, some of the best buffs in the game, and the most powerful direct heals in the game. The cons about our class is that even though our heals and wards are powerful, they are slow to cast. If you like fast action with lots of fast heals, a druids is a much better choice. Secondly defilers have very low dps output. Soloing as a defiler is extremely boring since our dps isnt that good. Again in this department druids really shine. They have the best dps out of all the healers.

6. After i reach lvl 60, i repec my defiler and to for all stamina instead of wisdom. I'm in a high end raiding guild and stamina and hp is alot more important to me than wisdown since i can easily reach wisdom cap in a raid. i suggest any up and coming defiler to go for wisdom and when u reach max level and want to do some raiding, respec and go with stamina and hp Another thing i did was changing my looks used to have big crazy neon colors hair, im much better looking now your look is just as important as your gear/spells/skill remember that

Thanx for the nice replay and sweet image of your half-elf defiler, really neat!

Answers bring up more questions:

a. Shadowy human figure... hmm, does the "figure" change sex depending if it is a male or female that become it? Also, does it not look strange if I would be a Darkelf and suddently become a human shadow thing with no pointy ears? Ok, I guess the /hide command can be a good thing, but will it works so it hide the shadow for other players to like /showhood? :smileyhappy:

b. Can a Defilers warding even work (while leveling) in groups for casters/scouts or is it to slow for that?

c. respec? I am to new to know, but can one respec all racial picks and enemy picks and such? Wow, how does one do?

d. ehh, hmm, respec/change how a character looks? tell me more (I was a ID in SWG) on how one change the looks please oh please!

Thanx once again for a nice answer!

1. the shadow form is a male figure, no matter if youre a male or female, yeah i know its kinda suck When you do /hide it will hide the illusion for you and other players.

2. our single target ward is a 2sec cast spell, our grp ward is 5sec. The single ward is perfectly fine for grp, it is very powerful and is a spell you gonna use alot. Our grp ward is very slow and is not a good spell to use when people are already taken dmg. It is best to use your grp ward when the situation is stable, to take on the anticipate dmg.

3. You can repick all of your racial and class traits my typing /repec. You can only do this once. There is also a veteran reward shard that let give you a respec. The veteran reward is given to you at a certain age of your eq2 account.

4. You can change the way you look one time. At your character select screen you should see clicky boxes that let you change your character look and soga look.
