So Im coming to EQ2 after a long stint in WoW and as a Former 65 Monk and Shaman in EQ (Time Enabled Killed Quarm stopped shortly after) Looks like Ill be douing with a Bruiser as thats what my friend plays and I have chosen a defiler as it seems like a very busy button mashing style class which I enjoy. Just wondering what advice anyone has for a newbie and if there is a better place to gather information then these forumns ( I remeber the Crucible from my EQ days)See yall aroundYsys 13 Shaman Unrest

hi

defiler/mystic are the two shaman class in eq2. My advise for an up and coming shaman is that make good use of your wards (runes in eq) All healer classes in eq2 are equally powerful in a grp situation and wards are our equalizer. Learn to use your ward first and heal later. It's much more efficient to stop the dmg then heal up. have fun and enjoy the game

There is really only 1 steadfast rule/tip for defilers: DONT pre-ward and youll be ok. If you do pre-ward the mob will head straight to you which is bad.

If the Tank taunts as he should then I only draw agro if the taunts resisted. If that happen I sometimes use our fear spell that reduces hate, and if the tank taunts after I've feared them were back in business again. Or the tank manage to land a taunt before the mob gets to me. But I don't see a mob go after me often when tanks pulls. But I do see a problem with prewarding and that's if I use the group ward and mobs pop near the group or if someone gets to close to a static mob, then the tank aint ready and when the mob hits I'll get the aggro but other then that I dont see a problem

Its called deargo and it should be on your spell list. Same with emergency wards. At the very worst you group ward your group, cast a single ward on you and let the mobs come, before single ward is off you, the tank has argo, if its not happening you deargo. For a number of pulls you have to preward if you are duoing to give you time to kill the mob.

In a group setting, it's usually fine to pre-ward all you like.. as long as you have a tank that is quick on the taunts, or is not proximity pulling mobs.. Any ^^^ group mob you're fighting, you should be able to get away with getting pounded on for a while without dieing your self..

Raids.. now that's a totally different story.. IF the epic you are fighting is Low yellow, or below to your tank, you should be able to pre-ward without pulling aggro too often.. but if the Epic is High Yellow - Orange.. NEVER, Pre-ward.. Taunts get resisted WAY too much, and usually that named Epic will kill you in 1-3 hits.. It's just a good idea to wait till you see that taunt go off before your ward lands if you can help it..

I can't count how many times one of our Mystics has bit it on the pull because of pre-warding.. and yes.. I've laughed every time it happens :smileyvery-happy:

Good to know these things, I have a 37 defiler that I created recently for raids when we have those nights where we dont have enuff healers for a raid, that and my guild is lacking Defilers, of course he wont be raid ready b4 KoS comes out, but atleast after reading some of this stuff I won't be a n00b and get pwnaged on pulls when he gets there.

Pre-warding is okay, huh? Tell that to the 'ordinary' tank who pulls with a ranged. If you pre-ward and they pull with a ranged, the mob makes a beeline straight to you. Now if you got a 'good' tank who pulls with a taunt, then pre-ward away. That's in group settings.

In raids, I'd watch the pre-wards also. Example: Loremaster the other night. Our MG defiler pre-warded and got smacked around several times causing some havok. You pre-ward on the raid, I'll wait a few so the *insert epics name here* can get aggro on the MG MT (or firebat group...whatever) so i dont get 1 or 2 shotted.

pre-warding ok if taunt but not so great if tank pulls with body or a bow shot.prewarding on an EPIC is normally death unless you got the right classes

Doesn't matter if I draw aggro because I'm warded, but I rarely do.If the tank only has App 1 taunts, or doesn't use taunts, you're in trouble, but otherwise pre-warding is not an issue, from my experience anyway.
