View Full Version : Looking for advice - 21 Defiler in Splitpaw

I recently got to Sundered Splitpaw where I've been trying to gain the trust of the gnolls with my 21 Defiler.  Thus far I'm having two problems and hoped some of you fine people might have some advice for me. 1) In the arena I haven't had much trouble taking on any of the enemies up until the group of 3 yellow cons.  The problem here is that I can't seem to do enough damage to overcome the priest (Dark Elf) healing the other 2, or even healing herself.  I thought I'd focus on the priest first to remove healing power from the group, but I can't wear her out fast enough before the other two take out my wards.  I can last a while, but eventually I run out of power.  Should I try to take out the gnome first? 2) In Harclaves I don't find it too hard to make my way to the ark, but if I'm unlucky enough to have a priest-type gnoll in my way I have a similar problem as the above: basically I get into an power-endurance match and I am not coming out on top.  What suggestions do you have for fighting priest-mobs? Many thanks in advance for any advice.  I really enjoy my defiler - I just need to learn how to get more out of it! <div></div>

<P>For the arena I do the gnome then the inkie then the dwarf.  (priest -> scout -> fighter iirc)</P> <P>It is a stretch to finish up with enough mana, I think I ended up having to melee the last bit off of the dorf when I did this on my defiler.  </P>

I'll assume you're talking about Round 8 of the Splitpaw Solo Arena.  3 challangers that are all yellow--: Gnome Mage, Dark Elf Cleric, Dwarf Warrior. The main issue Defilers have with that fight is that we can not outdamage the healing done by the Cleric, which can easilly lead to her converting her entire power pool back into health for whichever one you are trying to kill, leading to a loss.  Unfortuanently at 21 you don't have a lot of options for dealing with it.  About the only thing that worked for me in the 20s to win that was timing Phantasm (13 AOE Fear, upgraded at 27 to Devigorating Chant) to interupt her heal right as I had either her below half health, with an HO ready to complete with my next nuke.If that Fear broke right away from DOTs and she got back to healing, I was pretty much toast. In the late 20s you'll get more tools for winning that fight. 26 Curse of Shielding is great to cast on the Warrior so 10% of his attacks are warding you. 29 Distill Soul can offset the healing by causing half of the heals to do damage.Really though, that fight only ever becomes a sure bet at 39, when you can just Fear off the Cleric to insta-beatdown the Mage without healing.<div></div>

<DIV>I did the Arena twice at 25, and once again at 26.  First time, I finished in the red health (like 5% or something crazy low) on the trio.  I went cleric, mage, fighter.  Died to the champ right after.  Went back in later, did the trio the same (5% or so health again), and didn't even try the champ.  Left, upgraded gear, came back at 26.  The trio went exactly the same (about 5% or so health when done), but handled the champ pretty easily.  But all three times vs the trio, went cleric, mage, fighter, and barely won.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Harclaves, at 26, I had no trouble except for if I got an add.  That basically spelled doom, even after the buff.  But no adds, no problem, each encounter, handled alone, was rather easy.</DIV>

<DIV>Also remember to use heroic oppertunitys, using "contagion" and "grey wind" should work nicely to give you more dps</DIV>
