Hello, I have a lvl 58 Mystic and I love him. I wanted to make a few alts..unfortunalty they all bore me. Playing a healer is much more fun then lets say...my warlock. I made a newbie toon last night, was wondering if there were big differences from Mystic to Defiler? The wards seems about the same...are your MT buffs better then Mystics? If its close maybe I'll try a warden or Temp/Inquis. I am on the evil side so I guess that limits my choices unless I do the betrayal. Mystics cooler spells are Torpor(ward/heal over time) and Avatar(MT buff agi/str/sta). Defilers have the same kinda cool spells 50+?

Message Edited by trin kahl on 12-09-2005 09:41 AM

Hi Trin,

Mystics and Defilers definatley have a lot of similarities.. Here are the basics from my understanding:

Defilers have the largest direct heals in the game (Along with Templars). Downside is we also have the longest recast timers of all of the priest classes.

Mystic / Defiler Wards are identical at the same spell level / quality as are our Grp Nox Cures.

We have the largest Single target Debuffs, but lack AE debuffs that Mystics receive

We have the largest HP buffs of any of the priest classes (With Portent single target buff)

Ancient Teaching spells are all great:
- Forced Cannibalize is almost like Perma crack
- Voice of the Ancestors can save a group from death by clearing "Most" controlling effects
- Spiritual Circle is a wonderful warding pet that will give you a lot of time to do things like Debuff / Dot / Spot heal and not break a sweat doing it

Defiler Level 50 Spell (Malestrom of Dismay) is an AE Dot / Powertap, that Heals / Gives power to the group (Stunned while in effect).
Mystic Level 50 Spell (Oberon) is an extremely powerfull regenerating ward, basically stoping 90% of the damage for the duration of the spell (Stunned while in effect)

Unlike Mystics, we do not have the ability to "Over heal" a tank, so you can waste power on a heal if tank is near full HP.. and we severely lack in AE debuffs (only have one Nox debuff that is our AE DoT). I also think that Mystics do higher overall DPS than we do, which can make soloing a "little" faster.

Mystics have better Melee buffs overall, and I believe we have better tank buffs. (Depending on the tank I guess)

Fears are great for Croud control, and I got my single target to master as soon as possible.. AE fear is great when you are getting pounded from too much warding / healing, and has saved my butt on countless ocations..

Overall I love the class.. I've been tempted to roll a Mystic to really get a good comparison, but the above is my understanding based on what I've researched / seen in game..

A good place to do some comparison is this page which contains a defiler spell list with screen shots . http://whisperlands.homedns.org:336/Games/EQ2/defiler-spelltable-screenshots.html

I've been thinking about an alt (mage since im a 60 sage) but if I had to pick a healer - I think I would go Inquisitor. It would still be the fun healer type you enjoy but as much different as a cleric to make it new and fresh. Defiler and Mystic are very, very close. If you did do a Defiler, learning the class will be extremely easy but you get to go thru the FP content. I'm trying to decide between a Necro or Warlock alt right now for my alt, not sure if I'm gonna enjoy sitting back and nuking all day - sounds kinda boring to be a mage in a grp/raid. Being a raid healer is high stress and addictive rush.

I hear ya....thats why I was asking...and I will check out the other post that has threads to Defiler spells when the Bossman isnt hovering around my cubicle I was thinking Inquis..just cause its a different healing class AND they can wear the heavier armor. I made the mistake of wearing leather armor in my 40's(mystic) grouping with 50+ guildies...Basically when the Runic Tailsman line had the hate rocking..I was found examining the dirt alot.

One more important note is that with we have very efficient healing. Our heals use both power and health, with wraith form basically making up for the loss in health. This makes our healing much more power friendly, coupled with force canibalize. It is VERY rare I ever run out of power, or get below 25% even having to spam wards and heals.

Not sure either, but vivication, a battle rez with no rez sickness at all, and 15% heal. great for getting right back in the game without being gimped. From what I've been told Mystics don't have that.

One cool thing about mystics though, that huge fat *#! badger lol!

I was with a Mystic friend in PP and I asked the Mystic, what does the badger do? "Not really sure, description just says 'Casts beneficial spells on group'". I'm not sure if my Mystic friend was ignorant or if SOE has done a real poor spell description but she was sure jealous of my spinning pyramid.

The badger is a heal over time with a fancy graphic. My adept 3 at lvl 59 is healing for about 210-250 a tick..think he does about 8 ticks all together. I was kinda wondering if the defiler had a comparable spell to Umbral Attendent(badger). Or Torpor(lvl 52 mystic spell) Heal over time with a ward. Also at lvl 50 I got this huge regenerating ward called Oberon. Regens the ward during its 36 sec. timer..basically next to nothing has knocked through this spell on our lvl 60 guardian. Do Defilers get a huge ward or heal or something at lvl 50? Made my uber priest lvl 10 on the weekend, so hes well on his way to Defiler

Defiler equilavent of Oberon is called Maelstrom of Dismay. It is an AE DoT and Power Drain that also Regens Group Health and, to me, far more importantly, Group Power. While Maelstrom clearly cannot compete as a healing spell, it is highly useful when stacked with a Group Ward or Spiritual Circle. It is also great damage against Grouped Encounters and the Power Regen is quite effective. Defiler equivalent of Torpor is Forced Cannibalize. It is a DoT that gives a self power regen. The recast time/duration is such that it can be kept on almost permanently as long as there is a mob alive to cast it on. Defiler comparable spell to the Badger is Spiritual Circle. Though they are not the same level, so I do not say "equilavent" as I did for the above. Spiritual Circle is a regenerating ward that gives an approximately 600 point ward per tick for any group members in range.

I firmly believe that there is no such thing as easy soloing with a priest class. I play a level 60 Inquisitor and a level 35 Defiler, and I flat out refuse to solo with them. People that don't play healing classes call me silly and say it couldn't be that bad, but it is. Inquisitors may do more dps than a Templar, but the point becomes moot when you take a step back and realize that we both take over a minute to kill a green solo mob. The possible exception to crummy priest DPS might be a Fury, but from what I've been told and I've seen, their dps isn't that great either and on parses my Inquisitor can out dps a Fury if I really try. You could argue all day over which priest has the best soloing capability, but the bottom line is that if you like to solo, stay away from priests.

Inq out dps fury.... ever seen a lv 58+ fury go dps?? G´[expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]! sure if there is no bard/chanter in grp they run oop fast but G´[expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]! how many aoe´s do inq get?? i can awnser that 0 zip nada.. how many do fury get... atleast acouple and that [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] Ring of Fire or whatever its call their aiding pet spell... 250 damage per tick on targets in radius of 10 meters or something.. keep up with that mr.inq and they have some hefty single target nukes aswell.. about mystics and defilers are verry similar 1 gets alittle more heals and the other alittle more wards ecr ect i think it would not be such a big different playing def when your main is mystic i would rather advice another healer class if you like em since between the classes sure we all heal but the difference is in "how" we heal.. warding, reactive management, regen spamming all is totaly different in when you cast and in what order... choose a different class and if you want different city and well you almost feel like starting at the beggining again relearning HOW to heal lol
