Hello. I'm a lvl 37 defiler that gets worked over by the pit champion like nobody's business. I have all my skills at adept 1, but nothing real special in the armor category. I've tried a couple different tactics to take him down and just can't seem to do it. Any advice and help would be appreciated.

I tried debuffing him, loading up the dot's and HO's and going to town. This method got him to 50% hps, oop, and I was dead.

I then tried to run him oop by warding and curing myself of his DoTs. Of course debuffing him first. This got him to full hps, oop, and me oop and dead. Obviously a bad choice.

I also tried a combination of the two. Loading up debuffs, DoTs, forgetting about ward and just trying to keep myself healed and cured. I think I had him down to about 40% hps, oop and I was dead.

Any suggestions?

Definately load up on potions and poisons. Find a buddy Necro and get some mana thingies. Heal and power potions might help. Throw everything you can find at him, plus the kitchen sink.....

Hello Punch. In my eyes the fight with the pit champ is a mana fight. He doesnt hit us so hard that our heals/wards cant keep up, they can np. Its the running out of power that always did me in when I first started fighting him. Grab some power elixers they will make the difference. Also let him run out of power first before you really start burning him with DOTS and damage. At level 50 I have that sweet little Defiler spell Purulence that spawns shadow avengers when broken. That makes the fight a cake walk. But if by chance they down get spawned a simply dance the mana shuffle and start my big attacks towards the end of the fight.

Also mitigation. Gear up with your high Mitigation gear, even if that means leaving the wisdom gear off for that round. I find that helped tremendously.

Gluck getting down and dirty in the Pit!

I'm level 50, so also find the emergency spells a big help. Took me 2 tries to finally get the easy level champ, but the medium I got on the first try. Havent tried the hard yet, but I don't think i'd do well. Maybe with potions as people been suggesting, I never really thought of that. Some tips... cast best ward on self close enough to fight for it not to expire, but long enough before engaging so as to power back up before you engage. I hit all the debuffs off the bat, 140-ish stamina debuffs probably hits harder than any dmg spell we can muster. I also use the dmg reduction spell right away (Cant recall name, the one from the vampire instance). Then i go to work with the dots, once I get to about 25% power, I swich to HO-mode, which basically means I chain cast HOs using only smite, this takes very little power and still does decent damage. For other level 50s, I found that a key thing is to get Purulence and Maelstrom off early, they do the most good if they last longer. It's a basic thing, but I didn't really think of it until my third try. Best of luck in the arena to all, cheers.

Arieste pretty much got it all down. You wanna put your group ward up pre fight, then get the stamina debuffs off as the first thing, (use umbral trap here if your taking too much damage) after this you should just start doing HOs and keep up your single target ward, if you got time you can use the dots you dont use in the HOs, and when you get low on power you just switch to keeping up single target ward and doing HOs with smite. Should be doable without any potions or odd stuff.

Seems you misunderstood what your dots are for, they are not damage spells, they are debuffs with a little bit of damage. Only using dot's will make it a very long fight and therefor you will use alot of power to heal yourself. A HO can be done in 4 sec and will hit for more then the sphere dot (cant remember name) does over time.

As the wards are bugged to ward pre migitation, your armor wont matter much if using this way either. :smileyvery-happy:

Pit champ(and any other solo-mob encounter) made easy:I am a lvl 50 defiler with average equipment, invoker robe, eboots and screaming mace being my most prised poseetions, much of my other armor is sadly green and grey to me. This strat lets me beat nearly any solo, single mob encounter while rarely droping below 40% health and 40% mana.FIRST: LEAD WITH GROUP WARD!!! Cast immediatly before pulling, most of the time my ward timer runs out before it obsorbs all the damage it can.NEXT: pull with stam debuffs, starting with atrophy, loathsome seal if you have it, then supporation. The order here is important: hit your HO before casting supporation to start off the HO, finish it with your Ruinous Imprecation or equivilent training spell. Now you want to kill him ASAP because your ward should be wearing off in the next few seconds, and you don't want to take too much damage or waste the time trying to cast such a long casting time spell that will probably be interupted. Apothic Corruption (or equivilent) next, I know its an AE, but the mitigation debuff is very nice! At 50 this raises my HO from 250-300 to the 300-400 range.Follow apothic corruption with Fuliginous Coil.Your HO should be refreshed by now so punch it! this should take your target down to about 40% where you can sit back and melee and watch DoT's kill it, or drop another HO to finish it off. In longer fights like the pit champ while waiting for the HO to refresh you can put in a few extra debuffs, re-ward, or heal, your choice.

This may sound sort of dumb but it really does work well. Instead of finishing off HO's with you biggest nuke try using your lv 3 smite spell. It will still land for 2-300 using basically no power at all. The extra dmg that the higher nukes give is nice, but in the end being able to do ho's while using very little power leaves all of you mana to heal, ward, and debuff as needed. With taht strategy i'm able to solo the roamer at the entrance in perma, while if i use highest nukes instead i run out of power far before i can do enough dmg to kill the mob.

Yeah, I use smite all the time (19 mana) to complete HOs soloing.

It lands at the same % of any high level spell. Go figure. Weakness lands on EPIC mobs too.

Contagion is also a good option. It does about 1/2 the damage of Suppuration, uses a different timer and is only a 1 second cast. Adds another DOT.

I was in the arena today, doing the solo arena, and got kicked hard twice. I found that it wasn't that I was all that weak, but that the interruptions were doing me in. Not sure if there are any secrets to decreasing those or not. I will agree that smite and grey wind are awesome to use...little power and still do the damage for the ho's.

At 25-27 I absolutely could *not* beat him, usually got 'im down to 50% or so and generally he was just about out of power. So finally giving up I called out, went to the broker (nothing no one's told you, just sharing) and bought about 3 or 4 diff types of orange-to-me potions. Mostly (+x power and increases power regen in combat for a li'l while) + heals you for X + a small damage shield stuff. OH and +power tier 3 food. Walked in and handed him his butt, prolly cost 5g or so to do it but hey now I've got favor. I'm NOT bragging. I'm NOT trying to start some sort of class war. I also realize that not all classes can solo equally well even if they are equally useful and valuable classes. HOWEVER just to share... *grin* my main Fury can walk in to the very difficult version of him and completely own him, no potions or anything. Granted he's very well geared (in a raiding guild, again I'm not bragging) - so for all I know a 50 Defiler would do just as well... or will when they factor mitigation into wards anyway.

Message Edited by darkshmoo on 08-01-2005 05:08 PM

I also use smite in my HOs when soloing, though using Imprecation spells isnt that bad every couple HOs because it has a debuff factor as well. Another way to win the all-important 'mana war' is to use Cure Noxious to negate his Aphotic Corruption (or whatever, depending on your level). When you cure the poison, he will immediately recast, or at least he does against me. You can drain his power away in no time using this method, and with your power still over 80%. You should be able to keep wards up against his melee and smite-HO him to death at that point. This is more of a battle of attrition than the 'quick-kill' strategy that others suggest, but it works for me. Good luck!

Mail of Souls for the win! But yes, keeping your power up is most important with this fight. Try buying some power pots.

Also use most of your 15 min recast spells such as eidolic ward, purulence, mail of souls as already stated, eerie avenger etc.

Message Edited by SmEaGoLLuM86 on 08-03-2005 01:30 PM

I didn't get to try champ pre lvl 46 since that's the lvl I was when the expansion came out. Until lvl 48 (purulence) he was tough but doable. At lvl 50 the very difficult champ is quite doable without potions. The emergency spells are the ticket to this fight. Here's what I do... Wait 5-10 seconds after initiating encounter and cast carrion shroud (group ward). This should finish just as champ appears. Next cast atrophy, loathsome seal, and suppuration to max debuff sta. Then cast abhorrence and umbral trap. This should have him nicely debuffed and your ward should be running out now. This is the time to cast purulence. While purulence is up do a HO. My HO chain goes like this...first cast ruinous imprecation. This spell lowers mob spell mitigation and makes the HO hit harder. Then initiate the HO and finish it with contagion and suppuration. Then get a fuligionous sphere in for some extra damage. By now purulence has worn off and your avengers have spawned. Now is the time to use mail of souls. Cast this spell and take some damage. This will drain his health fast while healing you for a bit. Your hp will go down but don't ward unless you have to as it cancels the damage shield component of mail. At this time you can also use devitalizing chant to suck the reat of the pit champs power and give it to you. At this point the fight should be almost over. I think today I will do this fight and record it so there's a video of this method for folks to see.
