<DIV>I was in Crypt of Betrayal the other night with my girlfriend killing oozes for the Scar-something axe quest in CoB. I was using my standard yard-trash pull and kill method of pulling with Mizzmog's, landing Fuliginous Sphere, and doing my solo HO while my girl's dirge amassed DPS from behind the mob. At some point I managed to get off Blessing of Faith as an HO. I have a feeling this is what it was, but I'm not sure. Anyway, every time I pulled a mob, within the first few seconds of battle, I would see a heal proc. The message I kept getting was "you heal YOURSELF for 18 points of damage!"</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Has anyone else seen this? Can anyone confirm what it is?</DIV>
Been seeing this too, since last patch. Not sure what it is. usually some amount of healing between 6-12 for me. The proc looks like a shadow that gets bigger and taller - hmmm, the same animation as when ya cast sinister countenace. Well...ok looked at my logs - I'm pretty sure its a proc part of a buff we have. (1109350484)[Fri Feb 25 11:54:44 2005] YOUR Umbral Drain hits a Runnyeye defiler for 11 points of disease damage.(1109350484)[Fri Feb 25 11:54:44 2005] YOU heal YOURSELF for 6 hit points. If I recall Umbral drain was added to one of the buff descriptions. Likely just never saw it before since heals were not logged or displayed in the text.

<DIV>Umbral drain is the proc from Curse of Shielding, but I wasn't using CoS.</DIV>

<DIV>You do know that both Malefic Shroud and Carrion Shield have Umbral Drain right? It's a tiny disease DD + heal. Happens when the ward gets broken. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>(seeping echar and spectral guard have it too)</DIV>
I do know that umbral drain is NOT the proc from curse of shielding - that spell is broke by the way. <blockquote><hr>Putka wrote:<DIV>You do know that both Malefic Shroud and Carrion Shield have Umbral Drain right? I'm only level 34, is Umbral drain on Dire effluence, DireShroud, Vehemance, or sinister contenace ? I checked the spell descriptions just a bit ago in game an didn't see it but I'm betting its undocumented on one of these. Only other buff I use is ...hmm... spirit of badger...I think LOL.I'm seeing it quite often, on myself and other group members. Its not when a ward is breaking. I've got it 3-4 times in less than 30 seconds before and saw it happen to other group members as well.I can tell the difrrence in the logs also:(110936999<img src="/smilies/b2eb59423fbf5fa39342041237025880.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />[Fri Feb 25 17:19:58 2005] Mirt's Umbral Drain hits a distorted nymph for 9 points of disease damage.(110936999<img src="/smilies/b2eb59423fbf5fa39342041237025880.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />[Fri Feb 25 17:19:58 2005] Mirt heals Mirt for 6 hit points.(110936999<img src="/smilies/b2eb59423fbf5fa39342041237025880.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />[Fri Feb 25 17:19:58 2005] Mirt is ravaged by the whipping winds! The above is a Umbral drain that just proc'ed without a ward.(110937000<img src="/smilies/b2eb59423fbf5fa39342041237025880.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />[Fri Feb 25 17:20:08 2005] Mirt's Umbral Drain hits a distorted nymph for 10 points of disease damage.(110937000<img src="/smilies/b2eb59423fbf5fa39342041237025880.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />[Fri Feb 25 17:20:08 2005] Mirt heals Mirt for 6 hit points.(110937000<img src="/smilies/b2eb59423fbf5fa39342041237025880.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />[Fri Feb 25 17:20:08 2005] Mirt's spectral guard disappears. And that one appears to be an umbral drain triggered by a breaking spectral guard.Hopefully this is the question the original poster was asking. What is causing the unexplained proc of Umbral drain ? I know its not the HO. I'm sure its not the ward breaking, at least not every time. Which buff is it, if its even a buff ?I know its not curse of shielding because right now that spell is healing and warding the MOB !

<DIV>I believe that if you have Spectral Guard or Malefic Shroud up, and you take dmg from a DoT, that Umbral drain will proc every time you take dmg, up to I suspect (though havn't confirmed) 10 times.</DIV>

<DIV>I'm not to sure if this i what casued your health regain but every class HO starter spell will heal the caster for a small amount of HP. for us its Divine Providence if u watch it, it will heal you depending on lvl for 10-34pts of health.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>as i said it might not be the case for your self on this occasion but there is that slim chance it might be. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

Noticed it too, pretty sure it is the ward (spectral ward) reacting to the damages that are going through.I didn't have the chance to count how many time such damage can tick before the ward fades, but I would bet a lot it is 10 as the patch message specified.A really poor way of fixing the ward issue if you ask me, but it does render SW more efficient as tested thoughout the weekend.

<DIV>I do also believe that in changing it to the 10 procs they NERFED the dmg from the proc. I beleive it used to be similar to the dmg done by Umbral Drain on the group wards (so a REASONABLE amount of dmg and heal). In changing it to the 10 hit thing, they nerfed the dmg from 70 or so (for Spectral Guard) to 13, and the heal from 35 or so to 7. They didn't anounce this, but I am almost POSITIVE that the proc on our single target wards used to be MUCH more potent.</DIV>

I don't use Spectral Ward or Spectral Guard. I sometimes use Everling's Cadaverous Ward (or whatever it's called), but I wasn't using ANY wards in this intance as the mobs were very, very grey.</DIV>
