There is alot of information on this board and it's good information. The problem comes when you try to locate information on a specific spell or spell line. If we can get a summary of what is working, Broken or unused due to bad spell design, I think we'll go along way to improving our class.</P> <DIV><BR></DIV> <P>I don't test well, I get in game and just go for broke with what I'm given. I know things aren't right, but I don't have the numbers etc. But who better to find and know what is wrong with Defiler spells than the Defiler community. So what I'm asking is for you to post below and state the spell name and the problems you find. Once we get a second similar opinion and get the problem isolated we'll list it.</P> <DIV><BR></DIV> <P>I'm going to leave my feelings and findings out of this, as I don't want it to be a biased list based upon my sole adventures, but rather a collection from the Defiler community. I'd try to keep opinions out of this, save for the unused spells portion. Please don't list a spell broken because you "feel" it should do something different. This is just to get spells doing at least do what they say they should be doing.</P> <DIV><BR></DIV> <P>I hope:</P> <DIV><BR></DIV> <P>1) This will provide future and upcoming Defilers a player based information system.</P> <DIV><BR></DIV> <P>2) This will provide Dev's the ability to see what the Defiler community has found.</P> <DIV><BR></DIV> <P>3) This should simplify and or reduce the number of questions about this spells amd their effects.</P> <DIV><BR></DIV> <P>4) Will allow us as a community to track changes and needed fixes as we see them.</P> <DIV><BR></DIV> <P><FONT color=#ff9900>I'm also going to go over the boards at time permits and add what has been written there. <DIV>Anyone have anything to add... I know if we develop a solid list that is easy to understand and community wide we can get the needed fixes implemented. At a minimum we can get a [FAAR-NERFED!] and we'll know were going to be like this for a while.</DIV>

<hr><blockquote>Curse of Shielding- BROKEN ( Wards Enemy MOB, stifles Caster ) </blockquote><hr>Only the training form of this stifles, not the normal version. Also add in that putrified balm and fetid balm put the proc buff part on the caster instead of the target.

Well I believe thats down to a "resist" roll that happens every now and then throughout a duration, I think its designed to keep you on your toes but I can see why you are complaining. Still I'd consider that more of a "balance" issue than a "broken" issue.

<DIV>For Loathsome Seal, the only difference in description between app4 and adept 1 is the adept 1 version takes 1 more power to cast.  Also spell doesn't state it debuffs stamina in bottom decription, although it claims to in top text description.  The stamina debuffing seems to be a problem with all our skills that claim to debuff it tho.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Purulence doesn't always summon pets after it breaks.  I haven't noticed exactly why yet.  Before if it broke to a dot the pets would not get summoned, but sometimes even when it expires to melee damage the pets are not summoned.  If it runs out to timer pets won't get summoned, which seems fair enough to me.  I suspect being a group ward it's still suffering the same problems as our normal group line.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Tendrils line still only lasts for 3 minutes, seems this should be on the 10-15 timer too.  A note to the slows, why do defilers need to stack 3 spells to achieve the same as one mystic?  And one of those spells is a 5% proc chance dependent on group members being hit when our healing ability is supposed to be all about stopping hits before they happen.... makes little sense.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Seems there was a few more things, little to early for me to remember tho.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>- Scain</DIV>

The lvl 20 Training DoT.. I'm sorry I can't remember the name, states that it reduces INT and Stamina as an added bonus yet in spell info doesn't reduce stamina.

<DIV>Do we know what health loss does yet? Has there been an actual "press release" as to what health loss does to a mob?  I know we have several spells that deal damage and remove health.  My theory is its a permanent form of damage (aka stamina debuff but gimped), and when I say permanent I only mean until the spell wears off.  Of course I have no proof of this and it could mean absolutely nothing.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If anyone knows please let me know....</DIV>

"They already know Wards are not nearly as efficient as other Heals!"This is sommething I wonder about, I've been looking all over these boards but I can't find a single DEV reply indicating this is a known issue or sommething they are aware of that needs fixing. The only reply I could find was about wards breaking in one hit and the so called fix for that.<p>Message Edited by haasch on <span class=date_text>02-25-2005</span> <span class=time_text>09:19 AM</span>

<DIV>when i was very low in the first few days a stamina debuff would lower overall HP.  thats why it looked like mobs healed themselves when a stamina buff wore off i think.  they have disabeled stamina debuffs or nerfed the hell out of them.  </DIV>

Standing ovation!! Very admirable work here. I look forward to seeing how this list progresses.I've found that whenever I cast Summon Food & Water, I consistently get 5 units each of "sacred sustenance" (bland cheese & puddle water). This spell appears to be working.<p>Message Edited by Buggity on <span class=date_text>02-25-2005</span> <span class=time_text>11:23 AM</span>

<DIV>From what I am reading most of you think Wards are fixed or didnt state that they are.  I have adept 3 spectral guard, and i might as well use app 1 it drops in seconds.  How is that even near as good as a reactive heal?  I think wards are completely useless and since this new patch i barely play my defiler because im sick of being a second class healer.  I know "you should do with what you have" but why play a class that their defining trait is useless?  I have a level 38 defiler and I love!!! this class but.... I cant take constantly out done by a cleric class.  I mean I get groups and I can do fine... but I dont want fine, I want the potential to be the best like eveveryone else.  When we fight a grouped mobs 3 or more how can we keep up with that many hits without a cleric type?  Even with 2 shaman classes you have to chain heal to keep up with reactive heals.  This is just my 2 cents and Im sure not all of you agree, I just figured since we are talking about broker things for a defiler this needed to be said.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thank for you time and please let me know your experiences with ward, post patch I am far from statisfied.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

Malestrom of Decay -- From what i understand (I'm only level 47) this spell is absolutly USELESS as it only does 50dmg a tick to each mob, and considering Aphotic Corruption does 95ish damage to each mob, who in their right mind would use this spell.-Geo

<DIV>Yeah, Purulance works fine for me.  Sometimes it does not work because there is a stacking issue with high level templar spells and wards but when a mob breaks that ward a bunch of little mobs pop and attack.  Its a great spell.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Loathsome Seal is bugged.  If resisted you can insta recast, and if it lands you can recast instantly.  When it wears off is when the recast timer kicks in.  So unless you reapply it before it wears off you have that 6 or 7 sec recast timer to wait on.  I think it should work like atrophy but it does not.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Also I would really like a bullet point up top to see if:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Strength is really having the effect it is supposed to.  Most of our debuffs are related to lowering Str and therefor DMG output.  With the strength changes that went in on mobs and players I think we are really getting short changed in the debuff department.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Stacking issues are a concern of mine also.  We have no way to test that really till some sort of arena function is added.  I really want to know if my atrophy stacks with the mystic slow in any way.  Does it take his 35% and my big STR debuff but ignore my slow or do we get to 45% slow?</DIV>

<DIV>Hehe using Purulence since december last year, I can guarantee that it's either not working the way it should all the time, or the description needs to have added: "has a 75% chance of summoning..".</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Sometimes it just plain doesn't work. You get hit, it gets broken (you hear the usual sound effect and animation with it) but no Shadow Avengers spawn. This happens while grouping with others or solo.. it doesnt matter. But something's telling me that it doesnt work if it gets broken by a magic damage attack. Kinda hard and annoying to test <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Loathsome Seal isnt bugged. It's a uhh "focus debuff" or whatever you wanna call it. Every class has a spell or two that work this way.. for example "Allay" with Guardians. It's a single party member buff, and if you let it run out, the re-cast timer will kick in. But if you recast it just before it expires, you dont have to wait for the timer hehe <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> This has its advantages and disadvantages.. you pointed out one good thing about it- if it's resisted, you get to re-cast it straight away. The only bad thing is, you mustn't let it expire, or you'll wait 10 secs before recasting <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I also want duels simply to test out hundreds of undocumented things <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

<DIV>My friend and I both quit playing EQ2 because the spells are so difficult to obtain at the current level of the character. The crafting system is BORING, tedious and time consuming so we gave up trying to make them. Pretty much, this game stinks and mostly because of spells. Running around with spells far lower than what you need so you can not fight the appropriate level mob is NO fun. So I am back to playing EQ.</DIV>

<DIV>I play a mystic, so I hope that I am not hijacking this thread, but over on the Mystic boards, the concensus is that wards are the #1 problem facing every Shaman out there.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Wards black unmitigated damage.  So while a druid's hots or a Cleric's reactives only have to heal damage that is unmitigated by armor, a shaman's ward blocks before mitigation.  With most plate tanks mitigating in the 60-70% range, you can see that the shaman has to work much harder, and expend much more power, to effectively heal a tank.  With the new changes to agro, I shudder when thinking of the beatdown that we will recieve, since we will have to cast 3 - 4 wards for every 1 hot or reactive to achieve the same amount of raw "healing."</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Again, sorry if this is percieved as hijacking, but I think that the ward mechanics are generally universal to all shaman/mystics/defilers.  Good luck to everyone in getting this changed.  </DIV>

It's fantastic that an official has given us a response. Perhaps they suspect Defilers do not work as intended...When I log onto these forums, this is the section I visit the most (surprise, I play a Defiler!). However, there are two great posts under the "Spells, Abilities, and Combat Arts" section that are getting buried by other posts. They are:"Defiler compiles issues..." a repeat of this very thread, and"Defiler issues MUST be addressed post-patch!" a long thread that already has seen a lot of attentionI have 5-starred both of these threads and try to keep each one near the top by posting every now and then. I hope other Defilers are doing this as well otherwise our issues become relegated to the 2nd or, even worse, the 3rd page in very little time. If our issues are not seen by a more general audience, they tend to forget about us, which is a bad thing. Remember, "Out of sight, out of mind"

I had the same problem with Vehemence...I upgraded from AppII to AdeptI and the stamina and strength each went up 2 or 3 pts apiece. I do not tradeskill and have a little in the way of money so it ended up a waste of 5 gp. Unfortunately, it seems that upgrading many of our spells leaves us with underwhelming results, even when it happens to be to Mastery level.

While fighting some Elder Mist Grinnins in Nek today, I realized that the MOB version of Grey Wind DOES slow its target. I had the effect "grey winds" on me after the mob went through the Grey Wind animation and I was nailed by the nuke. It stayed on me for the duration of the fight. Hhowever, when I examine MY version of Grey Wind now, intead of mentioning the debuff, it says "### Error: Possible spell recursion ###". What's up with that?

<DIV>Found this post on the Spell board.  Sounds like ward are a high priority topic.  Every class had a "my spells are broken..." thread on the Spells, Abilities and Combat Arts board.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>==============</DIV> <DIV> <DIV>We neither seek to keep players in the dark nor to protect information on what will or won't be fixed. While I can understand that not seeing something fixed that you consider important is upsetting, please don't be so quick to assume we have some sort of illicit motive or evil agenda. Our team takes communication seriously, and we are going to work harder at making it more consistent.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>We'd love for everything in the game to work perfectly, and more than that, for every feature to be met with approval by all our subscribers. Of course, the latter in particular is an unrealistic desire. Even if there wasn't a single bug in this game, players would still disagree about whether aspects of the game were "right" or not based on their personal beliefs and desires.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>There are often posts about how frustrating it is that bugs end up in the game, even after our QA department and external testers go through the features or content. We do work very hard to test new things added to the game, yet we can't test every possible case or circumstance that hundreds of thousands of players might uncover. That said, when bugs happen it is our responsibility, and we strive to fix them as soon as possible. Look through every one of the notes from our Live Updates (and most of the smaller hotfix updates as well) and you'll see that we address numerous issues on a regular basis.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>We realize that some classes are upset about balance issues that haven't been addressed since launch. There are legitimate concerns, and while we have made progress in this area, many elements still need to be looked at. The community team gathers your class issues and feedback on a daily basis as part of our reports to the team, and I (along with Blackguard and Faarwolf) spend a lot of time with members of other departments discussing bugs, opinions, and ideas expressed on these boards and other community sites.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>One of the things we've realized is that it's nearly an impossible task for a handful of people (i.e. the community team) to respond to every bug or issue that gets posted. That's why you're going to see more members of the EQ2 team (specifically, the ones who fix a bug or address balance issues) posting about what they're doing. We really do want to improve the way communication flows from the team to the players.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>A big topic that will never go away (just see any EQ board for proof of that) is class balance. This is true not only because the game evolves, but because players develop an emotional investment in their characters. That attachment can make it hard for some players to objectively separate real issues from gut reaction.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Our initial approach with class balance has been to first look at issues on the archetype level. Changes to agility and strength, for instance, were necessary to bring scouts and fighters more in line with where we want them to be. Secondly, we've been fixing bugs with spells and combat arts, because you can't judge the full potential of a given profession if their abilities are not functioning correctly. At the same time, we've addressed some clearly broken aspects of particular classes that simply couldn't be ignored. In the case of berserkers, this meant a reduction in potency; in the case of wizards and warlocks, this meant a considerable increase.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Among the balance issues we'll be looking into now and in the near future:</DIV> <UL> <LI>Summoner pets, including the usefulness of various types of pets and the overall DPS and utility of mages. <LI><STRONG><U><EM><FONT color=#66ff00 size=6>Priest balancing, including: wards vs. reactives vs. regens, both for effectiveness and aggro generation; warden vs. fury balance, etc. </FONT></EM></U></STRONG> <LI>Evaluating melee damage to ensure that scouts outdamage fighters. <LI>Giving every artisan profession new and useful things to make, as well as ways to make their existing goods more desirable.</LI></UL> <P>(If I didn't list your class or issue above, please don't assume we are ignoring you. Those are just a few of the big-picture balance issues we're looking at, not a comprehensive list.)</P> <P>And yes, we will continue to fix bugged spells and arts. But keep in mind that even when we get to the point where nearly every ability functions correctly, there will still be people on the boards who feel that particular aspects of their class are broken or imbalanced. That's simply a fact of MMO life: there will never, ever be a massively multiplayer game of this complexity in which every subscriber feels all aspects are balanced. Because, at the end of the day, balance is not a matter of numbers, but one of perception. These games are not math equations, no matter how many calculations lurk below the surface. They're living, breathing microcosms into which thousands and thousands of players make varying degrees of emotional investment.</P> <P>Our job, then, is not just "find bug A, fix bug A, report bug A is fixed," but rather to respond to you on a personal, direct level. It's something we continually strive to do better, both on the community team and as a company. At the same time, we know that ultimately the proof comes not in our words, but in our actions. That's why we will keep on doing what we're doing: adding new stuff, making fixes, expanding the game world. We'll make mistakes, but we'll work hard to fix them. Hopefully if we keep on doing that, more and more of you will see that we're serious about making EverQuest II the best game we possibly can. Your feedback is a crucial part of that process, and it makes a difference in the development of this game every single day.</P> <P>===========================<BR>Moorgard<BR>EverQuest II Community Guy</P> <P> </P> <P>EDIT: I really fail to see how this posts deserves the 1-star bandit??</P></DIV><p>Message Edited by sostrows on <span class=date_text>03-15-2005</span> <span class=time_text>07:27 AM</span>

If anyone has taken off all their armor when in wraith form, you'll notice that its a see-through purple mist with no features. Putting the armor back on may look like generic human male armor, however human males are the most featureless models, hence why people assume their race changed.  The wraiths we currently have are not defined by anything.. race, gender, hair etc, and I see nothing wrong with that. It makes it all the more mysterious and allows for much greater rp oppertunities. I quite enjoy going from small female rat, to chilling spectre. I know Im going against most of the community here, but there are many ways to look at things, and I think some people dont try and see that. <div></div>

<DIV>I barely ever use the wraith form, but when I do I think it looks really good with mah purple robe!  I guess biggest problem is the gendor.  The rest of it I don't mind.  I don't think they will ever change the overall graphics because it really comes down to opinion.</DIV>

<P>I use the wraith form all the time for the stat increase! What I do though is cast Guise of Deceiver before I cast the wraith form to mask the ugly Human Male form and keep my sleek hottie DE Female form. I also find that the wraith form makes me lag like crazy so using guise helps get rid of those effects</P>

I dont see any hair on my char in wraith form, but its possible they dont all use the same model. But as I said.. its not a human male.. its a non-featured mist-like humanoid form with no gender. You simply assume its male due to the lack of breasts. Thats the part you can RP around. Its genderless in appearance according to me. <div></div>

Revulsion works.  -23 to three stats at Adept1 but only works on mobs lvl 35 or below.

<P>I'm with you on this 11B3VB4.  I would rather have lots of info on game mechanics, specifics.  I'm just pointing out that I think the lvl limit on spells was always there from the start, it just wasnt explained to us (like about 3000 other things) from day 1.</P> <P>BTW, you still have your /respec in the bank? or was there a time limit on using that?</P>

I really think our "of shielding" lines should be Unused until something is taken in to balance wards... Otherwise (like I commented in my other post, it's likely to be more harmful than helpful)

Maybe they will address it in LU #7 with the other changes... if not I agree.. it's not worth the mana nor the risk...

The reason why is because I cant tell you how many times I hit the mob, he goes running for 20 seconds, wanders into a new group of mobs and when the fear fades, it pisses off everyone around him! <DIV>As a member of a guild that has killed every raid mob cept Naggy and that buggy Nekt' Vampire Instance, I can say defilers for the most part are just fine. We might need a tweak here and there to fix some things that dont work as much as they should. The only issue with giving us this is mystics would grab the torches and pitchforks and go after SOE i think, so might have to balance and give them something as well, or just drop the 10% slow part off our "slow debuff".
