I have a 35 mystic. Im starting to waver a little in why i should continue it as my main. My problem is that that i played a shaman in EQ1 and have played a shaman in every game i have ever played, atleast as the main. The shaman in WoW, EQ1 and the upcoming vanguard are all exactly what i want. A light DPS class that heals and has many uses. A role filler. Not the best at everything, but able to do man things pretty well. Jack of all trades is a consistent theme in all shaman i have played, where as the role in EQ2 seems to be pretty much healer, that cant survive without a group.EQ2 shaman seem to be merely a disguised cleric. Instead of having direct heals and HoT's like in EQ1, we have wards/runes. Now this is a interesting way to heal, im not saying its horrible. But when i made the mystic, i had the shaman from EQ1 and pretty much every other game in mind. I cant solo anything at all. I mean easy blues can kick my butt. I dont really see what i offer the group, the buffs are mediocore it seems. I dont have anything thats special or unique or even cool. I cant even canibalize. I would think i would atleast have something that would take the life from me and give it to the party in the from of power.I guess im just lost. This isnt the shaman i knew or have known in any game. I love shaman, i love what they are, but i need help gaining a perspective that allows me to fully enjoy this class cause i feel really weak compared to roles i have always played. I feel that if i wanted to truly fufill my role as a shaman in eq2, i should have roled a cleric or perhaps a druid. I guess im hoping someone is gonna tell me there is a class review coming or something or if nothing else can share with me why they love the mystic so much so i can have something to grab on too.Thank you for any replies.<div></div>

<DIV>I can tell you what I like about being a shaman in eq2 (mystic is what I am but there are many traits we share with defilers).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>We can pretty much top a heal parse almost any time we choose to (nature of our wards)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Slowing mobs, knocking off their dps, dropping their sta/str, dropping their resists vs. noxious and elemental, dropping their attack skills (more important now).  Is more like visiting the EQ1 days of the shaman where they slow'ed mobs <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>At your level, str buffs will help a tank/dps class a lot.  Sta will help a tank a lot.  We give lots of both.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Facts of life about being a mystic:  We aren't going to speed kill anything.  Even the best dps build with aa's and twinking out augs is going to leave you wanting in your dps.  We aren't built for it.  When you say easy blues kick your butt.  Is that blue heroics?  Is that blue 1 ups?  Is that a pack?  Learn your targets.  We can actually solo fairly well in the sense of not dying and eventually killing a mob.  You just run the risk of falling asleep before it is dead.  I'm raid geared mind you, so I have a bit of an advantage there, but prior to the combat changes, I could solo my way around poa without too much trouble.  Multiples would kill me, but if I single pulled I could kill pretty much any white con or less in there.  (70 heroics)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>In the end though, if you aren't having fun, perhaps you should look for greener pastures.  No amount of pep-talking is going to change that.  Sit down, ask yourself, am I having fun with this class?  And if the answer is no, switch.  I will say this though.  As a mystic you can get groups extremely easy.  So while you may be more group reliant then you would like, getting one is normally not too much of a problem.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

In EQ2, you can't be both. For soloing, combined with good group dps, nothing beats a conjurer or Necro.</div>

<P>The EQ1 shaman does not exist in EQ2. At least not in the guise of a Mystic. I loved my EQ1 shaman. I like my EQ2 shaman too, but not nearly as much.</P> <P>I don't know if the fury is a true exception to this, but in EQ2 the healers are basically all just EQ1 clerics (subjective opinion).</P> <P>For versatility I later on made a conjurer and I 'm having a lot more fun with it. I like to be able to do more than one thing (as the EQ1 shaman excelled at), and to me the Conjuror fits that bill a lot better than the one trick pony the Mystic is (debuffs are seldom needed against none epics). I'm sure that other classes would work just as well as a conjuror in my case, it was just happenstance that I picked one.</P> <P>Note that this is from a grouping/solo perspective. The Mystic can only work in one of those two environments (subjective opinion).</P> <P>To me there are three spheres of game play.<BR>Raid, group and solo.</P> <P>The mystic is great in Raids (or so I hear) and in a group. Sucks solo though. To me as a none raider (by choice, I play enough hours, but I never found it entertaining), the Mystic becomes very limited. So I picked a class that works well solo and in a group.</P> <P>After this rambling I would conclude that the mystic is a great class for what it does. It has nothing in common with the EQ1 shaman though. Not sure any EQ2 class can fill as many roles as the EQ1 shaman can, but Mystic is definately almost as far away as you can get in this game (again, subjective opinion).</P> <P> </P>

<DIV>I feel your pain.  Froma pvp aspect, this class just blows (I have no doubt that someone REAL familiar with it might do fine). I have been on Venekor since Feb and anyway, yea, I gave up on my mystic already and I loved her so it really sucks.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I love the class and how it operates in pve...really cool class.   For pvp though, just a big old sad face.        In groups you are ok, but you can not always be in a group.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Anyways, good luck but I have put my lovely little mystic on ice until the dev's can realize that the class needs a little loving.</DIV>

<P>That's what I thought when I saw someone had necro'd an old post where he was asking about getting to GFay.</P> <P>Anyway, the soloing isn't fast, but my Defiler has made it to 36 very part-time. My gear is mostly junk except one drop from Runnyeye, but he's a Sage and I like to harvest so all his spells are Adept 3. This is very important I think, and could help you a lot. The Defiler will never win a speed contest, but he's darn hard to kill.</P> <P>Hope you're enjoying the game</P>

<div></div>Perhaps the AAs will help, but when I was leveling I remember 35 being the signal of a steep downward slope in soloing speed. <div></div><p>Message Edited by Eepop on <span class=date_text>12-22-2006</span> <span class=time_text>12:17 PM</span>

My main is a 70 warden, I heal, I nuke.  My alt is a 70 Mystic, I debuff, I ward, i nuke, I send the pet in, I can make the pet do his attacks then I can do it all over again!  Maybe I look at it from a different perspective because warden is really a healer that is time oriented not task oriented.  And mystic buffs are awesome, Sta/hp for the tank, STR and haste for the scouts, STA for the mages, and with AAs you can add wis and int onto your single agi/str/sta buff making it a universal buff.  I think mystics are awesome.  Debuffs, no other class in the game debuffs sta like a mystic, and all the attack speed debuffs... well... trust me, those are really nice too.  Soloing, its always gonna be slow from what i've seen, hit it with a couple of sta debuffs and attack speed then dot it and let the dog go, thats what i do anyhow.  <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />  But if you dont like it, reroll, but no healer that i've played ((fury, warden, mystic, defiler, inquisitor)) can do everything..
