<font color="#ffff33"><i>Howdy folks.  Ive been playing the shaman role since EQ1 and its by far my favorite class next to my warriors.  Ive managed to plug my way up to lvl 22 and now, its just tedious to say the least.  Most of my fights start out with my standard debuff adept 1 which frequently gets resisted, followed by warding myself and then 4 to five bouts of heroic ops ie sickness and gray wind, both adept 1 and both get resisted more often then not.  I know folks say get adept III's but they are few and very far between.  I tend to solo a bit more then group and I understand that grouping would make things much easier.  I guess what Im asking is it even a viable option to solo my mystic or should I have gone Defiler?  I enjoy the class a great deal but I get resisted so much Im beggining to wonder.  I really appreciate all the help I can get about now.  If I wanted a snooze fest Id have made a Templar.</i></font><div></div>

No offence to you healers and mystics and defilers in general, but I dont know how you guys can play that class...Soloing with them is as much fun as having my fingers slammed in a car door over and over again.  Talk about a snooze fest.. My hats off to you guys serriously.  Im gonna stick to my tanks and scouts...Best of luck guys.<div></div>

<P>You've probably made the right choice as a mystic is a support class, thus best suited in a group environment. If soloing is your thing, then mystic (or any healer for that matter) is not for you.</P> <P>Good luck with your DPS class.</P>

Do not dispair.  Your casting skills are probably just not maxed.  With the rapid rate of leveling up to 20ish, its easy to have your skills not be maxed. Having your casting skills maxed is VITAL to not getting resisted.  These skills include: Ministration (Healing Spells) Disruption (Damage Spells) Ordination (Debuff and Buff Spells) Subjugation (Control Spells...Very few mystic spells, this one can mostly be ignored for us) For soloing, you really want to have your disruption and ordination maxed. Also, there is another skill related to casting that is very important: Focus.  Focus plays a role in resisting getting interrupted and in not fizzling while casting spells. Get those skills maxed and you should have a more enjoyable expirience. <div></div>

Answers can still be good for when someone else is searching on this topic...because you know...everyone always searches before asking a question. <span>:smileywink:</span> <div></div>

<DIV>My casting order for soloing goes something like this...</DIV> <DIV>(btw, I also have my AA pet up, but did this even before AA were introduced to the game)</DIV> <DIV>1) Self ward, usually with the group ward cause of the higher amount of damage it can take while I am casting the inital round of spells. Also, I can target the mob before casting the group ward. With the single ward, I would have to target self first then switch my targeting to the mob. It just saves you the time and hassle of retargeting.</DIV> <DIV>2) I then cast both STA debuffs we have (single and AoE) to reduce target's health by the maximum effect. This also makes the pull for you.</DIV> <DIV>3) Next is one of my melee slow spells. Depending how far from the mob you were when you casted the first STA debuff, the mob will arrive about the time this spell lands. (This is also when I'll hit the auto attack key to start meleeing at the same time the MOB arrives)</DIV> <DIV>4) Hit the HO starter and go to town on the MOB. As mentioned before, try using the two DOTs to set off your first HO. This lets both DOTs tick off health while you cycle your DD and any other spells you need/want to cast.</DIV> <DIV>5) I'll use the the DD to start off my second HO..after this, a lot of variation will come into play. Depending how you set up your toon with gear, AA, potions, available spells based on level and recast timers, etc and the special abilities of the mob you are fighting (though this is often a minor thing unless it is chewing through your ward faster than anticipated). yadda yadda yadda. From here you'll just have to play with the casting order until you find what suits you.</DIV> <DIV>    a) How early in the fight to cast Bolster (when you get it)(Has the reuse timer even expired)</DIV> <DIV>    b) I'll often cast slothful spirit between starting the first HO and casting the first DOT to increase the target's power cost and apply additional damage. This also provides my HO the a couple extra moments to tick off its reuse timers while I am proactively casting some spell (which makes me feel better). Think you don't get this spell until around lvl 55, so, didn't include it in the casting order above.</DIV> <DIV>    c) When to send in your pet? Since my pet isn't tough, I don't like to let it tank (personal preference) and don't let it join in on the fight until after I started the first HO. With wards, I'll live longer than the puppy will. And, it is easier to watch the ward timer on myself than it is on my pet. Like I said, this is a personal preference.</DIV> <DIV>    Variations:</DIV> <DIV>1) Sometimes I want to make a long pull, cause I am lazy or the mob is too difficult to reach otherwise, I'll group ward and send in the pet to make the pull for me. As soon as the fight starts, recall the pet to you. When mob gets in range, start the debuffs and continue with your preferred casting order. I'll keep the pet out of it long enough until I pulled the agro off the pet, doesn't take long.</DIV> <DIV>2) I've played with casting all my STR/STA/Mitigation debuffs before starting in with my damage spells, but find this is overkill. Takes too long to cast them all at once. Most mobs will die without casting all these. It is a waste of power. Waste to cast them all at once when I could instead just alternate between them and the damage spells so I am not sitting idle waiting for a recast timer and can maintain the debuffs on the mob (for longer fights) if I don't have to cast them all at the same time a second time. Again, you'll find your own personal prefence on mixing in these spells to your casting order.</DIV> <DIV>3) I've tested various buffs on my pet to toughen it up, even wasted Bolster on it, just to see what difference it makes.</DIV> <DIV>    Anyways, in the end, you'll find your own preference. Steps 1-5 listed above is what I use as my standard/base casting order. I have deviated from it as needed. Yet, it works in most cases. Don't care if others find this right or wrong. It works for me. If you find it works for you, glad I could help. </DIV> <DIV>    Also, strongly recommend you get your spells to Adept III at every level. They are simply more effective that way. They get resisted less often, too (especially if you are chaining your spells in your preferred casting order). Leaving your attack and "heal" spells at adept I just makes the game harder than it needs to be for you while leveling up.</DIV> <DIV>    Good Luck,</DIV> <DIV>      Volaz 70 Mystic</DIV>

<DIV>I have a level 70 mystic and I've compiled a 20-step guide to soloing.  So, here it goes</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1) Don't do it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If you have to do it, here's some more tips:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2) Wait till the monster is grey con to you</DIV> <DIV>3) Get a book, perhaps War and Peace</DIV> <DIV>4) Start attacking the monster</DIV> <DIV>5) Read chapter 1 of your book</DIV> <DIV>6) Make sure some twit hasn't trained any other real aggro monsters on to you</DIV> <DIV>7) Go use the restroom.  While on pot, read chapter 2.</DIV> <DIV><img src="/smilies/b2eb59423fbf5fa39342041237025880.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> It's quite possible you still may not be done killing this monster so if you haven't then maybe try an H.O or two so people don't think you're a bot</DIV> <DIV>9) If book is interesting, continue on to chapter 3, if not, maybe do some dishes.</DIV> <DIV>10) Check for more twits</DIV> <DIV>11) Ahh, now you have killed the first one in the group and you realize that was 20 minutes ago so move on to the next one.</DIV> <DIV>12) Begin the next chapter in the book</DIV> <DIV>13) See who's winning the ballgame.  If it's a good game, watch whole game.</DIV> <DIV>14) By now you've run out of giggleberry juice so drink more and also check to make sure there still aren't twits training creatures into you</DIV> <DIV>15) Do obligatory HO's</DIV> <DIV>16) Go to bed</DIV> <DIV>17) Dream about having a real shaman who could fight.  Maybe make it a female shaman in your dream but please don't tell me the details.</DIV> <DIV>1<img src="/smilies/b2eb59423fbf5fa39342041237025880.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Wake up, make sure your computer hasn't crashed, then freshen up.</DIV> <DIV>19) You may have actually won by now if it was a three arrow down soloable grey con.  If not, just yell for help and zone out.</DIV> <DIV>20) Go to character creation screen and roll a berserker.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Hope this helps! </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>Actually I have a lvl 70 Fury which I soloed atleast 85% and I have a Guard (boring) Bezerker(Fun) and now a Mystic @ lvl 15 and I find him very easy to solo, and with the damage wards I find him even easier to solo then my Fury at that same lvl. If you like your tank class, have fun, but if you really think you gave it your best shot as healer soloist, and still didn't like it, then this class is not for you. Anyone can heal, but it takes a good player to heal solo and protect a grp whenever required.</DIV>

Soloing a mystic at 15 is in no way representative of soloing a mystic through all levels. 1-25 is kinda fun 25-35ish arent that bad 35-70 are hell 70 with the right AAs isnt that bad <div></div>

<BR> <BLOCKQUOTE> <P>1) You should be warding yourself Before the fight, don't wait until the fight is underway to do your first ward.  For a tough fight do both group then single wards.</P> <P><FONT color=#ffff00>Agreed but I tended to only drop the group ward at the beginning due to its longer cast time, leaving the ST ward for later.</FONT></P> <P>2)  Adept III's you can have made and it will be cheaper that way too, you don't need to wait until you see one on the market.  Harvest until you get the rare or buy it, then ask for a Sage in level chat or check for someone LFW or ask in the crafting channel.</P> <P><FONT color=#ffff00>Be careful about wasting money here as you are levelling so quickly that you may grow out of these spells quicker than you might imagine. Also look ahead at what is available at M2 level. Don't make an adept 3 only to have it available for free at the next level.</FONT></P> <P>3) For your first HO you can combine two DoTs (cold and disease) for your first one.  I don't know what you have at level 22, if you don't have two DoTs yet you will soon.  Then in combination with your one DD nuke you use the 3 spells at Adept III to spam HOs more effectively:  Less resists and more damage from each spell.</P> <P><FONT color=#ffff00>After the initial ward then debuff pull I tend to spam HO's. Cold DOT/AOE Nuke then Poison DOT/ST nuke. Throw in the ST ward as necessary and you should rarely need to heal.</FONT></P> <P>4) As you level up you will gain tools (spells and AA abilities).  Having your debuffs Adept III also it will be resisted less and you can keep your best debuff up.  The DPS debuff when you get it is longer lasting.  Then you can spend less time healing yourself and more time attacking.</P> <P><FONT color=#ffff00>Resists can also be dependent on your skill levels as well as the level of your spells. Interrupts can and will kill you so you assess whether you need to improve your attack skills too.</FONT></P> <P>5) You should have your first AA point by now so you have your dog.  Make sure to set it on full manual and send it in after you have good aggro.  The added DPS will make fights go quicker.</P> <P><FONT color=#ffff00>I would also recommend the STA line (I think) that gives you shield bash. This is so useful for interrupting annoying mobs. I concentrate solely on the this and the WIS line. It presupposes a one handed weapon and buckler but it so aids soloing at lower levels.</FONT></P> <P>6) Have fun.</P> <P><FONT color=#ffff00>Ditto</FONT></P><BR></BLOCKQUOTE>
