View Full Version : Armor for a Mystic

I've been enjoying my Mystic quite a bit, but now that I'm hitting the 30s, I'm starting to look to upgrade the pieces of armor I got from Selwyn's Armor Quests. But although I've managed to save up a fair bit of coin, the prospect of spending virtually all of it on some Feysteel chain isn't all that enticing. Whether this is universal to all servers, or just mine, I've noticed Woven Engraved (mastercrafted stamina/wisdom leather armor) is insanely more affordable than feysteel chain. And beyond that, the next tier of mastercrafted wisdom chain and wisdom leather seems to have a similar disparity in cost. Is it worth losing a bit of mitigation while leveling up (almost exclusively grouping while I level) in order to save some coin?

Up to lvl50 you'll do just fine in common crafted armor, Feyiron Chain for your tier not sure if you can get the brigandine version at that tier but if you can that is great option, save the money for later

All this totally depends on how fast you are leveling. For instance, when I leveled my Illusionist alt, he spent a grand total of 15 hours between the levels of 30 and 40. I didn't even bother with anything that didn't drop.If you level quickly, worry a lot less about armor until L50. At L50, the curve slows down a lot, and armor means more.

If you are grouping, mitigation means much less. If the tank is good enough, your mitigation won't matter at all.

I agree, save your money until after 50. I would suggest upgrading occasionally on the way there of course, but don't blow all your money on a certain tier armor that you'll soon outgrow, Like said a few posts up you may want to look for options other than the typical Imbued gear, such as brigadine, reverant, and melodic (at least on butcherblock) they run a fair ammount cheaper.
Message Edited by Loki9s on 09-13-2006 10:09 AM

Like others said, if you are leveling fast and in groups, just take what gear comes your way. If you are grouping mostly I don't see any reason why to even worry much about upgrading from your armorquest stuff. It is about equivalent to the rare t3 which you really can't really get an upgrade to unless you get t4 rare armor or good dropped stuff. Soloing and duoing your armor will be more important. If you are doing the 'combat xp off leveling off of quests things' you might consider spending a bit more on your gear.

Also buying armor direct from the broker almost always costs a ton more than getting the rare yourself and asking a crafter to make the item for you. A bit more involved, but if you are concerned about cash, that is the way to do it.

Message Edited by Calendri on 09-13-2006 01:54 PM

Little point in getting feysteel - leave that to the ego-ridden tanks..... the woven rare armour is pretty cheap until you hit t6 then scaled leather seems to get a bit rarer. Check it is a meaningful mana/wis upgrade - my 40 fury is still wearing a piece of lvl12 armour as all the later stuff is still really close in stats. Other stats don't really matter unless you love the tedium of mystic soloing....

unless you are on a PvP server, just get your wis and power up as high as you can. If you do play on PvP, then armor plays a factor at all levels
