View Full Version : What gets thru a ward?
<DIV>I play a mystic monk duo. Both level 49. I have noticed alot that my monk is losing health even with the ward still up. So my question is what type of damage gets through? I have tested without the monk self haste to make sure, but it seems something is hurting him. Do wards absorb all damage or only certain types?</DIV> <DIV>Thanks</DIV> <DIV>Hypez</DIV> <DIV>49 Mystic </DIV> <DIV>Mistmoore</DIV>

Some monk attacks use health instead of power, that's why his/her hp still drops when you have warded <div></div>

Plus any DoT effects that are on BEFORE you cast the Ward will still do health damage.<div></div>

Wards absorb all kinds of physical damage, and the damage portion of trauma skills and AE's. Wards can absorb other types of damage like elemental and arcane, but not reliably, and I don't know if wards are <i>intended</i> to absorb ALL forms of damage in practice, even though ward spell descriptions state that they absorb "all damage".<div></div>

The Mystic Mitigation buff's Ward only protects against physical damage, while the Defiler's only protects against magical damage. Additionally, there are temporary buffs for the Templar and the Warden which protects against Arcane and Elemental respectively only. There are also potions available which grants a Ward for damage of specific types. The Shaman main lines of Wards, however, do protect against all damage.<div></div>

<DIV>Monks have a self increasing haste buff which drains HP per tick. Also as stated before they have attacks that drain HP instead of mana to use. These you know. At lvl 51on my monk, with the self buff that drains HP for haste at M2 and using my attacks that use HP instead of mana..my HP does go down...not that much though...and I got to say..Shamans are my monks favorite flavor of healer<img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> </DIV><p>Message Edited by trin kahl on <span class=date_text>06-01-2006</span> <span class=time_text>07:45 AM</span>
I have noticed with my 39th level mystic that the wards have no effect on blocking incoming mental damage. Creatures that use mental attacks similar to those used by the Troubadors and Dirges seem to cause damage right through the wards as if they did not exist. I often duo with a monk and it is true that the monk abilities also damage the monk as they are used and the wards have no effect on that either. It seems as though most magical damage is absorbed by the ward as far as i have seen.

I'd be interested to see logged proof of this phenomenon.<div></div>
