So, let's say I'm trolling through my AA chart and trying to decide what my path will be. 'Respecs'? We don't need no steenken respecs; we're gonna get it right the first time.Looks like I have my choice of weapons, Dual Wield, Spear, Great Spear, Staff,... Buckler or Symbol in secondary.Problem is, I've been using Imbued Wands since level 35. Don't even remember the order now, just know the current one is made of Ironwood. Nice piece, really. So, does Wand == Staff? It would in olden days, back when we only had the first three D&D books and Greyhawk. But now, I kinda doubt it.Can someone confirm as to whether or not I am SoL? Do I have to find something else? Have we, somewhere in our forum, come up with a real concise solid analysis of our new choices - should we want to take full advantage of our AAs?Javax, Nektulos (nee Lavastorm)Legion of Valourex-member of the Alliance to Restore the Republic (Hey Pai, we should play catch-up soon).

A Staff is nearly always 2 Handed. I would go so far as to say always, but I'm sure that as soon as I do someone will provide a link to some obscure 1H Staff.

The fighting batons are considered staffs, according to a fury in my guild. They are duel wield weapons so weilding style doesnt seem to be an issue.

This is one huge annoyance for me; there is really no way of telling what weapon is what. There is another thread in the Achievement forums talking about this. I pay for a lot of the extra features on this EQ2 website, and to be honest their item search engine has been broken since day one, and no matter how much they say they are working on it, it still isn't ready.Sorry, went on a rant there....it's annoying that player community needs to dig and find this stuff out...they still don't have any of the spell listing's on the official class guides. In fact those pages have been down for some time now....ok ok deep breathing...

Magelo + Lucy is leaps and bounds better than EQ2Players - and cheaper!Too bloody bad it doesnt exist for EQ2.

First things first... Tycho is the man. ARR

Second things... well... second.

While i can see why there is a need to somehow limit how many of the root/stun/damage melee arts we get from AA's i feel that the weapon requirements is not a way to do it. SOE has been trying real hard to create diversity in gear (and doing a pretty good job) the AA req's are taking a step back in these regards.

Third please make it so that our EPIC weapon has a choice to be our class weapon. Or at the very least have us be able to use our epics with atleast one of the AA lines (save secondaries). How hard would it be to let us pick what type of weapon we want and have certain stats based on our class placed upon the items? THAT would create diversity.

Why not just have it where...Everytime we use an ability they dont want to be mixed with something else, we get a buff for like 2 minutes, that prohibits use of all those other abilities. And then everyone could use whatever weapon they want.

Am guessing from this thread that nobody's managed to nail down yet which what does/does not officially count as a staff for this ability? Been trying to plan gear shopping and ability-buying and this makes it a tad difficult, especially since there's no "staff" category to search on with the broker. :O

Right now i am testing to see if the str line is going to even be useful at all. If its not i will respec and start the int line, if i do that i will test a few items out and see if they work.

I found something disturbing today... T7 Greatspears are not in the game. I have searched EQ2ID, ogaming and spoken with multiple weaponsmiths including a 70 one.

Its a good thing that the AGI line requires them. I hope this is an oversight otherwise i have one choice for a weapon.

Message Edited by paisan on 03-11-200605:28 PM

Lots of fun and informative replies, but no answer to my core question:* Does an imbued Wand count as a Staff?I suspect not, but would like to make sure before I go trolling the broker for an alternate weapon.- Javax

There is also a Wand that was recently turned into a 1H Staff as well, it was in patch notes.

Sillililygirl wrote:

Why do I want to look for a spear, staff or anything else?

because you need for example a spear equipped to make use of a good part of our AP'sor a staffor a maceor a buckleror a totemetc. etc. edit: i for my part use the pristine imbued cobalt spear for soloing and the prismatic scepter for grouping, works good for me until i get prismatic2 or a proper t7 spear (like the hand of the priestess or how that spear is called)

Message Edited by tebion on 03-16-200607:14 AM

>>>But what is everyone actually using?<<<I replaced the wand I was using with an imbued staff in preparation for needing it for AAs. I am still 20% away from my 6th AA point where I will get an ability that requires it. In the meantime, I like the staff as I do pretty good damage with it.

Well I did find a 10 wis spear as a quest reward in SS last night... but screaming mace is still definitely better.Only thing I know for sure is I'm going with the symbol in off hand line first on AAs.
