<div><div>Dear Mystic Community,</div><div> </div><div>A bit of background: I bought EQ2 about 10 days ago, looking for an alternative to World of Warcraft which I played since release in 2004. So far I am loving EQ2. I rolled an Illusionist and took such Illusionist to level 22. Although I find the class quite entertaining, I am a bit frustrated by my role as a buff-bot. I was hoping for something a bit more pro-active.</div><div> </div><div>I like the mystic class because of its uniqueness. I was wondering what your thoughts were on a new player to EQ2 making a mystic. I am looking for a class that is always wanted in groups (and mystics, being healers, appear to be desired) early game AND LATE game. What do you think?</div><div> </div><div>I was also wondering how mystics compared to other priest classes. As I understand it, fury solo best, heal worst (though still well) out of the four priest classes. So, I am guessing mystics do better than fury in healing. What about mystics compared to wardens? What about mystics compared to templars?</div><div> </div><div>Thank you in advance.</div><div> </div><div>Res Ipsa Loq</div></div>

Ok first off, I play a 54 mystic atm, and don't have much experience with raiding the end game, so everything I tell ya is primarily based on grouping.Mystics are indeed very desirable throughout the game, but even more so in the late game (as less people have reached that level and therefore fewer healers are available. Mystics are at the moment very good at healing, better than we've ever been. We can quite easy be the sole healer of a sucessful group. Mystic's healing however does function quite different from the other classes of course so it is hard to compare healing ability. However, let me say that all healing classes can adequitly heal a sucessful group, and not come into many other difficulties. As a mystic you'll want to be throwing in slows and debuffs to keep the wards up as long as possible, and because of the way wards work you often have time to cast slows (and dots and nukes), unless of course you're fighting tough opponents, in which case you'll want to chain cast heals and wards.Because Healers seem so fairly matched in terms of healing, the contest really turns to dps. Furies (followed closely by Wardens) dominate this aspect of the priest call, and defilers, mystics, inquisitors, and templars follow. Mystics are really right in the middle. You may hear people complaining about slow soloing due to low DPS, however be aware that shamans rely on DOTS which druids and Templars cast nukes. Our damaging capabilities aren't really that bad, they just take time. Finally be aware of one final thing in general about EQ2. Level 21-26 or so is the absolute worst. You're more likely to stop then more than ever. You just have to push through these levels. I made several alts when my mystic was around these levels. My best friend quit with 3 toons around level 22. So perhaps you don't like the Illusionist, but I'm suggesting you might want to try him for a few more levels before formulating your conclusions. And be aware of this principal with your mystic as well...<div></div>

<div></div><div></div>I guess the question becomes which priest class is better at emergency healing and/or group healing?<p>Message Edited by resipsaloq on <span class="date_text">02-21-2006</span><span class="time_text">11:39 AM</span></p>

<div>I currently play a lvl 60 mystic and yes I have a lot of end game experience.</div><div>Basically when it comes down to it all priest classes can be a solo healer in a group and can heal just as good as the next. Mystics are very desirable in end game you almost have to have them in raids typically in the main tank group. This will increase even more due to the lvl 65 spell we will be getting Bolster which at Master I rank will increase all the stats of the recipient 32% for about 36 seconds. So if you have an 11k tank you will buff him up to around 15 - 16k HPs. Mystics are well known for our buffing capabilities we can make our allies much stronger and our enemies much weaker due to debuffs. We ward our allies so that they don't take much damage to begin with. In a solid group me as only healer you will never see the tank go below green in his HPs. I enjoy my Mystic to the fullest.</div>

I'm not in any way discouraging you from playing a Mystic . . . however . . .I also have an Illusionist, and if you are having trouble doing more than buffing, the problem resides in your play, not the class. My Illusionist is typically doing as much DPS as any Scout aside from Assassins and Rangers.Illusionists are also able to do CC, which can save a lot of group wipes. I typically bail my group out of a wipe per hour easily, perhaps more if the dungeon is deep and dangerous (Creator room in RoV for instance).I make named pulls cake by mezzing the named of the group while the adds are taken out, then stifling, power draining and stunning the named until he's dead. There really aren't many classes in EQ2 that I would DISCOURAGE people from playing on the basis of functionality.<div></div>

<div></div><div>In direct reply to the above post:</div><div> </div><div>I mez, my party breaks my mez.</div><div> </div><div>I root, the tank pulls aggro on the rooted mob and the root breaks.</div><div> </div><div>My pet takes three concentration slots and with alacracity (haste), there is no room for buffs, so I get rid of my pet which halfs my DPS.</div><div> </div><div>I have three DoTs and 2 nukes. The nukes do pathetic damage. How exactly does that outdamage the scouts?</div><div> </div><div>I was thus hoping for a healer role that would help the group more.</div><div> </div><div>Thank you all, by the way, for providing feedback. This is great.</div>

Screw Alacrity. The DPS increase it provides is miniscule. Any Illusionist who doesn't use their pet is foolish.Crack costs NO concentration. The problem you have sounds to be with your group. Broken mezzes are not the fault of the Illusionist in most cases, though the pet can cause problems if not put in passive mode immediately upon summoning.Play what you like, but don't ignore Illusionists if you like them. Educate your groups and you can turn an average group into a really good one.<div></div>

Mystics are a great class. You heal and if there's another healer, you have some slows and debuffs and DOTs to keep you busy with the reduced healing. For the "enchanter" mages, I don't you're evaluation is off. There are times when they are useful, but there are a lot of times, especially at lower levels, when your abilities are really just not used.<div></div>

Both illusionists and mystics are actually very similar in the respects you speak of.They can both do ALOT to make a group better. They both become appreciated more and more as time goes on.The problem is...the things they add often arent very noticable until they are gone.If you group with an illusionist, his power regen group buff is amazing...but you often dont think about just how awesome it is until you are grouping without him.If you group with a mystic, his most effiecient "heals" are his wards. Wards are a good way of healing, but they dont appear to do much of anything, until they are not there. If the mystic constantly keeps wards up, the tank is always in the green and everyone just kind of takes for granted that the tank isnt leaving the green. Alot of folks won't for instance, tell you that you are doing a great job healing until they see a healthbar get brought up from red to green. The next day, without those classes, you really start to realize just how much they did for you.<div></div>
