Ok, I am going to answer this, very carefully.

First, I was the person that asked the question. Yes, I was frustrated. Yes, I am not going to throw anyone under the bus.

Strats, are very secretative in several cases, there are guilds that have guidelines on sharing strats (they flat out do not). So I really did not expect a response. I did get a few upper level "hints", but no response. You have to remember that "bragging" rights in EQ2 means a lot (grats FoH on Djinn Master and that earring). And if you give a strat away, that competing guild is that much closer to catching up and even beating you. Now, I know, different servers etc, that is a very limited risk, but a risk none the less.

So, you can send private tells and you might get an answer, but never expect to get an answer in an open forum like that (You just dont know who is listening). Private tells are better, and I did get some tells with some good advice, but never an all out "strat". Did my guild figure it out, yes, did we win, maybe. :smileyvery-happy:

But, remember. Strats are kept close to the guild and mostly it is looked down on to give all out "strats" to other guilds. And simply put, not to competing guilds on the same server. Usually, a simple "hint" to get you on the right track is all that is needed, also, learning and beating encounters is part of the game--that makes winning so much more sweet. :smileywink:

Anyway, I hope that helps you understand.

I will never understand the secretiveness. Who gives a crap what number on a list you are on eq2players. If i had a strategy that worked on the particular mob i wouldn't have even thought twice about not sharing it, especially inside a community. I personally would have the reputation of being a nice guy rather than that of an arrogant person with good gear.

I think I fall in between somewhere.I am more than happy to give suggestions, information and hints. I rarely will give someone a step by step walkthru.

I am with Bandit on this. I tried to say the same things. I give hints and suggestions...I think a walk through spoils some of the sweetness of victory.

My guild has a general raid-strat NDA, and I've seen many that do.What you can and cannot accomplish as a guild affects much more then your numbers on eq2players. A great part of the prestige of a raiding guild is what it can take down; this helps greatly with guild morale and recruitment, to name a couple. Half of raiding is a state of mind, people's mental states can greatly help or hinder the effectiveness of their play. In my opinion, giving away raid strats on current content not only cheapens YOUR victory if you use them; it cheapens the time and effort that my guild put in to figure it out... and in the end, to me, the importance of appreciating my guild's time and effort, and the importance that the members of my guild are in a healthy state of morale is greater then the success of your guild. To me, it is about taking care of my own.

Just because I am a Mystic like everyone else that joins this channel doesn't mean I am required to tell you every "in and out" of a raid encounter I participate in as well. Competition at the high end of the game is fierce. But it's not just some [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] BS....it's the fact that nobody was holding our hand helping us figure out the hardest encounters in the game. We jumped ths hurdle on our own. Now it's up to the rest to figure it out. Will those of us that have vanquished the highest levels of challenge in the game help those that have yet to beat these milestones? Sure.....but in moderation as per the rules of our guild disclosure rules go.

As for me....it's not even about some high level guild crap I-dont-want-you-to-win-this-cause-we-did-manifesto. I know my guild is great. I want everyone else to learn the ins and outs of the encounters within the highest realms of the game just like I have. Telling you how to do everything cheapens the experience to be sure - this holds true in a classroom as well. I want you to feel like we felt when we beat the encounters. Confident and proud in our accomplisments. Would you really feel the same if you were given a step-by-step diagram of how to win an encounter? I doubt it.

Personally, I don't get the secret strategies either. Especially not in this game where there is little to no competition, like there was in EQ. One guild going through Poets doesn't effect another guild at all. Sharing how to kill an encounter doesn't hurt anyone, everybody wins. If all mobs were contested, maybe I'd understand.

I dont think most guilds do it for the " We are leet and your not" attitude, but more so ( on busy servers ) to have access to it before it starts being camped. Now I dont know high end content, just returned to the game and restarting, and never got very far at launch. But from my experience in previous games with raiding guilds .... it is very important to be the only or few select guilds farming/raiding certain areas/instance/zones. Its more of a presitege then anything else for some.Oh and a side not, I have personally witnessed immediate disbanning or members who gave out starts on encounters/raid mobs/zones .... so if you do like giving out info, make sure you talk to your guild leaders/counsil if you like your guild. If you run your own guild make it known that you do so, or you might loose some of the hardcore raiders
