I am a ranger by nature..but..I will be laying down my bow for a while and picking up the healing staff. My partner is also a ranger...and it seem that..for us to continue to play together..I must do this... I unsure which path...both look very good and both look interesting to play... If I must lay down my bow...I would like to at least have fun with this new class. I do not know which animals either class can turn into...I do not know if shamans have pets like they did in eq live. I am also asking this question on the fury board.. Would a Mystic duo well with a ranger?

Mystic ranger is a great duo actually... arguably the best out there. Fury is good too would have more dps but with a mystic you could take harder mobs but sacrifice a little speed.

You might also ask on the warden boards. They are a good middle groud between fury and mystic. They also get a root which may work well with a ranger (would have to ask them). It also works for RP.

Factors I am trying to take in on these two classes... 1. fun factor..is it a fun class to play, will I enjoy playing it? or will I end up frustrated? 2. solo factor...can I solo at all? sure I know healers are group type ...most of all but..can I just go out and do some simple quests? or will I have my [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] handed to me off every mob? 3. Fluff spells and changing into animals. I know furys do lions, wardens wolfs..shamans bears? not sure what fluff spell each has yet. 4. Can I keep my partner alive....? those who ever played eqlive know the old sayings about rangers going down faster than a prom date. *sigh* 5. What buffs do each class have that would be better for duoing with a ranger. Like I noticed a fury get a speed buff? wondering if warden and mystic have same.. It sounded like a haste buff...not sure..am I reading it wrong? Speaking of fury's Savagery So far this is my list...of things I am trying to compare between the two well now 3 classes..between warden, fury and mystic.

No, I will not necessarily die, but my DPS feels so pathetic that I am winning more by attrition than anything else. After being used to playing a Ranger I suspect that the first thing you will find challenging about playing a Mystic would be the tremendous gap in DPS. That's something the Fury's have on us. Warden's seem something of a middle-ground to me. They don't have quite the DPS the Fury's do, certainly more than us, but I suspect our wards give us a slight edge in the "healing" department over them. I have no parsed logs to back this statement up. Also, Shaman can wear Medium (chain) armor which is what you'd be used to as a scout. Wardens/Furies wear Light armor (leather). I wish Druids much luck with that wonderful cardboard armor! =)

3. Fluff spells and changing into animals. Not that a Druid co-healer wouldn't do the same thing, but they're so busy nuking and flexing their DPS muscle they may not be paying attention to the healing. I know that is a gross generalization, but that is just the experience I have had.

5.
I'm a mystic and my second char is a druid lvl 17 waiting to become a fury. So far I think the fury abilities are more offensive at the cost of healing (compared to the mystic). But I must admit that on lvl 17 the druid's heal over time ist strong enough -especially the Master II group hot - so at this level I don't really miss the mystic wards.

My mystic often groups with one or two scouts, one of them a ranger as well. He likes his bow and the damage he can cause with it. He just bought a imbued lvl 30 rare bow - nice investment. But in a group of two he sooner or later gets the aggro and cannot use the bow anymore. If that happens damage dealing becomes difficult, as his malee abilities are limited. And there goes the fun for the ranger. So I think both of you should think about it. If you like to group together both of you might set up a new char.

edit to make myself clear:

A group of two with one priest an one ranger isn't fun for the ranger anymore as he always gets aggro and cannot use his bow anymore. So he looses his main advantage and his most valuable abilities.

Message Edited by casacki on 11-23-2005 03:11 PM

Just a short note - the point about warden roots could be important if duoing with a ranger as this allows the ranger to keep using his treasured dam bow...

A lvl 60 ranger and a lvl 60 warden are a truely scary combination easily soloing Scornfeathers including all the nameds

for those who might wonder...I ended up going mystic. it seems the right way to go, knowing my self as a ranger..we can deal the damage rather quickly, we dodge a lot of hits....problem is we can't take the hits when they do get us.. the mystic wards so far seem amazing for what they can do. also...as a side note...rangers get a falcon pet ..total fluff but..it seems sort a fitting that my fluff spell is becoming a falcon....so in this case ...my mate will have a real useful falcon at his side now. Also when the time comes and he gets a bear pet...my bear form can function in place of his fluff pet. I know kinda silly but...I thought it was kinda cool. again thank you all for your thoughts, information, points of view...it was a hard choice to make.
