View Full Version : Umbral Attendant vs Shadowy Attendant

I've just hit level 59 tonight so I decided to go and test Umbral Attendant to see what the difference would be. To test, I jumped off the griffon tower in Antonica then I would cast the spell. To my surprise it seems to heal for the same amount as Shadowy Attendant does, between 130hp to 155hp per tick (7 ticks total). I haven't tested it in group yet to see if maybe the range is better, but the only difference I can see is that the pet is level 59. I'm going to do more testing tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone else noticed this?

My Shadowy Attendant is Adept III (I know, I wasted a rare...I didn't know at the time tho) and Umbral Attendant is Adept I.

Message Edited by Gakus on 11-13-2005 11:53 PM

That rare was NOT wasted my friend and it's why you see almost no difference. Over a long period you'd prolly find that the newer one even though only ad1 is healing in a slightly higher range, but not by much. The upgrades to our lil badgery friend most certainly DO make it heal more. My shadowy attendant master 1 heals for 160 to 180ish each tick.

oh really :smileyhappy: Thanks for the info Nacireen. I'll get my new pet up to adept III and see what happens.

The part I love about the badger is that it heals everyone in the group, you can get 6 X 150 pt heal per tick. No heal we have can do that for the power used.

I love out HoT pet! It's a great spell but the only issue that I see is that the Shadowy Attendant spell adept 1 vs adept 3 - there doesn't seem to be a huge difference. :smileysad:
Message Edited by vicarious on 11-14-2005 10:56 AM

Well, I've upgraded my Umbral Attendant to Adept III tonight. Seems like it's actually worse than the Adept I version was and no better that the lvl 45 Shadowy Attendant Adept III spell. :smileysad: At least I saw 150+ HP ticks every now and then with the Adept I version last night. I wouldn't think it was intended for the Adept III to heal less than the Adept I version and the same as the lvl 45 Shadowy Attendant spell. I jumped off the griffon tower 3 times and logged the results below. Think a Dev needs to look into this issue.

(1132011580)[Mon Nov 14 17:39:40 2005] YOU are hit for 2492 points of falling damage.
(1132011584)[Mon Nov 14 17:39:44 2005] You summon an Aide of the Oracle!
(1132011584)[Mon Nov 14 17:39:44 2005] Your group is accompanied by an Aide of the Oracle!
(1132011585)[Mon Nov 14 17:39:45 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 120 hit points.
(1132011589)[Mon Nov 14 17:39:49 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 136 hit points.
(1132011592)[Mon Nov 14 17:39:52 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 138 hit points.
(1132011595)[Mon Nov 14 17:39:55 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 133 hit points.
(113201159[Mon Nov 14 17:39:58 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 129 hit points.
(1132011601)[Mon Nov 14 17:40:01 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 125 hit points.
(1132011604)[Mon Nov 14 17:40:04 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 119 hit points.
(1132011605)[Mon Nov 14 17:40:05 2005] The Aide of the Oracle leaves.
(1132011649)[Mon Nov 14 17:40:49 2005] YOU are hit for 2467 points of falling damage.
(1132011652)[Mon Nov 14 17:40:52 2005] You summon an Aide of the Oracle!
(1132011652)[Mon Nov 14 17:40:52 2005] Your group is accompanied by an Aide of the Oracle!
(1132011654)[Mon Nov 14 17:40:54 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 117 hit points.
(1132011657)[Mon Nov 14 17:40:57 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 125 hit points.
(1132011660)[Mon Nov 14 17:41:00 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 129 hit points.
(1132011663)[Mon Nov 14 17:41:03 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 130 hit points.
(1132011666)[Mon Nov 14 17:41:06 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 122 hit points.
(1132011669)[Mon Nov 14 17:41:09 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 129 hit points.
(1132011672)[Mon Nov 14 17:41:12 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 118 hit points.
(1132011673)[Mon Nov 14 17:41:13 2005] The Aide of the Oracle leaves.
(1132011715)[Mon Nov 14 17:41:55 2005] YOU are hit for 2233 points of falling damage.
(1132011719)[Mon Nov 14 17:41:59 2005] You summon an Aide of the Oracle!
(1132011719)[Mon Nov 14 17:41:59 2005] Your group is accompanied by an Aide of the Oracle!
(1132011720)[Mon Nov 14 17:42:00 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 123 hit points.
(1132011723)[Mon Nov 14 17:42:03 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 124 hit points.
(1132011726)[Mon Nov 14 17:42:06 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 122 hit points.
(1132011730)[Mon Nov 14 17:42:10 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 138 hit points.
(1132011733)[Mon Nov 14 17:42:13 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 132 hit points.
(1132011736)[Mon Nov 14 17:42:16 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 122 hit points.
(1132011739)[Mon Nov 14 17:42:19 2005] Aide of the Oracle's Oracle's Blessing heals YOU for 115 hit points.
(1132011739)[Mon Nov 14 17:42:19 2005] The Aide of the Oracle leaves.

Any chance at all that these spells could have real spell descriptions? Or is it considered to be part of the fun to have to parse out what they do (honestly confused not meant as sarcastic)? Feedback from me personally is that I'd rather have real spell descriptions.

I'd like to see that myself. Sure no pets have their stats on examine but I'm pretty sure ours is unique in that it does NOTHING but cast one single spell a few times. Some stat listing on what it's casting would be nice.

I agree, shamans should get their wolf pets back, those were fun :smileyhappy: I know I enjoyed having a friend I could buff who took all the hits for me. I've suggested that in some post on the priest forum, where it would take ~3 concentration, taunt a single target, and do some ok damage. Sounds like fun

If nothing else to have a pet open up a fight, hold aggro while I cast my debuffs, refresh my wards and then begin nuking, probably grabbing aggro in the process. I never played EQ1 so I only have the anecdotal stories of EQ1 mystics that had the wolf pet. I don't care if it is a wolf, a bear, a chipmonk, a spider monkey, an armadillo.........

I put it this way. Wardens have Evac. Furies have group invis. Templars have Soothe. I'm sorry I don't know what Inquisitors get but I'll wager they have something useful too. I have less DPS than Druids, so if getting a pet is going to "unbalance" the game (whatever) at least give me a viable Stun/Root. Not that de-aggro spell with the 'stun' component that takes 5 minutes to re-up that ALL of us get. Give me ONE wizard-like stun that will keep a bunch of mobs from pummelling me into a Mystic-Stain on the ground. Go ahead and modify the De-aggro spell with a longer stun time and a shorter re-cast timer and I'll be happy and no Mystic has to lose a spell from his/her spell line.

<Climbs down from soapbox>

-K

Message Edited by Surly_Smurf on 11-22-200511:43 PM

Message Edited by Surly_Smurf on 11-22-200511:56 PM

Message Edited by Surly_Smurf on 11-22-2005 11:57 PM

If they added the pet with an adventure/expansion pack then we wouldnt have to lose anything.

Surly_Smurf wrote:

Wardens have Evac. At the same time we get Mourning Soul, which is usable in combat every fight. Warden evac is almost never usable in combat. It is slow casting and the warden is usally supposed to be healing at that time to make sure everyone gets out when the scout evacs. Its usually just for travel.

Furies have group invis. At the same time we get Shadowy Attendant, again same argument. We get something that can get used nearly every fight in combat, they get something that is useful every once in awhile out of combat.

Templars have Soothe. At the same time we get Grim Lethargy. Which has likely the same amount or more effect. I know the templar I group with is not at all happy with the soothe spells.

I will not deny that we dont have much out of combat utilities, but we have in combat utilities instead, which are usually more useful. Our crowd control(slows&dps redux) is also less than complete control, but it does allow the target to continue to get attacked, which the others do not have. Soothe is broken by attacking, roots are broken by attacking, etc. I would argue this is mostly equal, just a different style. We can keep them partially controled the whole time, the others can wholely control them for a partial time.

I addressed the in/out of combat disparity to the devs in the request for feedback thread here.

The best we could hope for would be to get two out of combat utilities at 39 & 45 and the others get what they need to have one of each on those two levels. The problem there though is to come up with 12 new abilities that dont step on anyone's toes. So we need something out of combat besides group invis or evac, and they need something besides something that we get in combat.

Then we could hope for a pet in an adventure/expansion pack.

The important thing is to realize that no one is really completely better off than some other class in this area.
I still say that i would rather not be given a "real pet" UNLESS it is like the 3 concentration that were talked about earlier to boost dps but even then i would rather have a buff instead.

We definitely have much more spell focus in combat versus out of combat like some of the other classes (i REFUSE to use the "U" word =P) but i would rather be a better player where it matters. The only skill i would trade a in-combat spell for would be group-invis because it is enormously usefull both in group and solo and even AFK for that matter.

With the changes to Chameleon totems, I don't think that I would trade any of our u-spells for a group invis. On our server, you can usually find these relatively cheap, and they are just as good as a spell slot invis.

I thought of that after i wrote it so i probably wouldnt "trade" any of our spells but i still see that as the most usefull of all the other chioces.

I understand what you're saying, and still I partially agree and partially disagree.

I agree with your statement that our functionality stays mostly within combat and not so much out of combat. And I'm really not saying that a "pet" is necessarily THE answer. Just an answer. It's just one of a couple options that I would like to see The Dev's consider adding to our functionality, if possible. I've never run a parser under semi-controlled conditions to determine how much damage I'm REALLY sparing my tank/group with my debuffs. Do I use them? OH you betcha. I use them religiously with the blind hope that they are actually doing something. Maybe it's just the level of Tanks/DPS that I am running with that the individual fights are so short that it is impossible to really be sure if my debuffs are truly having a quantifiable impact. It feels like whether I debuff or not the encounter ends in roughly the same time. The amt of power/health lost doesn't seem much different. I dunno.

But I DO wonder what it would be like to gain a little functionality beyond what we have now. Whether it could be applied in non-combat situations (or more specifically helps me AVOID combat) or enhance my combat in a new fascinating way, I'm open to suggestions. Maybe I should not open my mouth without having a fully formed plan for the Dev's (not that they would read my post anyway).

So, to reference my earlier self: Fury's group invis; helps avoid combat. Templar's Soothe; helps avoid combat. Warden's Evac; escape combat gone bad. Are any of them foolproof? Heck no, nothing in this game is, and it would get boring if anything were. Not asking for Uberness. Maybe I'm the only Shaman (cos I don't think Defilers get any of this love either) game-wide that feels frustrated that other healer classes are given what I can only describe as cross-class utility. I'm sure a Cleric could chime in with "but we are the only healer class that doesn't get SOW" and that's fine, I don't see any reason for them NOT to have SOW. I don't understand why all healers don't. Maybe that is some EQ1 thing that I'm ignorant of for never having played it.

I don't realistically expect anything i've said above to call down a Dev from the ivory tower, wave a magical coding wand and suddenly put a smile on my face. I don't think I'm pulling a "give 'em an inch and they'll take a mile" after the recent fixes we received in the revamp. The druids and the clerics can keep the special abilities they have to themselves, that's fine. I would just like to see something special and unique come OUR way.

I realise my little diatribes like this make me out to be some sort of disgruntled Mystic even though I don't really think of myself that way. I love playing one and if SOE came right out and told me I will never ever receive what I'm asking for it would not make me want to stop playing one. I'm not going to cancel my account or delete my Mystic on account of it, but never the less, I still feel disatisfied by what I view as a disparity even if it is one I can and will live with. But that being said, I won't hesitate to vocalize it. :smileyvery-happy:

-K

paisan wrote:
The only skill i would trade a in-combat spell for

I guess I didnt express it very well in the post I made above, but in the feedback thread I linked, I was VERY adamant in saying that the way to address this was not trading spells. Instead the solution is to give the subclasses each a new spell at 39 and 45 and balance the in/out of combat problems with those.

So, if I bought the adept 3 of the lvl 59 badger....it was worth it? It had been for sale for about a week on mistmoore for over 2p...saw it on sat night for 1p 30 g. Had to buy it, hope it heals for more than the adept 1 lvl 59 badger.

Yes it should be considerably better than the adept. In my experience sofar upgrading spells post 50, if you had the master 1 of previous version then the adept 1 of the new one will be roughly the same or only MARGINALLY better. Once you hit adept 3 you get significant improvement versus even the master of the spell it is upgrading. And this now seems to be the case with our pudgy lil friend.
