<DIV>I wish I had the details on the shield, but I am sure someone may have it. Scenerio is this, a SCORN SHIELD of AEGIS dropped and the two healers (Shaman and Cleric) are saying that they would use it, then a Dirge (true rogue) says that he would use it also.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now, I do remember that this shield has 12 Wisdom and 280 something shielding (trying to find the stats). So, we random it...I win (shaman) -- I think it is a good fit, however the Dirge sends me a tell asking why I wanted it and what I would use it for...more or less trying to guilt me into giving it to him...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>My Question is: Why would a Dirge want a shield? It does not have any special attributes for Dirge or anything. Just straight stats.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Can someone find the stats on it and post with this message to give everyone the correct stats.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Mystt</DIV>

The only stats on a shield that matter are the actual stats. The "shield factor" is a completely useless piece of information. It has absolutely nothing to do with the protective value of the shield. It isn't added to your mitigation in any way, shape or form. Shields add to only one thing: Avoidance. The only factor that matters here is the shield type. Bucklers add in the neighborhood of 2% avoidance, Round shields 5% and Kite / Tower around 10%. If the shield is a stat upgrade for you, by all means, use it! You might ask your Dirge friend why he would want a Buckler when he can use a Round shield which provides roughly double the avoidance of a Buckler.

<P>Bandit that is another piece of the problem...there was NOT a TYPE of SHIELD listed...IE. Did not say the skill used. (Buckler, Round, or anything)</P> <P> </P> <P>Mystt</P>

You have to look at the classes that can use it. If preist is listed it can only be a bucker, if fighters and scouts can then it's round, if warriors and crusaders can it's kite, and if just warriors then it's tower.

<DIV>Is this instance in DOF? Crefts Instance? Im not familiar with it...are the stats better than the Pristine Imbued Ceder Buck that we all seem to be using? I was going to do the Shiny Brass Shield quest...but just for xp.</DIV>

He meant in instance inside Clefts. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> And any 50+ mystics that don't already know, even if wis is added to the ironwood buckler it's still pales in comparison to a pearl orb. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Trust me check the stats and you'll fall in love. T6 casters all need pearl orbs. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Edit: Actually see the stats here, just paste the following line into any chat ingame (tell/guild/grp/say/etc)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>aITEM -1141851530 pristine fashioned pearl orb:pristine fashioned pearl orb/a</DIV><p>Message Edited by Nacireen on <span class=date_text>10-31-2005</span> <span class=time_text>12:06 PM</span>

<DIV>But of course the pearl orb is uber. Although I cant seem to find a place where rocks pop in SS that isnt camped by every lvl 60 on the Mistmoore server. I figured thats what he was talking about, Clefts, been there a few times. Not sure if those stats are that much better then the ceder one, I'll have to check it out. Until I can find pearls(first ones going to be a ring for me), my secondary will either be the Ceder Buck, or the Tartons wheel.</DIV>

<P>Equipped a pristine fashioned nacre orb today instead of Cedar buckler. Stats are 0 shield factor, 10 wis/int, 68 power, 55 to all saves. Mitigation actually went <EM>up</EM> by 55, and avoidance dropped by 3.5%</P> <P>Very interesting.</P> <P><STRONG>Kanali - 55 Mystic - Steamfont</STRONG></P>

<div></div>That's an interesting point about the increase in mitigation. I still think the avoidance is better than mitigation, however, the increased mitigation makes it close enough that differences are irrelevant. You ain't gettin much from either one, but the mitigation increase simply lets you choose whichever yields better stats without considering the effect on your ability to take a punch. Incidentally, the shield mentioned by the OP is a Buckler, I got it last night in Scornfeather Roost. Still havent decided if I will attune it or sell it. <p>Message Edited by Banditman on <span class=date_text>11-01-2005</span> <span class=time_text>08:33 AM</span>

For the most part mitigation will be superior as it's ALWAYS in effect. If the mob's behind you at all you have zero avoidance, and even when it's in your frontal arc our avoid is so low now that it's barely worth considering.

I make it a point to always position myself in such a way that mobs don't get behind me. It's really not that hard to do. Once you've done it for a while it becomes a habit and you really don't think about it.

<DIV>I agree. If you do get in a position where a mob is behind you - move asap or risk pain! I personally like avoidance over mit - it's why only 2 pieces of my armor (chest and boots) is medium while the rest is light - <STRONG>usually</STRONG> light gives more wisdom. If I am going to be used to pull a mob with a debuff (happens occasionally) then I'll switch to my mit armor :smileyvery-happy:</DIV>
