View Full Version : Low 20s Mystic
Hello my fellow healer peoples. I am a low 20s Mystic that normally plays in a small group (Monk, Ranger, Me) but am having trouble when it comes to keeping the Monk alive. I hear that a lot of Mystics are loving the changes when it comes to being able to actually keep a group alive, but for some reason I am having trouble with this group if we fight anything more than low blue (2-3 V) heroic mobs. For example: Splitpaw (scaled to our ~ level) has been evil.My questions concern my ability to keep my Monk friend alive. Any wards placed on my Monk friend just get torn up, is it because of the mob difficulty? Perhaps the Monk isn't as good a target for wards (as say a Paladin)? Will it get better? Any tips that I could try out to improve my own tactics? Thanks in advance! <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />(last time we grouped, 23 Monk, 23 Ranger, 21 Mystic)Vanluen Darkwood - 21 Barbarian Mystic

<DIV>I play both actually - mystic and monk. Though my monk normally duos with a warden, i can think of a few things possibly, but they arent mystic related.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Is your monk using dual weild or a 2hander to tank? I think he'll see less incoming damage with a 2 hander.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>What stance is he using when fighting? I've actually found the offensive stance to be better with my playstyle (tranquil blessing) but the ability to change your stance on the fly is nice and he should be using this if he starts taking a beating...switch to the other stance and see if it doesnt make things easier.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Are your spells and his combat abilities at adept 1 or higher? This really makes a difference now.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>What armor is he using? My monk is using just the plain old aq armor at 25 and he tears stuff up. if he hasnt done AQ and isnt using gear of at least aq quality, I highly recommend it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>What is his avoidance looking like and does he need to get more AGI gear? My 25 ratonga monk is running about 590 mitigation but his avoidance self buffed is 55% (93 AGI). With group buffs, etc he regularly is in the 60s. Not getting hit is key for a monk :smileywink:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If you or he knows a tailor, I'd highly recommend an AGI hex doll (shadow imbued), the rare version if you can afford it. The stat boost is noticable at that level, and if you run out of range items for pulling, you can use the effect on the hex doll. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The thing is my monk isn't twinked. He's using makoto's bo of striking for 2 hand, and a pair of tailored boiled leather fist wraps for DW, in full aq gear, with a cuirboilli leather pouch in range. Nothing special at all for the level. He does get the agi boost from his race, but that is minor. I've not seen these problems. If none of this helps, it may be a playstyle thing and he may need to rethink how he's using his monk. They cant take a beating when they are getting hit. Avoidance > all for monks.</DIV><p>Message Edited by crunchybob on <span class=date_text>09-22-2005</span> <span class=time_text>10:18 AM</span>
He is using a 2 handed bo staff (dont know the name, some 20.? dmg rating on it though, fast attack rate) and commented to me that his avoidance was in the low to mid 60s last night, with group buffs up and while running offensive stance. I actually think my Mystic has the best armor of the group atm as ive purchased mine (non-twink gear, just random drop purchases) while we work on the AQ quests as a group. He (Monk) has AQ gloves right now, but thats about all of the upgraded armor he has other than self crafted Tier 2 leather (is that the problem maybe?). Ranger now has 2 pieces of AQ as of last night when we finished the second quest for him, I currently have none (didnt know where to start mine as Mystic).I've basically found myself in healbot-auto attack mode when grouping with them now, wish we had some encounter size debuffs instead of single target (*wish list*).Thank you for the tips, we'll try and put them to use. Any others?

If you can afford it, purchase T3 common crafted armor while you work on AQ's.
