OK I dunno if it's just me, but I find using this spell as a harmless prank on unsuspecting group members to be hilarious! Water Spirit, in case anyone is unaware, is our group Enduring Breath spell we get at level 23. It lets your group walk and breath underwater. What it also does is make you take falling damage (unless u have high safe fall) if you happen to jump into a relatively deep pool of water or from a decent height, with this spell on. You can use this almost anywhere, like Everfrost, Thundering Steppes, the docks in your home town....I like to use it in Living Tombs, a zone in the DoF expansion. So we're in Living Tombs...and the zone in is this large like aquaduct that spills down into a shallow pool several yards below. Normally you jump down into the water without taking any damage, as it is just deep enough. But with Water Spirit up, you just jumped off something that's the height of two griffon towers :smileyvery-happy:. Off my poor little group mates go running to their death or near death. The reactions are great too...."man that's some hard water!"....."ok i'm deleting this 20k copper it's gotta be weighing me down"...."[expletive ninja'd by Faarbot]?".... man I just died of laughter. Second time I got em was also in Living Tombs, off of an identical aquaduct spout in another area....downed two gnomes for the price of one! I was in a sour mood after a couple of deaths myself so this definately put a smile on my face. There's no group debt right? And it's not like I don't cancel the buff before I have to jump >.> I know some of you have done this, on accident or on purpose. Tell us your stories!

When I was figuring out what all the spells do after the combat revamp I thought it rather odd that there was a single target enduting breath and a group version. Well, I read the descriptions and thought "I wonder what they mean by 'walk under water'" (I know, sometimes my stupidity amazes myself :smileytongue: ). I then noticed that the group version didn't have the 15 minute timer that the single target version has so I just threw up water spirit and hopped into the water in Everfrost and well...went splat all along the sea floor. After the initial shock of what I just did wore off I just about died laughing. I guess I thought there would be a slow decent or something, not just falling throught the water as if just jumping off a cliff :smileyvery-happy:

Tanador - 50 Armorer, 34 Mystic

Umm.. Guilt by accident!!!!

Killed a whole group of guildies on an AQ in Blackburrow... we needed spiders and were about to jump down the waterfall... So I thought great while we are still all together I'll use Water Spirit so everyone can breath immediately.... Um ... er ... wrong!!!

We all hit bottom and died. Now I know.. as does the whole guild .. when NOT to use water Spirit.

My poor Mystic may never live it down....

I put up the first warning on this and got flamed by DB's. Sadly my Mystic was a self victim twice. First when I cast when I was at the surface and needed to swim under agro in Everfrost by Permafrost . SPLAT 3984 Falling Damage (DEAD). Second time I though the wiser and cast while on the ledge at the bottom of the cliffs by Permafrost and stepped into the water. SPLAT 3504 Falling Damage (2 HP remaining).

This spell is of no use. Gusee the Dev's showed us for harping about 3 identical spells before the DoF.

I've never yet wiped my group, but I've splattered myself twice now. First time I was leading a group in SS. We were working on the treasure hunt quest, at the part where ya gotta look under the bay of Anuk. Since it was just a wiz and two healers (other was Inq I think, forgot who was with us), we decided to invis off the cliff. Well, I decided to go in first. Cast WS so we can all breathe when we land, invis, charge, die. lol, other priest was laughing when he hit the water and had to rez me. Second time was also in SS, on the dock. Had just finished a quest and was hanging around bored. Decided to jump off and swim back up (yea, I do odd things when I get bored). Forgot WS was up, made a nice little splash followed by a nice loud splat. At least both were fairly easy recovery. lol

Cast this wonderful spell on a guildie after they were revived in Everfrost to have myself and the rest of my group join the guy at the bottom of the ocean with 90% health gone. Took us a while to realize water spirit was the cause. No one could walk their way out of the water until they cancelled the spell. Was an interesting time for the 10 minutes we were walking around semi confused.

While the accidents because of the spell are funny, I don't find it humorous at all that you try to intentionally see how many groupmates you can get killed... And your only concern there is YOUR xp debt and YOUR repair bill... hope you like to solo cause if anyone did something like that to me, I would be sure never to let them into a group with me again. Also it hurts Mystics in general because people will be worried about someone popping this spell on them just to get them killed. It saddens me to see someone have so much enjoyment from grieving others...

Well, I personally don't greif anyone with this spell, because I don't group with people I don't know. It's a relatively harmless joke on good friends for a bit of a laugh, and people figure it out soon enough. It's not like they can't click the buff off. I didn't think it was necessary to mention any disclaimer on this thread not to "grief" people you don't know over and over for a laugh. That's not the idea. I think you need to relax. Oh and I really hate soloing, so I guess it's a good thing I made it to 60 with all the people I "griefed" with this spell :smileywink:

I've never done it intentionally either. Forget it's on or something maybe, but not as a grief tool. Way I see it, you can either laugh at the accident or you can go all depressed about it. Personally, I'd prefer to laugh it off..

tried it on myself first and laughed my head off. i agree, it's a great juvenile joke to play on your friends...the way a warlock used to turn our tank into a frog in the middle of battle. and if you're grouping with strangers, it's unlikely any accidents will happen if you're already aware of how this works. being able to stand at the bottom while fighting in water is great though, IMO. i've always hated how difficult it is to gauge depth and distance during those kinds of fights. much better now :smileyhappy:

LOL, I haven't killed anyone yet, but there is fun to be had here. While leading a group jump into a body of water just deep enough to cause damage and whatch half the group follow and start questioning how they took damage. Get to the water fall entrance entrance to Tombs of Night and stand on the rocks outside the waterfall and watch as group mates try to swim accross lake and realize they have to scale the underwater rockface to get to the surface. But inside, I make sure its off before anyone goes to jump off the waterfall to the lower areas. Usually the discussion started by the pranks outside make all a bit more timid about that jump, and often I seem to be the first to jump. LOL.

First of all, I did warn them.

The first time I used this spell was trying to guide a couple of friends to the dragon bones in the Commonlands for Hadden's Earring. I had heard the stories about it already, so I told them "This is a new spell-it's an AOE with some odd side effects, so please stay close." So we're walking out to the bones-I'm concentrated on my map-and sure enough, I get "Hey, Pola, we're outside of your spell range.

I look back, and both of them are floating way above and behind me, on the surface. I say "Do not swim closer!"

"Why not?"

SPLAT!!

Safefall saved the Ranger, but the Conjurer was toast. Funny now, not funny at the time. After I'd healed the Ranger and rezzed the Conjurer-and the Conjurer summoned some water breathing gear-we swam out to the bones and got them that update.

Honestly, I mostly kind of like this spell. It's something different, which is nice. But it reaaaaally needs a bigger area of effect.

The AOE effect almost wiped my group last night... I told 'em to follow my to the next target. They didn't...

Luckily we weren't TOO deep. :smileytongue:

I really had to restrain myself when we were doing Shimmering Citadel access. We were near the Ashen Order getting ready to jump in the water to get the Harp update. We were WAY up on the top of the cliffs. It would have been a splat of epic proportions.

Well, here's a short story, with my level 25 mystic i was in Blackburrow with some guildmates on teamspeak, and we were grouped...We were up in the lobby and I told one of the guildies through a tell to say "Last one in the pools a rotten egg" and there went the Froglok Zerker, straight to the bottom ... and on teamspeak there was a collective "What the F___?" ... The guild leader (who is the girlfriend of that Zerker) had foreknowledge of what I was gunna do, but she didnt tell him, it was hysterical. I couldn't stop laughing on teamspeak, I told them what happened, and they were stunned that the buff was like that ... then i took it off and told them i wouldnt put it back on, but did anyway once we got outside and they thought they'd swim across the water by that little waterfall, and they ended up running across...very funny to me.

I think this is funny too. =) I like to save it as an equalizer for the duelers. Sure you can duel me to death but keep talking about it and I'll give you debt when you least expect it. It's fun to go to the hullcrusher rock where sirens are and invite people to group stand on the rock and when they swim out to you cast it and watch em drop. It's fun in the entrance to living tombs as people drop into the pool that's where I accidentally discovered the fun the groups first visit there I dropped down into the water and was waiting and didn't want to die while I went afk a sec so I cast it and waited in the water. I came back to find everyone but the scout and monk laying dead around me.

The funniest part about it though..... People never know what hit em. I get a lot of what the?, that was weird, hmmmm, I just died?, what was that?, I fell in water?. I just sit back and laugh and drop the buff =) I'll come rez you, you need to repair =)

btw I never do it to people I don't know. Just people I adventure with that know it's funny It's like when the tank would position the mobs to barrage you just for fun or the scout runs off and evacs so you're stuck running across nek forest. When the mage drops your invis at a bad time... just general good fun. =)

Message Edited by Zavit on 10-05-2005 10:04 AM

Funny you mention the tank positioning mobs to barrage people, my husband does that all the time for a laugh. It's great to use on unsuspecting mages cuz their hp drop so fast :smileyvery-happy:. Also it's fun to wake the scouts and other secondary melee up by turning the mob to face them during combat. A few well places ripostes and barrages will keep those lazy scouts on their toes!

Oooh, fun stuff!! My story....

My group of guildmates decided to have a dive off contest from the bridge to Deathfist Citadel into the water below. The bridge is rather high, and we decided to buff up in case there were any tree adds. So, /evil grin, I cast this beaut of a spell and watched as my entire group jumped down to their deaths muwahaha. They still think that the water is not real - an illusion- as I have not told them about the spell yet...

More stories sure to come :womansurprised:

I was lucky that I saw posts in the forums about the spell before I tried to use it after LU13. I have been careful and have NOT killed anyone...but have enjoyed the stories of the unintentional deaths. It's sad, but I just can't stop laughing. :smileyvery-happy: Rudhi 42 Mystic Everfrost

Now we get the fun of people that don't read the patch notes. Put it on, have them jump in the water and have them freak out when they fall through and land on the bottom. We will now also be the undisputed masters of cliff diving.
