<DIV>Hello everyone,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I just recently purchased a level 29 mystic in the Shadowhaven (Exchange) server. I purchased the character because of her tradeskills, not because it was a mystic.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Out of curiosity, I started rearranging her spells and decided to try to play her out of the tradeskill instance. Now, I have a guardian, bard, and enchanter, and I can play all three, but I have no idea how to play a priest. Can you guys give me a few pointers on the Mystic solo techniques and group responsibilities?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Guardians - slow mobs, stun, power drain, melee to death and try to not die</DIV> <DIV>Scout - bow kite, massive group dps, sliences, not very good soloer</DIV> <DIV>Mage - root/rot, HO nukes, stuns, silences, power drains</DIV> <DIV>Mystic - ????</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I don't need a detailed walkthrough, just a general idea of what I have to do to defeat mobs solo, and also what role a mystic brings to a group.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thus far, from checking out the spells, I can see that there are a ton of buffs and heals - thus a priest class. Do mystics do any melee damage? I saw some cold-based nukes, and a dot or two, sort of what shammies had in EQ1. Can mystics be primary healer in a group, or are they more support classes?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Let me know. Thanks!</DIV>

At 29 in the current pre-combat revamp version of the game.... Mystics are back up healers for the most part. If you have some good adept 3s you can maybe keep up as MH for a while, but not nearly as well as a Templar would. Mystics can debuff stamina, strength, divine resist, noxious resist, attack speed, and dps. Mystics have a line of nukes all named Grey something, like Grey wind, etc. We have 2 lines of dots, one noxious, one cold. <div></div>

Also a Mystic can ward the MT so as to help him from taking damage. In some ways that replaces the healing as most of the wards will absorb 600+ hit points of damage before failing. The group ward gotten somewhere between 27 and 30(I can't remember) can absorb 1200 points of damage against the group.

<P>Thanks for the responses so far. Now I understand more of what is expected from a mystic in a group setting.</P> <P>Now, how do mystics go about soloing? I didn't see a root or snare spell in the spell book, but I think there was a fear spell in there. The only tactic that I found to work is to lay on the dots and ward myself as the mob beats on me. This is not a very efficient technique unfortunately. I am still trying out new things and will hopefully get the timing and order down soon. If anyone could offer some solo techniques to try out, I would greatly appreciate it.</P>

have ursine XX up and do the good old "in y0 face" soloing, i.e. face the mob, beat it, stay alive while you stack the dots (and if enough mana nukes) on it. With Maul you get some nice procs now and then. but of course all this will change once the combat changes go live, bearform apparently gets super useless with 3 conc and the maul proc stripped <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> ah, and nope, we dont have any fear spell available, unless you are an ogre and bad hygiene <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <div></div>

One of our aggro reducers does an AE fear, but its on like a 15 minute timer, so it is hardly useful for soloing. As it stands, almost none of the soloing "techniques" used in EQ1 work in EQ2. Mages can kinda root rot, but thats about it. <div></div>

args, forgot about that one spell but yeah, not really useful, just funny when you are in the Bloodskull Valley solo and send 20 mobs running around for a few secs <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> sorry for the not completely true information then <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <div></div>

<div></div>>>>Now, how do mystics go about soloing?<<< My 27 Mystic has been soloing level 30-31 orcs outside the fort in Zek. My procedure has been: Pull with a stamina debuff [Cry of the Ancients], ward myself, do another stamina debuff [Delusion]. Then I just cycle HOs repeatedly. With Orcs, I use [Orc Smite] and [Cold Fire] (DoT), then [Smite] and [Contagion] (also DoT), then continuing cycling HOs with [Smite] and either [Cold Fire] or [Contagion]. I usually refresh my ward once after the first or second HO. I also throw in a [Keening Haze] whenever there is a break (usually waiting for the HO trigger to refresh). It usually takes 4 HO cycles to kill a level 30 or 31 orc. If I am fighting something that I don't have a [XXX Smite] for, my HO cycles are [Cold Fire][Contagion] and [Smite][Smite]. <div></div><p>Message Edited by Zotar99 on <span class=date_text>08-16-2005</span> <span class=time_text>09:59 AM</span>
<P>Zotar's advice is good. I had ignored Cry of the Ancients for soloing.</P> <P>Keep your eye on your Grey Wind spell too. I noticed last night that I killed undead caretakers in TS twice as fast by replacing Smite with Grey Wind.</P> <DIV><A href="http://eqjournal.blogspot.com" target=_blank>http://eqjournal.blogspot.com</A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>When soloing, I do what Zotor does with one exception. I ward myself before the pull and wait a tick to get that tick of power back. Then I pull with cry of ancients, followed by delusion/fallacy like he said. After that, I chain HO's with pox/icy flames and greywind/contagion. I re-ward if the mob is a bit tougher, otherwise I just take the little bit of damage after the first ward wears off.</DIV>

I'm 28 now and have moved to EL, fighting level 31-32 yard trash. I've actually swapped my early spells around a bit and now do: Pull with [CotA], then [Delusion] as the mob runs towards me and then [ward]. I've noticed that the first hit a mob does is often a big one and it is better to take the hit and have it mitigated before warding myself - this means that the ward won't be blown away nearly so fast. I follow up with [Cold Fire] and [Miasma] HO. then [smite] [ward] [smite] and throw in [keening haze] whenever I find myself waiting for the HO trigger. I rarely need to ward a third time. </font></font><div></div>

<P>My personal preference when soloing is usually some slight variation on the following:</P> <P>1. Pull with a debuff, usually CotA because it will augment the cold DoT<BR>2. Ward<BR>3. Start HO and complete with the 2 DoT's<BR>4. Another debuff<BR>5. Start HO and complete with Grey direct dmg line and/or a Mastery blast if fighting appropriate creature.<BR>6. Re-Ward if necessary, if not use 3rd debuff<BR>7. HO with DoT's again which will have just expired.<BR>8. Critter usually dead by now.<BR><BR>This sequence allows me maximum use of HO's as the wards and debuffs take place during the time in which the HO starter is renewing. I find Mystics to be excellent at soloing and do not hesitate to take on solo orange or even some red mobs. Heroic greens are also easily doable. Hope this helps and enjoy your Mystic!</P> <DIV>Oh... for what it's worth, I won't debate the relative strengths of Mystics vs other healers, but I have never personally had trouble fulfilling the primary healers role in any group. I make sure my ward is of Adept 3 quality and the rest are just standard Adept 1's.</DIV>
