<DIV>Hi All,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I had my Mystic up to lvl 24 back in early December and just came back a few days ago.  I've gone up to lvl 26 and re-oriented myself fairly well I think.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Today I was fighting a couple of blues, and got an add.  When that third mob was about to fall I got another blue add.  At this point I was down to maybe 100 power points and 10% health.  Long story short is I won the fight.  I was getting enough power regen in combat to keep my health up until the mob died (used a couple of weak pots to though).  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The thing is that last add took forever to kill.  It seemed like in the time it took to melee kill that mob I could have killed 6 mobs through normal grinding.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So Mystics don't get great armor but they are the only healer class that gets to use a spear.  Which I always assumed a Mystic could do a least mediocre melee damage.  Now I'm thinking that in a normal kill only 5-10% of the damage dealt is through melee.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have really great gear for my level including a very nice spear.  My peircing damage is maxed.  I don't really expect to be doing good damage with a melee weapon but I never noticed how really weak it is.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Any thoughts?  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>... thanks</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

Melee damage is almost nonexistant in the big picture.  Smite ho's are, and will continue to be, your friend. <div></div>

I've sustained about 225 dps on a mystic raid buffed.

i guess poac has problems differing between EQLive and EQ2, both from mindset and from the dps values <span>:smileyvery-happy:</span> <div></div>

Yea, that might be about right for an EQLive Shaman.  I dunno, seems really high.  Remember, in EQLive you could only have 8 spells memorized at a time.  I suppose if the Shaman totally went DPS he might do it, but rarely could you do that. Typically, a Shaman would have 3 damage spells at his disposal.  I ran with: Blood of Saryrn:  250ish per tick Breath of Ultor:  130ish per tick Bane:  420 per tick Those three were worth about 130 DPS if you could stick them all without drawing aggro (a HUGE problem) or getting one or more resisted (a significant problem). I believe my total lineup was: Malos Turgurs Insects Quiescence Tnarg's Mending Breath of Ultor Blood of Saryrn Greater Immobilize Cannibalize IV <div></div>

in full burst mode a better (raid)geared shaman was able to get a bit higher dps values though <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> but we are talking EQ2 here, and although i am far from being raid geared i doubt that is a valid number, especially when considering poac's statement on slows in the other thread (or the posting history <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />) <div></div>

Oh sure, if I were to take out debuffs, cann, heals and just mem all my DoT's, yea, I could probably get to 200+ DPS by adding Bane of Nife, Pox of Bertox and Anathema to my active spells.  With BoN, Pox, Bane, BoU, BoS & Anathema in memory, I'd be recasting so often that I wouldn't have time to do anything else . . . and I suppose I could whip out dogdog for another 30 DPS or so. Yea, I might make 225 if I wasn't doing ANYTHING but DPS . . . unfortunately in comparison to what other classes could do, 225 would still be pretty low, and dear god where would you find a Warrior who could hold aggro against all that?  A SK *might* be able to, but he wouldn't last long against the mobs you'd want to use that many DoT's on. Bah, I get frustrated just thinking about it again. <div></div>

Imbued weapons are your friend. (if you dont have one already!)  I like the ones with the 5% proc. <p>Message Edited by Godflower on <span class=date_text>07-15-2005</span> <span class=time_text>01:28 PM</span>

Hardened Metallic Hammer for the win, if you are talking Priest DPS only.  I don't know why you'd want to, but that weapon would be it. <div></div>

It makes no sense to me.<p>Message Edited by Nature on <span class=date_text>07-16-2005</span> <span class=time_text>02:24 AM</span>

His DPS isnt unheard of, with AOE thats possible, seeing as every 20 seconds he could be hitting a group of about 12ish mobs for 300+dmg + dots+ smite chains, its doable, but hardly to be considered a baseline for mystic DPS. <div></div>

It's not 12 mobs, it's 7 or 8.  I do this raid ALL THE TIME and I know what we are capable of on this raid, and what Defilers are capable of. 200 DPS is not Priest DPS.  Our Defiler busts his butt to hit 150 DPS and he is mostly Ad3 with a few Masters. <div></div>
