I am a level 36 Mystic and I'm having a heck of a time trying to kill the champion in the solo arena in SP. I searched the Splitpaw forum and wasn't able to find any insight from a fellow Mystic. Has anyone been successful and would you be so kind as to share your wisdom with those of us who aren't so wise?

Thanks in advance.

Piah

Innothule

No luck here at 37. I seem to run out of power before the mob is halfway dead.

Hi There - Level 43 Mystic here.

Can't tell you exactly how to beat this guy at your level - but I can tell you what worked at mine. Maybe it will give you some ideas. This guy beat me 4 times at level 42 - got close to killing him each time, but still got owned.

I went and bought a cedar imbued wand for 60 g - the one that casts a 240-400 damage fireball. Came back at 43 and used the following strategy to beat him (just):

Opened with debuff from hex doll. Next cast Howl of the Ancients to debuff heat and other resists. Then stacked debuffs (Mourning Soul, Haze, Fallacy). Then alternated HOs using Pox and Icy Flames with casts from my fireball wand. Used both my emergency wards during fight (Fading Spirit and Eidolic Ward). When I got low on power, just kept Mourning Soul on him, nuked using wand and instant healed myself whenever power refreshed.

Finally killed him and got my glowing shard and a mounted pigs head. Got down to red health myself a few times during the fight.

Good luck - finally beating him is a great feeling :smileyvery-happy:.

Daric

Level 43 Mystic

The Old Guard

Najena Server

After a few close attempts I found something that worked.

I casted sow and equipped my Jboots. If you dont have Jboots a sow totem will do the trick.

As he slowly walked up I casted my Biggest grp ward and then I used my Hex doll that slows Movement speed (the Agi or wis one, I forget which),

Once he was slowed I was able to run around in a circle and he stood in the middle and really didnt chase much. He just stood there and casted all his Dots which seemed to drain a good chunk of his Power. My ward was able to block most of this. Then I used my 15min recast wards that I can cast while moving. I also used a few shots of my Imbued wand for some on the fly dmg.

As soon as he was down to 20% power I was able ot fight him straight up, I had about 40% hp and 30% power when he fell.

You might not have to do the run and gun technique, but it seemed if given the chance to chase or nuke you he picks nukes(dots).

The same plan worked on the next difficulty but it took more shots of the Imbued wand and I was around 10-20% hp/pow at the end of the next fight. But the reward was the same on both setting so pride is the only motivator.

I do have some good gear and almost all my spells are ad3+.

A definate challenge for us, but very doable. I feel bad for Encs in there.

Honestly, that guy is a pain in the [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot]. I have no real good advice on how you could kill him, Lily, unless Smittz way works for you. I did defeat him, but I'm 50, have every spell adept3 or master, and I used all my 15 min wards, and still depended on my Screaming Mace to proc so I could heal myself that last little bit before he beat my [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot]. I was read and half a bub of mana when he died (after a heal and a screaming mace proc). For those reading who have some sort of good mana regen or the screaming mace, here's what I did: I started out warding myself, then threw every debuff on him. I kept a ward up during the whole fight (at some points using the 15 min wards when mana was low) Nuked/dotted as I could. I initially used my Prismatic which was probably dumb, because I didn't think to use the Screaming Mace until I was [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] near dead. I recommend starting with the Screaming Mace so that it will proc constantly throughout the fight. Good luck to everyone!! He's definitely a big [Removed for Content]. I can't imagine how anyone could do the difficult setting of that zone.

It's good to know that there is hope, however, I think this sorely underequiped Mystic won't be defeating the Champion for at least a few more levels. Thanks for all the tips and hints .. I'll be referring back to them I'm sure.

Piah

Innothule

I beat him on my first try at level 50. I just kept him slowed and healed myself until he was OOP using smite to trigger HOs while he burned off his power. Once he was OOP I used DOTs to finish him off. I ended with about 15% health and no power. I have used this tatic twice and it worked both times. Smite is a great tool to do HO damage because the power cost is so low.

As a L50 Mystic, I was able to solo both normal and difficult settings, and had champion down to 5% on very difficult setting (L57 mob). I think if I had of brought my screaming mace instead of prismatic then things would have turned out differently due to proc'ing.

For very difficult setting, I found using dots etc a waste of vital power, you will need as it is a long fight. I simply used mourning soul as needed, ensured master Ward was always up, and just auto attack melee, nothing else. I still went down using this tactic, but again, having the screaming mace proc a cple of times throughout (it WILL proc more if you stop chain casting dots/nukes/debuffs) will change the outcome.

This is essentially the same approach I use when killing green / blue group heroic mobs

Will go find out this evening.

I'm currently level 36 and I almost got him before I ran out of power, was a challenging fight! I've gotten a few items to help prepare for my next attempt and after reading your strategies, I have a few new strategies to try also. :smileyhappy: I'm also about to ding 37, and I am hoping to get to the point of almost dinging before I go back into the arena. Do yall think that would make much of a difference if I level once inside the arena? Would that make him a bit easier?

I beat the champ on my first try too. I really didn't have any strategy in mind, and it kind of surprised me to hear that so many are having trouble with him. I understand I am a well equipped and knowledgable player, but the event didn't strike me as difficult. Basically what I did was kept myself warded for the most part, cured the dots he cast occaisionally so as to not incur unnecessary damage, and chained HO's till he was dead. My two dots and one nuke are all just adept 1. The strategies of the above posters all sound reasonable for success as well. I will best him again and pay attention better to the encounter so perhaps I can offer up a little more advise than this.

Good luck,

I can't offer a lot of help for a level 36 mystic, but I'll tell you what I did as a 48 and 49th level mystic. I open with chimerik, throw on howling haze, then go into auto attack mode. Open a HO, pox, icy flames. If you get a resist, use something else to finish the HO. Throw on mourning soul, howl of the ancients. This gives just enough time for another HO to be ready. Open a HO, contagion, ire of the grey. About time to heal here, then begin repeating. If you have it, use the new heal bounty of the virtuous. It heals you and has a chance to return the power you used to cast it plus a tiny bit more. Keep chimerik, mourning soul, and howling haze on him at all costs the entire match. You need him to be weakened so he hits you for less. When your debuffs are firm and your hp has dropped some, use your emergency wards where appropriate. Don't waste them by casting them when vital debuffs are about to fall off of him. Cast HO's religiously and don't recast DOTs that are already on him unless they are seconds from falling off. Don't cast any damage spell outside of a HO, you'll get less punch for the power. Keep Icy Flames on him as much as possible as it is the most damaging spell in your arsenal. Make sure you have avatar and aqueous spirit on you pre-fight. If you have the bloodlines ability umbral trap, it would help too. That's essentially it. I use one ring, a ring of wisdom though others would be useful. You can also use hex dolls though I don't always do so. I am 100% win against the champ on normal difficulty with this strategy, after four match ups so far.

Message Edited by Jeridor on 07-06-2005 03:16 AM

Yah, Screaming Mace is a pretty big factor as to whether or not the champion is gonna go down. I haven't even beaten him yet, as i haven't gotten the mace. I do have above average gear (prismatic, half fabled gear) and adept3 or master 1 heals/buffs/debuffs, but both times i tried i ended up getting killed when the champion was at like 2%. I know i can kill him, but it seems that its gonna take a mild stroke of luck on my part.
Message Edited by Muad`Dib on 07-06-2005 02:32 PM

I usually play a guardian/mystic duo, so I'm not at all used to soloing with my mystic, but I decided to try the arena with my mystic (lvl4 after being soundly beaten several times on my guardian (lvl49). Perhaps it's because I didn't know any better, but I just debuffed him and went toe to toe (in teh face, if you prefer :smileywink:) with him right from the start, meleeing, and using my dots to trigger HOs, and I managed to beat him with no power and about 5% health. My gear and spells are nothing special... Mostly non-rare player crafted stuff, and app4 or adept I spells, since I don't roll against anyone for drops with my Mystic.

I did the same thing with my lev 45 shaman and he killed me with half of his health left. I debuffed him and melee'd him while trying to keep my ward up and used HO's to try and damage him as efficiently as possible. My equipment is also average player crafted and I had no potions or hex dolls or embued equipment. I really don't understand how players are having such widely different experiences with the champion. Is he spawning with different randomly distributed stats, or something? How can one 40ish mystic just walk in and take him out with no special equipment or potions while others can't. I would think it was play styles or just that some players are better at playing their character than others, but I'm beginning to think there's something more than that going on here.

Wife's lv45 Mystic took him down. Non-rare crafted armor (all imbued), Ad1 spells with Ad3 heals and wards, no kiting strategy, no potions. Just toe-to-toe with Manastone. Was one of her hardest fight ever she says.

At that time, she didn't think about waiting for him to empty his power pool, or wait for his DS to drop.

yeah, managed to kill him (normal version) yesterday as lvl 45 mystic on my third try :smileyvery-happy: and by hell it was definitely my very closest fight i had in ages. i have just normal (non-rare) pristine stuff, all spells adept1, no adept III's or masters, pristine (not imbued) cedar club and wore SBS, used all kinds of potions i got and did the baby-HO version. in the end we both were oop and in the very red hps, all instant-wards etc. used, his debuffs faded and i just had Eidolic Saviour available ... and it was kinda the second time it triggered and i managed to hit him a last time with my baby-ho. In the end i survived with amazing 12 hp's

I got him to 3% last night with a shard missing (dont ask). I expect to kill him tonite rather easily. One thing you might consider using if you've made L50 is Oberon. (I know, I can't believe I said it either) If you have him fully debuffed (that is VERY important) you can throw up Oberon and basically get a break from damage to regen mana / health while he beats on the Ward. Screaming Mace is a great idea, I should probably finish mine.

I use a Clarity potion, but it really doesn't do all that much. The trick is, and you are gonna love this, Oberon. Hit the mob with all your debuffs . . . . Howl, Chimerik, Haze, Mourning . . . land your 3 DoT's and then throw up Oberon. It will keep up with his damage for a while, long enough for him to blow a lot of power and for you to regen some. Perhaps consider a health regen potion (does it exist? I dunno.). Throw down the badger right before Oberon and pop the health regen right after. I can beat him about 75% of the time. On Easy mind you, I dont think I could beat him on Difficult of VD.

I was finally able to beat this last night at level 41, somewhere near my 10th attempt. Strategy was much like posts above: Lead off with Cry of the Ancients, Mourning Soul, Delusion, Haze. Cast HOs as often as I could using Contagion / Smite, and always kept Ancestral Ward up. Recast Soul/Delusion/Haze just as they were about to wear off.

Often, immediately after casting ward, I'd use Manastone (net gain of 100ish power), then recast ward. I also used four or so charges of a Power Regen potion throughout the fight, which really helped a lot.

One new item for me that also seemed to help was the pristine imbued cedar buckler. It proc'd several times, not a ton of total damage, but it may have been the difference. Finished fight at 20% health and 0 power.

Hya Fellow Mystic, i have no pb killing champion following this strat : - Ward before engage, - Howl of the ancient ( pull ), - Chimere, - Mourning Soul, - Haze, - SP Heal spell ( bounty of Virtuous ), - attack with screaming mace, - use cure poisons to avoid debuff and dot from champion, when he is oom just keep mourning soul on him and start oh with contagion. If you come low on mana use an instant ward ( 0mana) and clic manastone. I hope this could help a bit

I'm still working on a strategy but first, if you are going to melee with any mob, get into bear form for the Maul and stat buffs. Maul works in here like it used to (at least before the 7/20 update), that is 4 to 8 rapid hits for the DD and then the DOT. I can get the guy down to 17% before I get owned (I usually am at 80% health at this time). I currently am trying to get him to burn all his power casting, all my resists are 1500+ and almost everything is resisted or drops as soon as it lands.

It seems that he will fight your fight. Cast results in cast, melee results in melee. If he has any power left to melee you, he will insta own you with his combat arts.

With my strat mixed with some of the below, I think I will finally own this dog.

Don't try to attack him at the outset. Don't even turn on autoattack. Debuff him, Ward or Heal yourself, whichever is more efficient based upon your mitigation. (50% mitigation is the breakpoint). Cure any effects he puts on you. You can do HO's with Smite and Contagion (power efficient), so definitely do that. Once he burns all his power, you own him. The key here is to stay defensive and win over the long run. Scouts, Fighters and Mages can try to "kill the champ before he kills me" in a 90 second flurry, but we will LOSE that type of fight.

Like a 10% Slow, overwritten by Haze. Some minor ability debuffs. If you were a Templar or something, yea, might be good, but Mystics have Slow covered already and the skill debuffs aren't really very noticeable.

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this, but it seems that all my attack speed debuffs stack.

Key is to make sure you cause him to burn all his power. The Champion's combat arts don't use too much at a time and 2 or 3 hits are you are toast. Got me for 3 x 900+ last night. I'm looking at a nice combination of potions to jack up them stats. Getting cheapies to see if they stack. As I said earlier, I can get him to 15% without too much issue. Then the 'ole power runs out. There is a potion that give +56 power every 5 seconds with a nice initial power boost.

The icons may all show up, but everything that I have seen says that the speed dubuffs do not stack. Do you have any parsed data to back this up, or is it just a feeling? With slows only effecting the auto-attack damage (which only accounts for 30-40%), it is easy to think/feel that these would stack without actually looking at the numbers.

Banditman

Yes, the icons all show up because of secondary effects that may (or may not) be tied to each.
