The water adds confusion with clouded haze and disorienting motion. I cast Haze blindly and the next thing I know I’m in the orange. I see a skells face looking up at me, OMG All of them, on me!! I swim to the west side shore for better footing and visibility. The grp needs no heals so I hunker down in defense mode until grp answers my cry for help. Octagorgon falls, and then help arrives. The battle is over; I’m still alive casting only Haze and self Healing spells. We’re back on shore… Pal 37 says “I don’t think we can do Captain Ulssissaris the Epic+++ x2”. We all heartily agree. Cnj 35 says “Hell, wanna try?” We all say, “ah, Sure y not”. We buff, and this time Pal 37 asks “Rdy?”, we pose to strike,…

What do you think happened?...

Pal 37 and Cnj 35’s pet strike almost simultaneous as soon as Ulssissaris has risen. Cnj 35’s pet strike wins agro. Before I finish a full round of de-buffs, I’m healing the grp. I use the heal potion first on the Pal 37. Hits are flying left and right. A steady drain on the group from Ulss and a steady drain on Ulss from us. It’s a tug of war back and forth and clearly this is going to take a long time. The Cnj35’s pet falls and I hit the Elixer of Vision for a much needed power boost, then at a critical point in the battle, POW! Ulss strikes out with some AoE or something that makes HP drop hard and fast on me, the Pal37 and the Brg36. Now hints of chaos and panic quickly flood the grp. I’m soon again very low on power and the 2nd pet falls and Ulss is quick to take out the Brg36 shortly after. Then He turns on the Pal37. He is clearly going to make short work of him. A quick combat rez of Brg36 and We are All in the red including Ulss. This Is Going To Be Close. Everyone is out of power. The gloves come off. It’s kill or be killed. POW, Pal37 falls. POW, Brg36 falls. Ulss turns on the Cnj35. OGM- The red HP bar on Ulss is gone from sight and he’s still comin... I can Maybe get one more imbued fir ward strike in If I start it now. POW, the Cnj35 falls.

Ulss turns to me…POW…

The fir wand lands a successful blow.

Captain Ulssissaris falls.

We all exhale and there is a moment of silence just before the chat board Fills with comments of exhilaration.

My point...The game to me IS fun if I Make it fun. I try not to base it on or compared to someone else’s character or someone else’s fun. My Mystic held his own as a de-buffer, as a healer, and as a fighter. As a Mystic it took every ounce of my skills and resources to task and we all came out victorious. The title “GROUP” x2 used by many is totally misleading to me. Take the “group” out of the title lingo, it doesn’t apply. With all the good, bad and ugly in the game, Mystics are very challenging to play but I would not play any other. Antonia Bayle knows, you level 50 players know better then I do, Annoyingly aggravating at times, I face many obstacles in our spells and in plain old public relations with perception from others players. I Play first to have fun, Then, play to win. Maybe that will help me get by until we get out of Beta, maybe that will help you too. Have a good weekend and fight hard!

Message Edited by BonesMandu on 05-20-200502:09 PM

Message Edited by BonesMandu on 05-20-2005 02:10 PM

With a tank that is 6 levels above the mob, I would not be surprised if you were able to beat him. When there is that much of a level difference, the tank just doesn't take that much damage.

Furthermore, your tank (being a pally) was able to heal himself, and considering the level, his heals were likely on par with yours.

Now, granted that Ulssissaris does have some attacks that are still going to hit this guy, but the point should be well made.

Heck, I went into CoD and we had a 37 druid tanking this mob, and we were able to beat him. I can only imagine that a similar level pally was able to do the same feat, and probably fare much better.

Edited for grammar

Message Edited by Terq on 05-20-2005 09:58 AM

Mst 31, Brg 36, Pal 37, Cnj 35. vs Captn Uulissa?

Very very long battle, but with a careful use of slivers from the Conjuror, and careful aggro management so only the paladin gets walloped, probably doable. The level of the Paladin alone makes the biggest difference. Lower it by 3 levels, and you are dead meat.

If Paladin and Mystic have manastone already, will help alot.

Message Edited by Loralor on 05-20-2005 10:28 AM

A 37 *anything* could tank Octo and win. Hazing this mob is the one situation where Haze can make the encounter "work" . . . I said long long ago in one of my first analysis posts that pushing a low green mob down one more level with Haze will basically castrate the encounter. I didn't think it was a big deal then and I don't think it's a big deal now. The mob was green to your tank, and frankly that's all that matters. It's the same thing people do with Descendant of the Torig in Cauldron Hollow. Just take a tank to whom the mob will be green and healing is meaningless because your tank will rarely get hit. Which brings me back to what I've been saying for months now regarding Mystic healing . . . You are not playing a MH if you never have to heal the tank.

I am glad you had fun with your mystic, that you found a situation where you were key to the group's success.

The fact of the matter is: A druid or cleric would have likely been able to keep the whole group up. Although a challenge is fun, why should you, as a shaman, have to seek lower content to get your challenge as opposted to the other priest classes

I am glad that there are people still left that know how to have fun. You took 4 people in and completed what you set out to do and you had a memorable experience. I am totally bewildered that there are so many people that would come and try to rain on your parade, just trying to cry about mystics. You guys need to grow up or roll a templar and stop trying to bring down the rest of people who have a perfectly enjoyable and fun time with their mystics. I do the craziest stuff ever with my friends and one of the biggest allowing factors is that the mystic class is a great class. I would rather meet/know/play with 1000 of these guys than any one of you nay-sayers, skill lv irrelavent. -quirk

I've done level 50ish groupx2 and x3 encounters with our guild mystic assisting in the main tank group. We would've never gotten by with just me in the group.

Glad to hear there's at least one Mystic out there having fun.

Never *any* hint that perhaps the Mystic should be the primary healer. It was never even a doubt. The Mystic was a secondary healer, he did things that any Priest could have done. Balance is when any Priest can replace any other Priest as the lone healer in any group and maintain viability in identical content. We are not there yet.

Since beta even. Getting a pat on the back from this community is going to be pretty tough when SOE keeps twisting the knife.

Have fun, great. But if you want to be the hero, create a miracle and fix the unbalanced priest classes.

The OP went into the zone, told us who was in the group, what he was fighting, and then asked what we thought happend. I posted honestly, since I had recently done CoD where the 37 Warden in the group ended up tanking for most of the encounter. Was it by design, no, but it nonetheless ended up that way.

So, responding to the OP, I told him that a tank being 6 levels above the mob that they were fighting is not going to require that much in the way of healing. If my group was able to do this with a lightly armored healer tanking the mob, I am sure that the OP was able to do it with a heavy armored pally of equal level.
