View Full Version : WSS vs. Ancestral Ward - What am I missing?

Dinged 26.6 last night (where, unsurprisingly, my wards generally fell to the first blow, my debuffs were unnoticeable and I was OOM following most fights) - my reward was Ancestral Ward.  Having chosen WSS at lvl 20, I compared the two only to find my WSS was the superior ward.  Even if I upgraded to Adept 1, WSS still was the better ward.  What am I missing here?   <div></div>

<P>WSS is adept 2, thats a start of the reason.</P> <P>Secondly, spells grow in effectiveness over time.  When Ancestral becomes white, it will be better than WSS.  </P> <P>Of course at that point the no mitigation of wards really starts to show through and wards just dont work that well anymore.</P>

Thanks.  Is there any advantage to stacking these two wards? <div></div>

Keep the tank alive slightly longer waiting for your direct heals to recycle? <div></div>

I trend to stack wards with the non-healing ward on top and then the healing ward on the bottom. That way the non-healing ward will eat up damage from the mob while i get my debuffs in. This hopefully leaves the healing ward up long enough to save me some mana healing later. I also find the the group wards that incorporate the healing effect to be very usefull in groups where casters are taking some but not alot of damage. Generally by the end of the wards life they will get some healing from it and that allows me to focus more on the tank.

Hi.  Welcome to Mystic 101. Your Wards don't heal. Class dismissed. <div></div>

<P>They say the do in the delve.... but they don't.</P> <P> </P> <P>Broken spells or a remnant from beta or both.</P> <P> </P> <P>Shaman are suffering from post nerf traumatic syndrome from beta.  In beta wards were the best form of healing/preventative damage.  They got (over) nerfed just before release as usual and we are suffering from that day forward.</P> <P> </P> <P> </P> <P> </P>

I suppose my point is that anyone who doesn't know that Wards don't heal has no place coming here telling the Mystic community how to do their job. I knew about 45 seconds after I cast my first Ward that it didn't heal on expiration. <div></div>

<DIV>hmmmm, so that health regen I see on my casters from wards durnig melee combat is all in my head? Neat.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>BTW, my right to post my opinions is not up to you. If my advice is not to your liking or my game experience is not the same as yours I am sorry. But you should not lump everything I have to say into one basket simply becuase your game experience is not what mine has been. I would suggest you pay more attention to your group wards when cast during melee especially on people who are not being hit. Focus less on your MA and more on your casters and yourself to see. The wards does not heal if it absorbs dmage to its maximum that is correct but it will if it has not. Either that or casters who are getting my wards have some other kind of health regen above and beyond food/time.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>Ok the guy read the spell description and mistakenly assumed it did what it said without testing it properly.</DIV> <DIV>How bout we save the vitriol for the people who actually broke the spell in the first place.</DIV>

No Ice, he completely doesn't understand Wards. He thinks he's actually seeing healing when a Ward expires.  I mean, seriously, I don't know any other way to say it.  Completely and totally wrong about what is "supposed" to be our Class defining ability. Wait til he figures out the part about mitigation. <div></div>

Wakinya's Skin of Spirits. Superior to Spectral Ward Ad 3, probably superior to Spectral Ward Master I. <div></div>

funny thing is.. WSS adds to arcane mitigation. I wonder what good that does when wards dont take mitigation into consideration /boggle

Wards of the Eidolon are even worse... It gives a significant amount of mitigation vs all physical while its up, but of course, the ward itself does not mitigate, and once it expires the mitigation bonus goes with it. <div></div>

I'd be a lot more interested in seeing a log of Wards healing upon expiration. Since every Mystic in the game has the same spells, and none of us experience this, could you please provide this so we know what we're all doing wrong?  k,thx. <div></div>
