Its hard to pare them down, so I just have them organized in sections, based on how much they heal (if they are a heal) in order from greatest to least, and then a utility section in a non keypress bar (have to hit it with a mouse) for longer term buffs that I dont cast continuously.. etc.. One of the biggest helps was getting a 3/4 hotbar mod from www.eq2interface.com so it saves on screen real estate..

I have hotbars 1-3 onscreen and I never change them. They have important combat stuff like heals, cures, nukes, debuffs, etc. I have a 4th hotbar that I use as a rotating set. I spin it between panels 4, 5, and 6. Buffs, utility spells, and other odds and ends are on those panels.

If your computer can support it you'll probably want to increase your resolution so you can fit more hotbars on your screen. I have six hotbars on screen at all times (four along the bottom, two near the top), and another two hidden behind the group window with one slot each sticking out so if I mouse-over the area they pop up on top of the group window (for more rarely used spells: call of the overlord, illusions, certain macros, etc). It's hard to explain but maybe it'll help, here's a pic (you can't see the two hidden bars in the pic): My Hotbar Layout
Message Edited by darkshmoo on 08-11-2005 05:53 PM

As for number of items on hotbars.. well for my inq I have heals, cures, attacks, macros for HOs (3 different HO flavors), macros for agro notifications (easier to hit 1 key that says "Eeek! I am being attacked" or "warning, incoming agro!" than it is to type all that out in battle)... I also have harvesting keys, activatable slots (hex dolls, horse whistle, potions, etc), activatable items (rings of imbued stat) and so on.. Do I need the lower level spells? no, not always.. but often enough that it justifies having them on my bar... I can remember the first time I figured out that "hey they are still useful" when I was duoing varsoon with a guardian. We were both out of mana and still slowly whittling away on varsoon who was doing the same to the tank, but for very low damage amounts... on a hunch I tried out Minor Healing... It turned out that I could chain cast that and regen as much power as it consumed before it was available to cast again.. giving JUST enough healing to keep the tank alive while virtually with no power. Now, looking at other situations.. I have my current heal thats approximately 230 health per hit as a reactive.. and I have Bestowal of Vitae that heals 115 per hit... but BoV takes less power than the current one... so if the tank is only getting whacked for 100 or under, and not often enough to expire BoV fast, why not use the lower level spell and save power for when you need it. They are redoing all the spell lines so stuff will be on the same timer, and their intention seems to be making it so we will ONLY want to cast our current stuff... well I personally still think I will be using lower level heals in some of the same situations... for the reason that now we will draw agro on reactives now too.. so why use a bigger heal that isn't needed? yeah I am probably worrying for nothing but I still look at (fake numbers here) a heal for 115 that costs 40 power being more appropriate for 100 point hits than a heal for 235 that costs 50 power for 100 point hits... thats a waste of 135 points of healing and 10 points of power ( currently the power difference is bigger).. After the changes I will be checking stuff out and verifying if I -do- need to keep the low stuff, but I strongly suspect I do.. As for other classes, I know a tank that has a hotbar full of nothing but group interaction macros, like pull comments, instructions to the group, etc... it's all play style

48 Fury Here, I've been running with 4 Hotbars till about 2 levels ago, I've just recently added a 5 so I could organize better, I have about 4 or 5 slots free. Good Luck.

Level 40 and still using 3 here. 1st is nukes/debuffs, 2nd is heals, 3rd is buffs. I have bar 0 set up for recall, yell for help, sprint, and other misc crap I don't need instant access to.

I just drop spells I don't really need to use anymore; like smite and effloresence (Wildling Elixir does fine for a big heal) no point in keeping Regrowth or Fleshweave around since they don't stack with Wild Bloodflow anyway. The master smite spells I switch out depending where I'm hunting.

at 1600x1200 resolution using the 3/4 size hotbar mod on eq2interface.com you can get ALOT of hot bars on there.

I find 3 full length

1.) Nukes and single target heals

2.) Group heals, debuffs, and short term buffs

3.) Cures, Rez's, etc

then 1 that is 4 wide and 3 tall

4.) Long term buffs

and one that is 12 tall but 1 wide up the side of the screen

5.) Sow, Sprint, Call for help, Illusions, Invis, Call of Qeynos, etc (if it's not on the bottom of the screen you are highly unlikely to hit this stuff unless you REALLY mean to)

I have a few "empty" slots which is good... I use them to seperate out catagories... (sucks to want a debuff and hit a group heal.)

I highly suggest trying higher resolutions... it didn't have nearly the impact on performance that I had thought... if I can run around at 1600x1200 on a Geforce FX 5900 then alot of you can.... and that 3/4 hotbar is almost required IMHO.

50 fury here... I'm a big minimalist, so I only have 4 hotbars up:primary = heals (bloodflow, efflo, elixir, salve, and bounty), cures (all except melee), group heals (direct and regen), and emergency heals (single and group)secondary = HO starter, training chill, strike of storms, whirlwind, dooming, intimidation, irritating, starfire, invis, open bags macro, brambles, toxic quillstertiary = predator, ferocity, ferine mask, ferine spirit, vim, bat, bloodlust, fae flames, barbed skin, porcupine, group rez, battle rezquaternary = activatable 1, activatable 2, ring, fairie fire, blank, CoQ, rust monster illusion, lightning illusion, blank, sow, potc, rezas you can see, i don't have any grey spells (except fairie fire... quick cast pulling spell) and i get by fine. have yet to need cure trauma, so that is not on there either. if i ever have occasion to cast any other spell, it is easier to dig through my spell book than clutter up my screen with useless hotbars (and for the record, i also run at 1600x1200, and use 3/4 hotbars, so screen real estate is not the issue, clutter is.

Hahahah good point on the cure trauma, maybe I'll ditch that zero too.

Although how you get by without Bloom I don't know. It also sounds like you don't have the group-cure versions of cure poison and elemental? I'd go into some huge, "omgwth you need those!!!!" speach about now but all of those are going away with the revamp it seems anyway.... heh.... heh... /cry.

Wait you don't have either 15 min recast heals (IE sylvan touch and the group one who's name escapes me) on a hotbar either? We live very, very different lives... >
