<DIV>just curious who took the charm animal achievement spell.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>i am always reading in this forum that there are almost no animals in kos and therefore it would be senseless. but hey, now a new addon is announced with a forest-like setting and i am sure to find lots of animals to charm there and my spell will surely be masterlevel until this addon comes out. so i guess i have made a very, very good choice to choose this line. although everyone here is saying this spell sucks, it is one of the spells i use the most. even wenn i am questing with a group - it makes a huge difference if you have a charmed snake in scornfeather at your side which does 200-300 damage with every hit + additional poison to tank for you or not. together with my nukes i am the one who does lots of damage in such a group - more than the scouts do over the time.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>so to everyone reading this forum: beware what you read here - especially in the warden forum. there are lots of discussions going on which spells to use and which spells suck and i have found out that the spells that are said to suck (e.g. hierophantic genesis) work perfect for my playstyle. and with the new addon announced i am even more convinced that my choice was very good - the agi and wis line seem to work great for my warden and he is currently quite unique on the pvp server i play. never have seen another warden with animal charm here <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

its not worth the effort unless you really want the .4 faster ticking regenthe charm is fluff, if you charm a heroic 3 animal it hits and tanks as if it is a 3 arrow down mob, but when charm breaks hits you as if it was heroic 3 up... in essence its not worth doing unless you want to play at making the biggest owlbear on the planet<div></div>

<P>No way I'm taking the 3 concentration slot hit. Even when I solo, I use 4 slots. I just can't justify taking away those kind of buffs for me.</P> <P>Plus the fact that if you use the charmed pet too much during battle, you won't get much exp off the kill. My question to the devs is "why bother" on something like that? It's just... pointless.</P>

<P>I tried the charm, I'm pretty sure the spell just rock in DoF since there are alot of animals arround that can be charmed, but in KoS it's almost 100% useless.</P> <P>Another thing is I'm a raid warden, having this spell won't help the raid at all and it's better to take other AA abilities that provide the raid some aid.</P>

<DIV>I solo alot with my warden lately and I find the dps addition from the charmed pet invaluable.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>At level 67 I have charm animal at adept 1 level (5pts) and the pet's damage output rivals the wolfpack, plus it's persistant. You can use the pet to tank for you if you're fighting easier stuff or use it to offtank an add. It's pretty handy in my opinion.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I think the lack of animal type mobs in KoS is really killing the reviews for this ability. I was wishing the other day that I was 50 again with this because it would be great fun in DoF.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The 3 conc. cost is a bit harsh and I do think it's probably too high for a creature-type limited ability. I also play a 67 coercer and having to give up the buffs on the warden sure hurts alot more, but I still think it's worth it. I'm hoping with the new expansion being set in Faydark that there will be more charmable animals available to us.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Just to point out a bit what the power gain is like with the charm upgrades: At app1 charming the wastestrider spiders in bonemire, the pet would hit for around 70 melee dmg, at adept 1 it's hitting for around 200. The earlier poster is right, the pet  (no matter what its con was before) will have its HPs reduced to being the equivalent of a no-arrow mob if it had any up-arrows before so it can tank solo stuff with a little help. To send it up against heroic stuff is just silly though <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

<DIV>I took the charm line and I'm happy with it.  I could wish it didn't take 3 slots though.  I agree if it only took 1 that'd be a bit too little but I'd perfer it only took 2.  Still, I use it sometimes.  I don't bother using it in groups very often and never in raids.  I use it most often when I solo.  The extra DPS helps some but it also has one nice situational use.  In an area where an animal is basically camping a ground spawn point for a ? or harvest node it's a very quick way to get the node and move on by just charming the animal and then I have the pet with me to do things as needed.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I just hit the faster HoTs and my HoTs are landing and a fury in the same group had theirs failing because my upgraded ones were superior to theirs.  Just more info on the line.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Not sure if the end ability is really useful or not.  My guild has commented that they think it'll make me a great addition in a healer / caster group in a raid as I can save them from all the AoEs.  Since I don't have that yet to test it I don't know how useful that will really be.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Back to animals... it's been somewhat helpful in DoF.  I've spent a lot of time harvesting in Sky and some grouping there and don't think charm will be much help there.  I remember reading somewhere there were really only about 4 animal types in DoF to charm.  <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />  That was early on so some may have been missed.  On the brighter side, however, I have to imagine the next expansion will have significantly more animals in Faydwer we can affect so it could turn out to be a very useful option for that area.  We'll see. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Overall I'd say charm's usefulness rather situational, more suited to soloing, but generally something I'm happy with.</DIV>

<P>since tier 7 has an extremely limited amount of animals to charm this is of little use for the charm, the useful spell in this line would be the final aa tortoise shell as the post before me said...</P> <P>regen haste has only a minor effect but im 50/50 about whether or not its worth capping to step 8 or not (i've tested it at 8 but still not sure if i wanna keep it there or put the 4 pts into something else...)</P> <P>personally i would start with stamina line then decide what aa you like after that, and not get the final 8pt aa for stamina.</P>

i would also like to add that it seems that this might actually be a really nice ability at the very low levels if you are able to get that much aa built up quick enough to use it, there are some zones just loaded with animals to charm for a bit extra dps.
