I am a lvl 26 Inq and have all my spells at at least ad1, is it worth the money to upgrade them to ad3, is there really much of a difference?

Not at your level it isn't. You burn through those levels so quickly its not worth it. Wait untill level 50ish and then start updating. About then its worth it as the time it takes to level gets long enough to warrent spending the cash on the spellz.

I do have a lvl 30 sage, does that make a difference, or should i keep selling those rares?

It really depends. How quickly do you level? How well do you make money? (I.e., are you a serious crafter or harvester or trader or something?) How good is your other gear?Adept 3's usually are a big improvement from Adept 1's. But if you're levelling up pretty quickly, you won't be able to afford many. If you're the sort to turn off combat xp and take your time and see everything, though, they make more sense.(It also depends on your server's economy, of course.)

If you are havesting the rares yourself, defintily make them into spells. Way better then selling and buying gear, since gear has the same limitations on it.

I have a jeweler, sage, and alchemist. When I harvest a rare loam, gem or precious metal I make it into a highly sought after Adept III according to my city (ie in Qeynos Ranger, Freeport Assassin) and sell it for at least twice what the rare is selling for. Then with those proceeds, I go and by two rares. Sell one adept iii, make one for myself, etc, etc. I turned one rare tier 4 ductile loam into a Bloodline Chronicle's Adept III spell for the Ranger/Assassin, and over the course of time, totally decked out my brigand with Adept III's for all of the upgradeable tier 4 combat arts.

If you want to see what difference an upgrade makes thenApp1: 100%App2: 107.7%App3: 113.3%App4: 119%Ad1: 135.9%Ad3: 158.7%M1: 181.4%M2: 187.2%The upgrade path follows an almost perfect linear progression assuming 6 levels to each quality (App 1-6, Ad 1-6, M1-6)Upgrading from Ad1 to Ad3 will result in around a 16.7% increase

Just be sure to check the Quenos Fence (and freeport broker) for master 1 version of the spell you want to make adept 3, sometimes its cheaper to buy a master version spell than the raw + fuel to make an adept 3 spell :smileywink: Can always sell the raws to finance cheap masters =)

Sometimes the master spell is a few goldpieces more expensive than the adept 3 version ... but still a much better bargain =) Just make a goodygoody toon you can mail money to, to go shopping with to avoid the broker fees.

Message Edited by Frostqueen on 09-13-2006 03:30 PM

On Permafrost, Inquisitor masters even up to tier 4 are dirt cheap.

I bought several yesterday for less than 20g each.

Additionally, Adept 3 from one tier is aproximately = to the adept 1 of the next tier up. A master from a lower tier will be better than the adept 1 of the next higher tier.

Leveling up I would get masters when I could, because even after 14 levels, that spell would be better than the adept 1 of the new spell. It allowed me to avoid getting adept 1's at times and upgrading right to adept 3 or better.

As an example, favor of the repentant (adept III, lvl 26) is 120-147, stingin penance (adpet I, lvl 40) is 166-203....FOR master I is 137-168. The power ratio is better on the old adept III or master I than the new adept I, but less powerful.
Message Edited by BlkVpr on 09-21-2006 01:43 PM

As a mage playing person (necro, conjuror, wizard and a illusionist) I get the creeps when I hear people saying you shouldn't upgrade your spells until 50 or 60.

Yes one can do groups an make it up to those levels just fine. If you like being a leech and let everyone else pull your weight also.

Im no hardcore player, but not upgrading atleast your main spell/skills is :smileymad:

I would argue that adept 1s are a suitable entry point for group play. I would never make a decision between players based on spell quality, for single group play.

This 'pulling your weight' thing is very subjective. I know for a fact that if you are healing for your best with your adept 1s and some adept 3'd healer is being lazy and not touching small damage, then you will still outpace them. You need not min-max to your own loss (in cash, perhaps with stress to compete) to still have something to offer. You simply should play your hardest, using what you feel you can afford based on your budget.

I agree that it first comes down to player ability, but Im sorry to say that I have heard to many times a tank whine about me taking aggro and that my class is doing to much damage just to find out that he has only appr 1 on his taunt. No wonder my adept 3 pet with adept 3 buff takes aggro then.
