Hi, I'm not a frequent poster here so be gentle lol. I've been taking an exteneded hiatus from eq2 for work and using my time to learn as much of the collective wisdom of Inqs as I can. My toon is level 70, about 35aa - Max Crit heals & Max hate reduction. So far I haven't invested in any of the final tier abilities & yet to respec. How man 'free' respecs do we get btw?So my guild have been playing around with Tarinax and I wanted to know opinions of this very situational AA.All I can tell is from the incredibly vague description: Protects groups from all undead, lasts 30 seconds, long recast. What experience have you had with Protection from Undead AA ?Is it useful against Tarinax (and other undead's) various AE's, or does it just block his melee & ca attacks?Which other situations might Protection from Undead be useful? Thanks for your input

can I say USELESS ?

Ok, useless it is :smileywink: Going down a full AA line for one mob/type of mob is flat out not worth it.

Message Edited by Listad12 on 08-22-2006 12:37 AM

For the most part, I overlooked this one as to the fact that there are simply not enough undead in the end game to really justify spending 8 points for it. I can use those 8 points in many other places like maxing out the crit heal chance and the casting time reduction. Those will be alot more beneficial to you than the undead protection. But this is just one viewpoint.

Funny you bring this up now because I just did a complete respec on my Quizzy yesterday. I had the WIS line completely filled out and I loved fighting undead. The proc was awsome combined with the massive AOE, however i did a respec because most of the undead mobs are not marked as undead. Nek castle 3 was the final straw for me. When mobs with the word "polltergiest" in there name are not undead there is something clearly wrong. I really didnt mind only using my AAs in specific situations because the roleplay value of being an Exorcist is priceless however the WIS line is truely a waste. Go with every other Quizzy and go INT.

To be perfectly honest I have not tested the undead aa's on Tarinax; however I do know he is not considered a skeleton even though he plainly is the skeleton of a dragon. Also from reports of guild templars their extra damage against undead does not affect him. This could be erroneous information but I am not sure tarinax even qualifies as undead. Granted most of this is speculation on my part based on what other classes have said. I think they made it so he wasn't "undead" as far as game mechanics are concerned to make the encounter just that slight bit more difficult. Even though he is clearly not living!

I know I wasn't a great help but I would suggest not worrying about the undead 8 point aa unless your low level and spend alot of time in RoV or Stormhold or places where there are an abundance of undead. There just isn't enough T7 undead in game to make it a viable choice at lvl 70 for raid encounters

Thanks for the feedback!Tarinax is a [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] for sure, all bones and no breath, neither living, dead or undead. I agree that Protection from Undead seems usless in every other situation and represents a lame buy, but I'm very interested in trying it on Tarinax.Otherwise we may have a case for getting EQ2 Inq's all angry and demand Protection gets looked at again.I mean, it's the final abilitiy on a popular AA line, just how popular is it for lower level inq's? Is there a case for keeping the ability in it's current form or should it be changed?

The thing is though from what I can understand about the undead protection this is that if the mob does more than 50% of your health in damage in 1 hit the protection doesn't help. And since Tarinax is such a meany he is often going to do more than 50% in an attack alot of time.

I dunno though, I am not willing to spend a respec on it though. If you come back with some conclusive evidence that it has a use please share with us. It might be a diamond in the rough or it could just be a piece of petrified dung.

if u wanna go a protection line go divine aura. your not going to tank tarinax with undead protection or avoid the only ae that will kill u and at least u get crit heals outta the deal too
