Hi all,I've recently returned to the game and am playing up an Inquisitor (currently lv23).I got my first AA (Yaulp) and have a question. The description says that is stays on until cancelled, but it seems to turn itself off every now and then and requires a recast?I know that in EQ the Yaulp line was always a fast cast, short duration buff, so I am confused as to whether it should require casting at the start of every fight or not?Any advice would be appreciated Cheers,Aarm D'KarDark Elf InquisitorSplitpaw

Yaulp costs power over time to maintain, if you run out of power it will cancel itself and need recastingOtherwise it should stay on permanently

Aye, it stays on until cancelled, or you if you run out of power. But yes, it is a very short cast time, and it does consume power every second to stay up, so it's a good idea to turn it off after a fight while regaining power, and then putting back up right before the next fight.

I do like the change to make this buff permanent, but ... does anyone else think this spell/buff costs a little too much? I mean 7 power/sec is 28 power/tick in (and out of) combat in addition to the ministration and focus penalties.. for all this you get "only" 20% dps and 20% haste. It doesn't cripple spell casting, but I sure do notice more fizzles on heals while it is up and the focus penalty is nasty for soloing unless you can keep Inspiring Piety up with HOs...Given all this, the only time I use this buff is when I'm in a group and we're clearing out stuff that does not really require much healing and I'm doing my best to provide some dps and using fanaticism. What do you guys think?Tarta - 70 inqui - Guk

You hit it on the head. The only time Yaulp should be up is when your just DPSing on a raid and don't really need to heal or you are soloing. If you have to heal, you shouldn't have it up.

I'm wondering how it calculates the 20%.... I don't see a major difference while dpsing soloing

I understand now *slaps forehead*And if the general feeling is that it sucks for soloing, then THAT would be very important to my levelling.... is it worth using whilst soloing, because i have to admit that I have been using it religiously since I got it!

Message Edited by Huntsekker1 on 05-26-2006 09:14 AM

Message Edited by Huntsekker1 on 05-26-2006 09:17 AM

Until you can start outDPSing your spells with melee (which would probably happen if you followed my AA advancement line over whatever raid preferences your guild has for you) then no, don't leave it on, and instead stick with spells IMO. HOWEVER, if you're the sort who, like me, loves doing ANY quest (including horrible rare mob grey campathons) then by all means, use it!

I really only use yaulp while soloing, and then only for part of each encounter...

pre-cast reactive (if necessary)

root

debuff

cast damage spells

when root breaks, turn on auto-attack melee and cast yaulp (the quick cast time makes this viable)

beat the debuffed mob to death with my 2h weapon

take yaulp off

I try to only use it when I don't need to be casting much if at all, and it really does help my melee DPS become more productive.

It is counter-productive to keep it up all the time while soloing, and it is even worse to have up while you are healing for a group.

Message Edited by Robbpilot on 05-26-2006 08:48 AM
