View Full Version : Height Casting

I rolled a Gnomish Inquisitor recently and have yet to finish any of the racial collection quests. As of now I am encountering a major problem: Line of Sight! My short stature makes it extremely difficult to see past even small, simple objects, like tables. As of now, I have a system of jump casting that works on occasion, and in zones like FG, RoV, and RE we have to just narrowly walk past other mobs to not get agro, leaving me absolutely no room to move or reposition myself. I have been able to semi-compensate by using AoE heals while he is out of sight, but it is becoming increasingly bad as the mobs begin to hit harder and harder and I need to heal more and more, especially the deeper we go and the harder the mobs get. I am trying real hard to get Troll or Ogre collection quests *just need three more bones* but it seems a bit ridiculous that the one place were I thought race really wouldn't count: height, actually is. Any solutions or things I am unaware of that could help me with this problem? Cause as it is now it seems like size does matter...and I am not willing to shell out 50g to finish my collection quests

Hello, my fellow gnomish inquisitor.

It's always good to know there're other gnomish souls out there, expecially inquisitors!!

As for the answer of your question, I don't think there're any specific solutions for that problem. We are born to be short and that's what we have to deal with. Yes, I also experience the same thing as you do time to time, but there were nothing I couldn't deal with. Just one step aside, or just a little jump on the table then everything's just fine. It takes almost no time and doesn't happen alot enough to annoy me. As a matter of fact, I find it very amusing that I have to actually jump to see something. It's just a part of being a gnome and I love being a gnome as much as I love being an inquisitor. :smileywink:

And I think you already got the tip, but in fact that jump casting always works if you do it in a proper way. Just start casting when you're in the highest air. It never fails and you'll get the timing soon

Hmm... Line of sight can be a rather irritating problem sometimes, and while it could be a character height issue, I'm not entirely certain it is. I play a dark elf, and I sometimes have issues with rocks being in my way, even if they only come up to my knees. Of course, that's only when I'm playing back-row healer, which is rare (esp. now that I'm playing PvP :smileytongue:). The best solution, I'd say, is to just wade into battle and stand close to your tank. If ya do, just position yourself behind the mob(s) and you should be fine. In dungeons where there are more obstacles the group will generally try to stay close to each other anyway. I could be wrong with the height thing, of course; I haven't tested it recently. A collection quest may fix the problem, or it may not. If you have any friends running around Kingdom of Sky zones, see if they can keep an eye out for collectables. If they can get the Symbols of the Awakened (I think they're called?) and give em to you, that's at least an extra foot or two of height from the droag illusion, heh. I'd recommend the vampire or gnoll illusions from the first two adv. packs, but they're a pain to get, and you'd need to be 30-40ish. (Sorry, didn't catch your lvl, I'm assuming somewhat low still since you said "recently.") :smileyhappy: A horse might help a little, in outside zones of course, but as you're not lookin to spend much money, I guess that option's out. :smileysad: -Daenath X'Deus 70 Teir'Dal Inquisitor, Nektulos 38 Teir'Dal Inquisitor, Nagafen

I remember one time, standing exactly same place as a half elf templar to avoid AE, where he had no difficulty at all but I had to jump everytime I cast, lol. We laughed so much over it.
Message Edited by Cranberry on 05-17-2006 11:09 AM

Ah, good. Then ignore the doubt in my post. Now that I think about it, I do think I've seen short races jumping to see past stuff I can. Hilarious stuff, you have my sympathy~ :smileyhappy: But I do hate when I can't see past something that doesn't even come up to my waist... :smileysurprised: -Daenath X'Deus 70 Teir'Dal Inquisitor, Nektulos 38 Teir'Dal Inquisitor, Nagafen

I picked a troll and he has a problem too. When I jump down and land in certain pools of water, while others can do it fine, sometimes I get hurt very badly. I ended up having to use a transformation just to safely land those falls. No joke!
