<DIV>Hi guys, I played a cleric in EQ1 for a very long time in a raiding guild. I'm playing EQ2 now started a Templar, and I have a LOT of newbie questions. If anyone has the time to comment on any of these questions I would be very grateful.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>- I bought EOF Online. I can only see the one set of AA abilities. As far as DPS and soloing goes, should I get the ROF expansion for the first set of AAs? Does it make that much of a difference? I can't even read what the ROF AAs do right now. All I have now are the AAs that make smite and the other nuke faster to cast/recast.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>- I have an abilitiy that gates me back to Qeynos, and I seem to have some sort of "bind affinity" type spell, and I think there was some kind of quest about getting a gate spell. What's the deal with that? Do I get 2 seperate gate spells? How do I get the other one if so?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>- I have heard that there are "armor quests" around level 20. What's the deal with these? I'm level 20 now. Are there places to get these quests in Qeynos as well as Kelethin? Is the armor any good? Can I solo it? Should I bother?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>- Speaking of armor, I heard that there were 3 sets of plate armor for each tier of tradeskill. I have my guy as a level 20 armorer (just finished outfitter) I only noticed one set of plate that I could make. I was in a group and I got some "enigma of the weaponsmith" book that gave me some strange recipes with components I had no idea what they were. So are there 3 sets of plate? What's the story with tier2 and tier3 crafting armor?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>- The grouping action seems to be going on at crushbone at my level (20), but I'm in qeynos. Should I head out there? I am concerned about the gating issue (my call of qeynos or whatever will not be very handy). I am also concerned about citizenship and turning in status. If there are 2 gate spells, I could use my call of qeynos ability to go home and get status, and then "bind" in kelethin for grouping in crushbone.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>- What "hot spots" do i need to check out from 20 to 30? Grouping-wise.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>- I am stuck soloing a lot. Is there any little tricks or tips I can use to maximize my DPS from 20+? Right now I try to fight stuff 1 or 2 levels below me, and one at a time. I just alternate smite and the other nuke and use my HO each time, that's about it. Over and over. I much prefer grouping obviously. But I want to build my gear and AAs toward damage for when I have to solo.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>- Running around anontica sucks, and I am going to have to make the run to Kelethin (and I don't know the way). I need a horse, pronto. What's the best way to get a horse? Should I buy the lowest level horse or hold out for a better one? Is the price for a horse money+status? Or is it money OR status? (is it 50gold+100,000 status or is it 50gold *OR* 100,000 status?) So what would you do if you were in my shoes as far as needing a horse?</DIV>

1. The other AAs belong to the Kingdom of Sky expansion (Not sure where you got ROF from honestly, bu tah well). You can spent 50 points in both "trees", and there are some very nice abilities in KoS as well.2. As templars we get Odyssey to gate anyone back to their home city. This spell requires an odyssey stone to do so. Next to that everyone gets a call of , to get back as well. The set bind location spell is your bind affinity one. There are no other "gate home" spells, however, there a couple of spells to gate yourself to other locations.3. Armor Quests for Templars are from some guy in Qeynos Harbor (forgot his name). He's standing at the building opposed to the bank, and has a merchant next to him that will not sell you anything (and I believe he won't buy anything from you either <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />) that's tagged as his assistant. There are 6 armor quests there and they are pretty nice, not all soloable, but a good deal is.4. Not sure about the sets of plate, but I believe that only starts from tier 3 (21 - 30). The enigma books contain "Adornments", which are upgrades to your equipment, basically.5. Try doing your AQs first. At any rate, you cannot bind yourself in Kelethin, only in Qeynos.6. Been too long for me, and it's pretty much server dependant.7. The only thing you can really do is get some good AAs in the point. KoS has some good melee-damage ones, and EoF has some good ones for your smites.8. The price for a horse is money and status, or just money. The last option obviously costs you more money than the first. At any rate, don't expect to ride a horse before level 40 - 50. Use the griffons to get around till then (in the zones that have those, or something similar)

Taking those quests might help you find companions to work on them and make a few friends in the process. The armor itself won't last long as the next 10 levels go by quickly, so it's more of a decision if you want to spend the time earning the quest credits and maybe making a few new friends.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><U><EM>- Speaking of armor, I heard that there were 3 sets of plate armor for each tier of tradeskill.</EM> </U></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The best way to find answers to crafting questions is to ask politely on the chat channel Qeynos_Crafting. Armor and spell upgrades are far more important.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Alternatives: Kill wolves in Antonica for 'blood of the wolf' dropped items. They give you one shot of speed boost for a period of time - 15 or 30 minutes, not sure about that.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Buy Spirit Totem of the Wolf off the broker - 5 uses of increased speed equal to the slower horses.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Make friends with a druid or mystic - they can cast Spirit of the Wolf (SoW) on you for 30 to 45 minutes of greatly increased run speed. Druids (warden or fury) can also port you to Kelethin after you have travelled there once and harvested a certain bush at the druid rings in Greater Fay, Steamfont or Butcherblock.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As far as reaching Kelethin, you get there by taking a boat ride from the docks in Thundering Steppes or Nek forest. If you have 60 silver to spare, you can buy a boat ticket from the Harbormaster in Qeynos Harbor to get you that far. Buy the ticket and then look for the bell that says Voyage by Sea. Otherwise, just run from South Qeynos to the Griffon tower, take it to the Thundering Steppes tower, and run from there to the TS entry and on to the docks. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>All of this would be far easier if you had a guide to show you around the zones for an hour or so. I would say start the armor quests, see if you can meet some friendly souls willing to help you out a bit and ask for an hour of their time. If you happen to be on Antonia Bayle server, send a note to my sig name and I'll be happy to show you around the areas you need to know for now.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> <HR> </DIV></BLOCKQUOTE><BR><p>Message Edited by El Conquistador on <span class=date_text>01-17-2007</span> <span class=time_text>12:08 AM</span>

For a leveling templar newbie, what I would do if starting out is get the smite EoF AAs maxed first. Both smite and the "strike" one, so that they both have faster casting times, AND have faster cooldowns, and perhaps most importantly, both cost 50% less power. Your survivability will go up greatly because of this, since they are really costing very very little to cast then. Then perhaps follow some of the melee DPS builds for templars in the KoS trees.Other advice here is pretty good too. I'd recommend Crushbone Keep in your mid-20s, graduating to the Ruins of Varsoon near 30, or the D'vinn Throne instance in CBK in your 30s too. Runnyeye comes quite quickly (especially for healers) in your 30s as well.

Odyssey is another "call" spell which can also be cast upon others. You can pick up the necessary components at any alchemist in Qeynos. Just look for Odyssey stones.</P></BLOCKQUOTE> <P><STRONG><EM>I have heard that there are "armor quests" around level 20. Personally, I'd recommend skipping them for the time being, and concentrating on lower level armor quests and drops in Faydwer (around Kelethin). In particular, try the Dwarven Ringmail Heritage Quest. </P></BLOCKQUOTE> <P><STRONG><EM>Speaking of armor, I heard that there were 3 sets of plate armor for each tier of tradeskill. I'd move out that way if I were you. If you need to get back to town, Kelethin's not far to run, and at your level, it's not that dangerous a trip at all. If you're really worried about your Call spell bringing you all the way back to Qeynos, you're able to betray to Kelethin as an option, but really...it's not that far a jaunt from Crushbone at all. </P> <P>You can't really "bind" to Kelethin anyway. Your "bind" spell would only be good within the borders of your home city (in this case, Qeynos), so don't worry too much about that. </P></BLOCKQUOTE> <P><STRONG><EM>What "hot spots" do i need to check out from 20 to 30? The latest participant in the "experiement" is one of my own guildmates actually, who wanted to see if following my advice would make a difference for his lower level Templar "alt", and he's having a great time. You'll find them relatively cheaply on the brokers, and you'll run plenty fast for your level and range. </P> <P>As far as how to get to Faydwer? Ask a wizard or warlock nicely. Most wizards and warlocks have access to a teleportation spell which will take you directly to the spires in Faydwer. From there, just follow the road north and west to get to the tree city of Kelethin. (Since the teleportation spell costs components which the sorcerors have to pay for, it wouldn't hurt to offer a small donation of perhaps a gold or so.)</P> <P> </P> <P> </P></BLOCKQUOTE><p>Message Edited by Kendricke on <span class=date_text>01-17-2007</span> <span class=time_text>08:30 AM</span>

Others would suggest devout because it adds strength and provides a slight increase in autoattack damage.<BR></P>
