Hello everyone! I have a theory:Is it possible with aa system and the soon to be extended system of EoF to create a battle priest from a templar?I havn't gone through the aa system yet, but int does increase spell damage crit and speed right? Therefore, if a templar wears cloth armor (hardcore int and wis mostly) and aa's down intelligence line and wisdom line, they will be able to scroll(low recharge rate) low costing damage spells onto someone very fast and in turn doing a good amount of damage with high intelligence? Also, they will be able to heal very well and absorb damage up to 50%?When I turn 70 I am going to try it and clock my dps and overall damage. Might be useful =D

I think instead of boosting your spell casting, you should look at a good weapon instead. With some of the other lines you can get 100% melee crit, and what 60% DPS mod? Coupled with Yaulp and haste items, that means you can deal autoattack damage for no loss in power and still have something left over to heal or cast with.

Yaulp does drain your power over time.

The main reason why I created a Templar after EQ2 game out was to be a battle priest, and it has irked me since launch that I might as well not even bother. So personally I would like to increase my DPS further. Or maybe the ability to use a kite shield for crying out loud. We wear plate armor and use a dinner plate for a shield....I've rarely ever had any problem healing, so while I'm not overly concerned about healing AAs in general, I think it should be a good mix of increased DPS and increased Healing would be in order. Not just so the poster above won't delete the toon, but to be fair. If people want DPS, DPS should be an option, if they want Healing, Healing should be an option.Fixing the vitaes so that my current level adept 3 is better(not just better but decently better...) than my grey master II vitaes might help healing too, and that wouldn't even require AAs....

For the most part I love playing a healer. I played a cleric in EQ1 starting in beta, and I've played a templar all through EQ2. I don't need to be a battle cleric, by my god, can we at least get a LITTLE DPS? All my friends will go work on solo writs when there's nothing else going on. Me? I have a fraction of the status that all my friends have because they can all finish 5-6 solo writs in the time it takes me to do 1. That's just pitiful. I've taken to playing a bruiser alt just so that I can do things solo when I feel like it, but not spend 10 minutes trying to kill a single mob.

If ya wanna become a more battle oriented templar then focus on getting some good weapon, and get AA in 4-4-8 in STA and AGI. That gives ya 100% melee crit and lot more % DPS. Using yaulp with that gives + to haste and melee DPS as well. With the Blackscale maul I easily crit for 1400 or more with some doubleswings now and then and I still can heal well and cast some attack/debuffs spells between swings. This is nice in a group situation and if its get hard just drop yaulp to conserve power and perhaps switch to Godking weapon to get more power.

When soloing Blacksale Maul might not be the optimal 2H since mobs can parry it so its lower attack speed is noticable so I use another 2H that crit for about 700 but swings twice as fast. I also equip Gauntlets of Speed so I get about 20% more haste as well.

Getting another 4-4-8 in STR increases your damage and gives ya Bolt of Power that interutps and deal some damage as well and that one proc alot too and ya can always use a 1H and a shield with skullcrush and the previous AA to go defensive if needed.

There are some Round Shields that templars can use that gives ya about 660 in migitation compared to bucklers ca 400, but the AGI AA shield bash is usable when soloing to temporaily stun adds or stun another mob in encounter.

This combined with stun and daze spells makes ya a fairly good battle cleric but I am no dps machine, but I can slay the unfaithful and keep my group and myself alive at least.

Constructive Thoughts.... Here ya go. 3 Things if ya want to increase your DPS, and also Solo effectively as a templar...A) 100 % crit.. Get a good 2 hander. A couple are in PoA. The best is the vraksakin Club, you can easily hit 700 DPS with your eyes closed.B) Stock on Totem of the beholder and Totem of the cobra's...Yes, these lil trinkets cut your healing in half for most solo writ mobs.. 16 seconds bewtween is 4 ticks is 500 health, and 320 Mana...So, what ya loose for having yalup out is done... Minimal cost, our server most of the time is around a gold...C) Get your warring axioum mastered out. With most masters now just being fodder since most on my server are at 70 and nearly fully fabeled as spells and armour its realitively easy to obtain. As far as dropping into cloth, ya the int will be nice.. but I dont think it will be able to get up to DMG of what you can do with 100 % crits on a 2 hander.. Maybe undead.. but I dont see it cruncing the #'s......On a side note.... I would like to see our class get back to more purity of just healing... Did you really think that rolling a healer and having both healing and DPS would be viable? If so, roll a druid....if not go find undead...

I get ridiculed on a regular basis for tossing some love into offense. I don't call myself a "Battle Templar" but I'm glad the options are there. The intelligence line is critical imo. Max out your crit damage spell chance, get your MOA done (another +2% crit chance) and M1 your nukes and DOT. As the others said, work up your line for more melee crits as well. Grab a spirit flailed gorge (I think that's what it's called) and set your auto attack while in combat. I don't think you'll have tons of DPS but I think you'll be surpised what you can pull off.

There are several posts throughout the Templar forum on how you can achieve this (without raid gear even).Basically, the best methods involve melee and melee achievements, which a melee weapon which has a higher than 3:1 maximum to minimum damage ratio (it's one reason the Blackscale Maul is so popular for this). Sure, getting higher spell criticals can be nice, but the increase in DPS isn't nearly the difference you'll see from a full out melee build. I've ran various tests on different builds and gear load outs (again, you can find the posts within this forum) and the melee builds consistently outperform spell casting builds.
Message Edited by Kendricke on 10-23-2006 06:11 AM

I was already going down the Agility line and then going to go down the stamina line before I saw this on the forum, but it did make me think about what order I should be taking the AAs. I was 4-4-4-4 in AGI the other day when a blackscale maul dropped and I was very impressed. I couldn't stand the wait for the melee crit so I respeced to STR 4-4-8 and the improvement to my regular group has been huge. We could already take on crazy amounts of stuff, but I'm having a lot more fun then I have been the past couple years that is for sure. When i get to 4-4-8 in the Agility line I know it is going to be way better.

I used to have 4488 down the STA and INT lines but I've always been partial to the battle priest role. I was not pleased with the spell haste or spell crit increase. From much advice on these forums, it's better to save your power for heals and do more damage for free just by swinging a good two-handed. I now have 4488 down the STR and STA lines. This gives me a 40% chance of Bolt of Power proc (109-182 divine dmg), 15.6% heal crit and 100% melee crit. I've never parsed it but I feel Bolt of Power does more damage in the end versus the % auto-attack increase down the STA line, plus it interrupts your target. You also can't beat Skull Crack which is a great debuff and can be used against epic targets when I usually have my one-handed equipped anyway. Combine this with M2 Mark of the Celestial and M1 Spurn and soloing and completing writs is much more enjoyable. I once got a double hit of 2471 with my Blackscale Maul. It's currently my highest hit.

Don't get me wrong. I'm a healer and a healer first and foremost. However, I do thoroughly enjoy swinging my big hammer and dealing out divine judgement. It's why I chose my Templar from the beginning. The WIS line still looks like so much fun. Hmm, tempting but too situational.

Message Edited by Athellias on 10-29-2006 06:32 PM
