As a templar, what should I focus on? I am just starting a new templar, and was wondering do I mostly concentrate on Wis? Should I worry about armor with high mit? I have only played a conjuror and wizard to decent levels, so I need some advice. I want to mostly group, but be able to solo when I want.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hrmm, if you are startig from level 1 and havent invested time in an existing char.....roll a shaman or druid as both heal better and have many more options than a temp. I wouldnt advise playing a templar as things are now unless you have a very high boredom threshold.

No, a templar is a good choice it just takes a bit of getting used to as yo have to 'see 30s ahead' in combat... at the start you'll have low power and expensive heals... concentrate on this as much as possble... going Str/Wis/mit might be easier in the beginning as you don't need power to hit things over the head... but as you progress up, or you start grouping regually you won't need to concentrate on mit so much so you can really increase your power pool size in expense of your other statistics.... power is indeed everything

Message Edited by boli on 09-29-2006 11:10 AM

Nope - i love playing my Templar (now 69) although there have been a couple of sticky patches along the way i must admit.

I love being able to stand next to the tank in a group mashing the mobs with my mace cos i have high Plate mitigation, health, and resists - unlike the poor cloth and leather wearers who cant take a hit

Sure our dps is awful - but adequate if you keep your spells and gear updated - and dont expect to solo heroics and multi mobs - or at least too often !

I love being the only healer in a group going thru POA, Nest, Den, HoF, SS etc - and knowing its ME keeping em from wiping

I've played in groups/raids with other healers, even poorly equiped other templars, and occasionally been the ONLY healer left standing at the end - now that is a cool feeling

On our raids i am up there at or near the top of the healing tree - yes healers with wards can heal more but i am never that far behind - and i use debuffs regularly inbetween heals.

like any class we have our drawbacks - but we also have our strenghts. And good gear and spells are a must.

PS wisdom is of course your main stat - you will find that strenght will be quite high cos most of the plate armour comes with it.

Int comes next as this increases your spell damage etc, followed by stamina, with any agility a bonus.

This is all subject to what type of templar you want to play of course....

Dont forget your group/friend buffs are very important as well as your mob debuffs.

Reactive heals are your friend so make sure these are upgraded.

Dont forget an INT hex doll - it has a magic debuff hex which can be quite useful at times.

Its been proven too many times to count that druids and shamans do not outheal clerics on the whole ( not going to get into all the variables involved )

If you want to solo sure a druid can do it possibly quicker than a templar given no twinking but rest assured you will outheal both of the classes if you want to excluding certain uncommon AoE mobs. Shaman without alot of AA's solo slower than even templars druids do more dps again excluding twinkdom and AA's. So its up to you really. All classes heal well and can keep up a group without much issues its more of a flavour issue really. Play what you want to play and have fun as you will be able to do whatever role you want.

If I was going to solo alot Id focus on Mit / Wis and Int/Str. ( int is harder with plate ) even fully fabled Im only sitting at about ~230 int. anywas mit so you can take the hits and wisdom for power pool and resists. Int for more damage on the nukes. Also upgrade your spells helps a tonne even before I was fabled out I could solo the arcid mother in Bone Mire so yes its very possible to solo as Templar just slow for my tastes compared to ooooh a bruiser and Illusionist Coecer Conjurer Wizard Monk SK Paladin Gaurdian My mother Frank the Paper guy etc. =D

Gemmas 70 templar Exalted

Message Edited by Whitemane on 09-29-2006 12:53 PM

Thanks for all the good advice. This is going to be a twink I already have a great solo character with the conjuror, so now I want something for mostly groups.
