<DIV>Hello all!,</DIV> <DIV> I'm a returning EQ2 player (played at launch and a little over the summer) and I've got a decision to make and I'd like a little input from the board go'ers! In groups I like to heal! I like the idea of playing a 'critical' support role and not being limited to just DPS. So obviously I choose priest.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> Here's where I'm stumped. I can't decide between Templar or Fury! Going off the general mood in forums it seems as though Templar's and Fury's heal about equally well but Fury's have much greater offensive abilities.... I'll stop blabbering I'm not telling you guys anything you don't know already.....</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> Here's my question. If you had to go back and decide again, would you choose Templar again?</DIV>

<DIV>I was asked this quite a bit this time last year as well. Though my guild was one of the lucky few to be invited to the Beta test pretty much whole, there were still members who weren't in the Beta, and new applicants just trying to figure out the ropes. The questions I'm about to ask you now are the same questions I asked back then. These questions are just as relevant as they were at the beginning of the game, in my opinion.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1 - Do you spend most of your time soloing? If so, you may find the Templar class to be a bit less exciting.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2 - Do you spend most of your time grouping? If so, you may find either class enjoyable.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3 - Do you expect to spend most of your time pushing the limits of your group? If so, you may find Templar to be more capable.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>In many ways, Furies are the "Scouts" of the Priest class. They mimic many Scout abilities, with spells that increase running speed, eventually cloak your group in invisibility, and perform more damage overall. They do very well in soloing situations, and are capable in most grouping situations.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>On the other hand, Templars are still the best healers around for most situations. In many ways we're the "Enchanters" of the Priest class. We have some spells which mimic some of the controlling aspects of Enchanters, with the ability to reduce aggession on hostile encounters, to lock down or interrupt additional targets, and a general leaning toward a complete support role. We do very well in most grouping situations, but truly we shine in hard and fast full groups, with multiple pulls and larger encounters. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now, all that said, there's a lot of opinions on this forum, and at the end of the day the only one that's going to matter is yours. Ask yourself what type of gaming you enjoy more, and try to build your fun from that situation first and foremost.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

Make a fury. You'll be happier, better healer and will provide better utility for groups in the long run. <div></div>
<P>Kendrickes is a fair summary. I would note that the number of situations where you can get a group running hard and fast are minimal but it is a lot of fun when it happens.</P> <P>As Templars are the Enchanters of the healing world, I would also recommend you take a look at the Enchanter boards and gauge how they feel about a support role in this game before you make your decision <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P>
Furies don't look as cool because they can't wear plate. *sees everyone glaring* What!? Don't tell me you weren't thinking it! <div></div>

<DIV>Ya Kendricke's reply pretty much hit the nail on the head.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If you expect to solo with efficiency, Templar ain't it.</DIV>

<DIV><STRONG>1 - Do you spend most of your time soloing?<BR></STRONG> Ideally, no. I prefer to group though I play just <STRONG>after</STRONG> prime time. Going off my memory getting groups was difficult occasionally. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG>2 - Do you spend most of your time grouping?</STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG> </STRONG>Yes, see answer above.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG>3 - Do you expect to spend most of your time pushing the limits of your group? <BR></STRONG> I wouldn't classify myself as a hardcore player, I just don't have the time. Though let me ask you this. Are casual groups easy to find later in the game?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG>"In many ways we're the "Enchanters" of the Priest class</STRONG>"</DIV> <DIV> Do you find yourself often in the "complete support role"? Or are you commonly healing most of the time?</DIV>

<P> Much of the content is now solo / small group oriented.</P> <P>Furies are much much better for this, and suffer no disadvantage in larger groups. So, that would be my choice.</P> <P> </P>

In smaller groups, I use my controlling spells frequently (see my and other Templar's posts in "<A href="http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=13&message.id=16931" target=_blank>The Controlling Templar</A>" for a better explanation). In larger groups, I often push for more and faster...often necessitating the use of such spells. </P> <P>In groups where I'm one of two or more healers, I often take on the role of puller, since our Sign line seems custom built for the purpose. Even in smaller groups, I frequently find myself wanting to handle pulling AND healing as a way to push my own limits.</P> <P>Hardcore groups can happen anywhere. It doesn't require hours of time and resources. It does require effort and skill. I don't consider myself a hardcore player. I do consider myself skilled and willing to try just about any tactic (at least once) to improve my own performance.</P> <P> </P>

Many times, she requested that I slow pulls, give her time to rest, and to assist in healing because she was blowing through power trying to keep the group standing. On one of the three occasions she required an AFK, I both pulled AND healed the group without any assistance from her. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now, you may see that as a biased opinion...and I'll even agree. However, my opinion is just as valid as your quoted opinions above are. In my personal experience, Templars simply outperform Furies in faster paced groups where healing is much more of a factor. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

After a 2 month break (been playing a necro alt up to 60), I have logged my templar 57. 30mins were enough to disgust me to the highest point. Man, If you plan soloing, let's say even 2% of your playtime, I swear it, for your sake, DO NOT roll a Templar. Amen. <div></div>
