View Full Version : Anything changed with Templars in the last year?

Hey guys, just got back to EQ2 after about an 11 month break. In the first month about, I got a templar to 34. At that time, everything pretty much sucked for Templars, not the best healer or even needed really at all.

My question is just has anything changed? Am I better off making a new character, or how is the templar path going?

I also read something about WIS not being as important for Templars any more. What is that about, I'd appreciate any info!

Thanks

Decius of Mistmoore

You may want to look at a some of the threads below - or maybe not. Even the locked ones have good content, but be ready to read a while. Enjoy your stay - I hear thet call this place the Viper's Nest now, though I dunno why....

Welcome back btw.

Lates

Yea I was reading a few of them, and in doing that is where I read something about WIS not being that important anymore and I wanted to clarify that REALLY fast hehe. Is that true? Is there other stat gear thats better now?

And yes, from reading these other threads, it sounds like mostly I SHOUL start over :/

OK, here is my brief synopsis (I am sure people will be more than happy to correct me now that someone is willing to say something.) Basically, we were incredibly powerful until September. Our class probably had the fewest amount of bugs/design flaws of all the subclasses in the game. After the combat update, a few things changed: 1. We do not heal for nearly as much as we used to. 2. Some of our utility spells have been reworked (some will say for the better, others will argue that the utility spells are even more useless than before.) 3. The other priests are able to heal as well as we do now. 4. Heroic and Epic targets have had their hitpoints/mitigation and resistances increased over the year. (These targets don't have quite as many hitpoints as they did in September.) 5. Yet we don't do any more damage than we did before. A number of people are unhappy about this. Some people try to downplay the complaints of others and lots of flamewars erupt over this. That is why no one really wanted to answer you immediately. The long and short of it is that some people (myself included) feel that the class is no longer as fun to play. Fighting a creature of any sort of difficulty takes noticably longer than any other class (another priest class included.) My best advice to you (which you can discount because I am "only" 41, but I was 34 when these changes hit, so I am pretty familiar with what your life is going to be like) would be to play for a week and form your own opinions about it. During this week upgrade your spells and gear. The best thing that you can do right now is to find some friends that you really enjoy playing with and this will make any changes the devs make completely immaterial.

My opinion only, save yourself the week, and if you really want to play a healer play a (cough cough) Fury

Play what is fun with your friends. If Templar works for that, then great. If not, go elsewhere. Too many folks will try to sway you one way or the other. One crowd will tell you Templar is broken and another crowd will tell you that Templar is still great. Otherws will tell you that Fury is best...or Conjuror...or Bruiser...

At the end of the day, don't play a class because it's popular. Play it because it fits your playstyle.

It is gonna give you your mana aye? And it bumps resists too, so we tend to have good mits against standard spell damages, non-standard being those epic types that seem to bypass mitigation in all its forms nowadays. They have a whole new line of armour out in DoF, good pieces, and the player made is good utility until you can land some. Equipping something pearl in your right slots would be good when you can, and this includes your ranged. All of these things will bump your overall mana and resists, and a bit of hp too. In the end, you still are not gonna take a shot worth a [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn], considering what you are wearing, sorry to say. Your dps will be low, and your contribution to group in any form other than base buffs and healing is gonna be minimal. Your healing will still be good, even with lotto(proc) heals, but it isnt like the old days.

Templar IS a class. You can heal and buff a bit, but dont think for a second that it is like it was before you left. Your ability is very gear dependent now. Soloing can be a pain in the [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn], mainly because of the time involved due to interrupts and the aforementioned armour issues. Against anything worth the time, you are gonna have a wee bit more healing to do, your avoidance just isnt up to snuff, and you have no parry. Anyways, look at the bright side:

There are many classes to play. And you dont have to base your opinion on anything but how much that money you spend monthly means to you. Aye?

Good luck in whatever you play. Curiousity has always been a sign of good intel in my small book. I have the feeling you will play well whatever class you play boyo, no matter its drawbacks.

Lates.

Thanks very much for the input guys, over the passed few days I have noticed a lot of this. I appreciate the feedback from both sides of the fence.
