View Full Version : Disgusted Templar Here - Another Templar's Farewell
Hi All: I had to log in for another purpose so I decided to put in my 2cents here: Prior to CU #13 I loved this game and my character Obokia and played it a lot. I even upgraded my video card, memory, and sound card so I could enjoy it to the max. While I used to be a hard-core gamer, I no longer fit that description. In EQII I have been a casual sort of player, playing 2-4 hours almost every day -- because I was not able to commit long blocks of uninterrupted time to playing, I usually could not commit to being in a group and thus I had to solo a lot. I have not played since CU #13 went in. I have continued to read all the posts here, but I am so disgusted with what Sony did to us Templars that I have not been able to bring myself to play. From reading about the changes, I fully understand how they impact us and their effect on a Templar's ability to play and enjoy the game and on our "value" to a group. Why Sony did what it did to us I can not understand. I believe it was grossly unfair and pointless. I will be cancelling my subscription soon. I am only LVL 38 and my stuff sux so don't bother to ask for it. Don't even know why I posted this other than to vent a bit. Goodbye to what I believe to be one of the best online gaming communities. No, not at you, but at this situation we are in.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It is past time now, SoE at least posted on our concerns, something, somewhere, on some thread. <P>I think you have to assume that the answer is "working as intended" if they don't say 'anything'</P> <P>My level 32 Templar is shelved, unless someone begs, and says they understand I am not the same as before LU#13 nuke.</P> <P>My level 25 Fury is rocking solid though.</P> <P>This is my first (and last) MMORPG, I will never let someone else have total control of my game. (For instance, I can plug my Warcraft 2 CD in today and be rocking the same as before. I will never get prio to LU#13 back, ever)</P> <P>I played paper and dice Dungeons and Dragons for over 20 years, and so i thought only in terms of Role Playing. I chose a Templar to be a 'pure' healer, my main is a Paladin because of the whole Holy Warrior scenario (didn't realize i was getting a gimped fighter crossed with a gimped healer Oh well so it goes). I didn't choose Fury etc because I thought of them as kind of being fruity. Now I don't have any idea why anyone would choose Templar. Fury has much better dps, and utility. That SoW is just priceless, and the group invis later, etc.</P> <P> </P>

<div></div>Is there some place where we can suggest that the forums have an ignore poster option? I can't seem to find the appropriate place to make that suggestion. I used that a lot for one of the games I used to play to avoid trolls and flame baiters, but it's a rare option on most gaming forums unfortunately. Forgive the interruption ... just another former templar unhappy with some of the changes ... though I am having fun with my new main (not a healer). <div></div><p>Message Edited by Meribor on <span class=date_text>11-11-2005</span> <span class=time_text>11:47 AM</span>

<DIV>Only time I log my Templar in is when I have a group set up and ready to go when I get in. Otherwise, I play my Wizard now. Why? Because my Wizard is much more fun to take out and solo with while I'm looking for a group or harvesting. Having my played my Wizard a bit now, I can't stand to go back to soloing with my Templar. It's just not fun to have to spend so much time killing an encounter off to harvest a node or whatever.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

What differences do you see for yourself? </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>For me before:</DIV> <DIV>It was very slow for me to kill anything solo. </DIV> <DIV>It was the same level of difficulty to kill a blue solo as it was to kill an orange solo mob.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>After LU13:</DIV> <DIV>It is still slow to kill anything. -no change </DIV> <DIV>It is a lot easier to kill a blue solo then a yellow solo mob. -change (now con actually means something)</DIV> <DIV>If I solo a yellow it's a hard (and long) fight. -changed</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I solo rarely and if I do it's for a quest. The reason is because it is very long and boring to chain my Heroic's over and over until the mob is dead. It was always this way even before LU13. The biggest difference soloing is with fighting a yellow or higher mob. Orange solo's are probably going to wipe me to the floor so I don't even bother with them.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As for groups, I can heal just fine. Even in my low 50s before getting new heals (like M2 Grand Intercession) I could keep my group alive. Sure it can be a challenge if a lot of adds jump in, but I can do it as the solo healer in the group. I can also be the solo healer of the group against named yellow mobs.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>You say you can't understand what Sony did to us. What did they do to us? Did they make us worse or are all these complaints on what they did to the other classes and not to what they did to our class?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I will not complain if they give us extra dps over what we have, but that is not something they took away from us. We never had dps. I do not believe they took away our ability to heal a group. We still do this very well. They did not take away our ability to solo. We can still do this (although it was and still is long and boring for me to do so).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>We still have the best hit point buffs in game both group and single target. I think we have a unique set of heal proc debuffs we can cast on a mob. I don't think there are any other classes that have this extra healing power. Maybe at 38 you don't see this as much, but it is unique.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I still group with the same people I started this game with and we really don't see much of a difference in the combat before and after LU13. Maybe the first week I changed my combat strategies, but after that things settled down. We are off exploring the new zones and working on new quests. Maybe we are off in our own little world, but it's still the same eq2 to me. I don't understand what you believe to be the grossly unfair and pointless changes made with LU13.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Maybe this isn't want you were hoping for in a response, but I suggest actually trying to play after the changes and forget about all the posts made. If you can't commit to a group maybe harvest between soloing to get rares for upgrades to your nukes so you can kill stuff faster. Try to ignore what others can do and focus on what you can do.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Maybe you wont even read this if you already canceled your account, but if do just don't give into all the hype that Templar's suck. They don't. They are very much the class they always were. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Good luck in what ever you decide. </DIV>

<P>Since the revamp I play my 56 Templar only when my guild is actively looking for a healer or i need to harvest lots of rares which leads me to why do I need to harvest rares?</P> <P>Because Twinking a new Fury and a new Warlock (2 classes that kill very well compared to a Templar) is expensive. Lots of fun for my new alts though.</P>

I killed thousands of those wolves (hundreds of writs) - got me a title even, and well toward my second title. For a while I was 3rd highest contributor in our level 30 guild (since DoF I haven't done many writs and now I'm 6th higest).</P> <P>It took me 1 dot and 2 heroic opportunities to kill the wolf. Killed lots of them and it was always the same spell combo. Maybe I would get interrupted once or twice. All in all, cast 5 spells (maybe 7 casts to account for interruptions).</P> <P>Then DoF came out. I was still level 50, had the same nukes (master1 all) and the wolves were the same level too.</P> <P>First day of DoF, I only had an hour to play, so I logged in, adjusted my hotkey bars, grabbed a writ, and headed to Everfrost. Found me a wolf, and attacked. </P> <P>Now it took me 1 dot, 3 heroic opportunities, and a final nuke to kill the wolf. Tried it over and over (23 wolves to finish the writ) and the results were the same. That's casting 8 spells. And, what's worse, is now I get interrupted at least half the time, usually more. Say on average, against those wolves, 5 interrupts. That's a total of 13 spells cast where as before DoF/CU it took about 7 casts. Nearly doubled the time it took to kill each wolf.</P> <P>Double the time to finish the writ too (took about 40-45 minutes average before the combat changes, about an hour and 15 minutes up to an hour and a half after the changes. </P> <P>I guess the silver lining is I don't need Odyssey Stones now because the writs take longer than the recast on my Call of Qeynos... Oh, wait, that's my one and only useful utility spell that I used to use often and now I never use anymore... /sigh.</P> <P>In any case, there was a significant decrease in soloing ability. Maybe every class experienced this. Maybe every class takes 2x longer to kill mobs solo than they did prior to the changes. But there was a decrease.</P>

In fact, I think guards and inquisitors are the only classes whose soloing time got longer. We did get more dps, but the game mechanics caused soloing time to be longer. This is due interrupts and added hp.</P> <P> </P> <P>And I did notice the exactly same thing. It used to take me 1 DoT and 2 HO's to kill those wolves and after LU13, it takes 2 DoT's and 3 HO's.</P> <P> </P> <P>I have a monk, I didn't like soloing pre LU13 as my dps was pretty low and I was constantly feigning against yellow solo mobs. After LU13, I was blasting through those same yellow mobs in 15 to 20 seconds and could kill 4 in a row before needing to rest.</P> <P> </P> <P>I did two writs with my templar (then lvl 52) after lu13 and my lvl 49 monk can do 4 writs in 2/3 of that time. Zoning from lava to Everfrost included. And I think my monk is working as intended while the templar is seriously gimped.</P>
