how can u distniguish between tanking classes

<DIV>for a guardian and paladin, its pretty easy, just ask for the ac and you will get an idea if they have maintained their equipment to be an effective part of the team.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>for zerkers, monk classes etc. how can you determine if they have done the same? These classes have the ability to tank via their own powers but I don't really know how to tell. some times a monk type as the only tank really works well and other times, they are basically a power sponge, drying me up.</DIV>

First off berserkers wear heavy armour the same as guardians, sks, and pallies. Second as a templar you can wear all armour heavy and below, so for brawler types just look at how the armour that they are wearing cons to you.
