View Full Version : Lets talk armor
<DIV>Ok, Im a 16 cleric right now, wearing armor mostly lite armor from quests. I know I could buy better lite armor but Im going to skip that and go right to heavy at Templar. Now here is my question. When starting to buy the heavy armor, is it best to buy from NPC vendors, crafters, or just wait for quest rewards. I just dont want to waste cash on say NPC armor if there is better right under my nose. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Any suggestions are helpful!</DIV>

<DIV>IMO:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If you're in a guild, buy from your guild's crafter @ cost.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If you're not a in guild, save your money. Wait for free armor from quests and drops.</DIV>
<DIV> Go ahead and buy it, 20+ you make so much money it barely even fazes you to buy full Vanguard. You won't be able to use the drops until mid 20s for most plate and do you really want to wait that long to have that giant leap in your AC? I definitely did not. </DIV>
<DIV>Thanks for the suggestions, sounds wise.</DIV>

<DIV><FONT color=#cc99cc>JFiz,</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#cc99cc></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#cc99cc>My best recommendation is to do the quest armor quests. They are very nice rewards for your level (you can start wearing them right around - some plate requires you to be 25+), and they aren't too difficult. I will say *SPOILER* - that the Archeologist Quested glvoes you receive in Stormhold are better than the actually quested gloves - which are the third tier quest armor. The funny thing about it is your third tier armor is completed by killing monsters in Stormhold.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#cc99cc></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#cc99cc>Ironically enough.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#cc99cc><STRONG>Kylie</STRONG></FONT></DIV>

<DIV>I woulad advise not spending anything on armor. At 20 you begin your armor quests and that will coincide with your switch to heavy armor. If you get any heavy armor drops you can save those and use them at 20 until you get the quest replacements but don't spend a copper because it won't make enough of a difference.</DIV>
<DIV>As a halfling will I have strength/weight issues wearing plate?</DIV>

Nope , your strength wont come into play when switching to the heavy armor. I played up until early 30's in beta and was wearing full Carbonite at 20 and started getting some of the quest pieces. I had no problem equipping it.As for spending money on armor.. I agree with this idea at 20 if you want to from friends who are crafters or guildies at cost.. but dont spend alot on it for various reasons... You can start your questing for armor at 20. The armor is better stats than Carbonite and Vanguard. Hold out if you can but if you have the extra money dont stress it and go ahead and spend it on a full set.

Don't suppose anyone has any screenshots of the different armor choices? I've heard folks mention Carbonite, Vanguard, and Quested...do these look different?

<DIV>I got a full suit, minus bracer, of carbonite from the Firemyst instanced zone. <DIV>What are these armor quests you can start doing at 20? Where are they initiated?</DIV>

<DIV>They start In Qeynos Harbor. Talk to a guy named Ian. Easy quests so far, ya just have to find peeps willing to kill [Removed for Content] mobs as most of em are green. Ive been making groups with peeps in their high teens that dont seem to mind. The third part takes you into Stormhold so it might be a little more interesting, as i havent done that part yet. But you get a really nice set of gloves and a bracer for the first two quests and its heavy armor. Dont waste your money on buying armor thats for sure. Why do we need it anyway especially when it has no stats. These Ian quests are really worhtwhile so far and the stats are better than anything ive seen for sale or has dropped except for the few named that drop great stuff down deep past the atrium in Stormhold. But again its stuff that fills up the slots you prolly wont get from Ian like necklaces and waist items. Do the Ian quests. Screw buying a set of armor.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Rhoulicas, Dark Elf Templar of Unrest</DIV>

<DIV>In my opinion, waste your money. You'll be happy when you don't die to that undead, gnoll or giant in TS because you managed to catch aggro for a few hits. Find someone with access to Firemyst (non-wind) or complete the access quest yourself. Get two people to join you (3-6 required to zone in) go to the dwarf in the encampment to the left and buy wearable plate at half the cost of what you would find in Qeynos. I can't stress how plate armor is important to both a Templar and any Tank class.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

Personally, I just bought a suit of vanguard in Qeynos Harbor. It wasn't too expensive, bp at 42 silver and other pieces around 35 each, I got everything except helm/bracers at lvl 20. My only reservation is the vanguard helm, it looks really weird - wondering if the carbonite plate helm instead is worth it for looks. But would this helm look weird with vnaguard plate, or what? Guess I'll try, only 20 silver to go <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />Btw, just getting this suit of plate raised my ac WAY up, it is definitely a worthwhile investment. Buy your plate or quest it (or first buy it, then quest the better stuff at your leisure and without rushing it a few levels later, once you've gottem some levels/other gear) but have it as soon as possible, it makes your life 10x easier.

<DIV>My Advice is unless you have money to Burn is to not waste your money on armour as it's easy enought to either to a) get quest pieces for what you need and b) I have yet to find anything better than the lvl 20 Quest armour that I can wear at lvl 26.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Also as a cavaet I reccomend that people also do not let thier defense skill fall to far behind. <DIV>Gnoll tormentors have to be spawned. If you go to BB just ne or so of the entrance facing antonica youll find a camp full of saberteeth [Removed for Content]. You have to clear the area around the tent they surround. Eventually a group of tormentors with sabertooth eldar friends will spawn near the tent. Only need 6 right if i remember? Good luck.</DIV> <DIV>Btw ya cant wear your boots till 21, your sleeves till 22, your leggings till 23, and your BP (I heard) till 24. Oh and um DONT WASTE money on PLATEMAIL. <DIV>You need 4 Tormentors for the first armor quest, so you have to complete the cycle twice.</DIV>
<DIV>Cool thanks, thats good to know. I finished the Tormentors last night and now just have a couple of the Knights to go. Thats awsome to know the thing about one peice per lvl so I don't waste time trying to cram it all in right away hehe.</DIV>

Still no screenshots of our class armor? <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> I've seen carbonite now (thanks!) and steel vanguard I believe (shiny silver stuff), but I"m not sure if our class armor looks like the vanguard or something else.

I have most of the peices of this armor, and I bought a plate chest peice that looks the same as the final bit; it looks like steel plate. Its kinda gold in colour, with chain silver bum. Its very nice I think. My toon look sexy, and professional. I show up and people just give me respect! Ho! Even if I am cheesing it right now <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />I am on part 6 of the quest, and its in TS as well. The last part of it looks like I have to kill a high level named mob. Ouch! Won't spoil it for you.BTW, if you're looking for settlers, they are in the dead river bed near the docks. They spawn slowly, and there is not enough of them, but that was the only place I could find them. You can solo them easily at level 22.The funny thing is, you can't wear the pants til 23, the arms til 22. The chest peice is level 24. But just DOING the quest should take you to at least level 23 from level 20 I think <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<DIV>The armor looks much like platemail armor... with a slightly darker colour. I am a little bit disappointed with it (I have a full suit) but my friends say it seems to shine more than other armor pieces. So I guess I'll settle with it for now, at least it matches!<BR><BR>Alexius</DIV> <DIV>24 Templar, Antonia Bayle</DIV>
<DIV>Im trying to do part 2 and the spiders in BB are camped like 24/7. Driving me nuts :</DIV>
Usually if there's room in a group, they'll let you join if you just need a quest drop. I've never had any problems.

<DIV>I think now adays there are a lot more people doing these quests. Last night there were 3 spider groups running around like crazy in the spider rooms in each BB instance! That is like 12 spider groups. My server is just so packed <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

I'm on part 5 right now and it hasn't been bad at all. It took me about an hour to complete with 3 other people, as opposed to AQ4 which took 4+ hours killing those **ZOMG** bettles. Did you know that killing beetles spawns corpses & bats? I didn't till we tried it and it turned out to be true. How is part 6? Other than the named, one of which (giant) I've already killed in exp groups and he wasn't too bad, is the quest a pain to do?
Ian Cathlan in Qeynos Harbor starts the quest.
