It is determined by the number of corpses near you; the range is fairly large so you may get corpses from other rooms depending on what zone you are in.Corpses include: dead mobs dead players very recently dead player or npc dumbfire pets (time undead tide to cast 0.5s after an aoe kills all the raid's swarm pets)<div></div>

<DIV>You get 3 pets no matter what, and an extra one (to a max of 12 or something) for every nearby corpse.</DIV>

I may be wrong but I was sure it was 4 pets default at one time. I know its only three now though.<div></div>

another question about UT the tide last for 45 (maybe 1min dont remember) but in group encounter once the mob is dead they just stand dumb instead of engaging something else. is it normal? i d rather have them despawn to save some lag rather than feeling like a special VIP with 9 skelly be my personnal bodyguards.
They will attack anything of the same encounter i believe if it AE's but otherwise yeah you end up with an undead entourage.

thanks for the info i might have been bugged cause after killing 1 mob of a 5 mobs encounter they just came back to make me look [Removed for Content] instead of AEing the rest of the encounter

Like a lot of swarm pets, they get a little buggy. They are intended to all go to your target and the mage pets AE. However, if you're fighting a group encounter, you may seem them split up for no apparent reason. Once the target that you cast UT upon is dead, though, they ALL stop, regardless of whether or not they split off.

Sometimes they get bugged and return to you but that has been a pretty rare occurrence for me.</div>

<DIV>Yeah, unlike the other dumbfire pets, Undead Tide seems to last until the whole encounter is dead, not just the enemy you cast it on. After that encounter dies, though, they'll just follow you and not attack again.</DIV>
